He had a bunch of "tirailleurs sénégalais" in his platoon. According to him, they were awsome, brave and courageous fighters with no fear of death. When I was in the military I met some soldiers from Senegal : outstanding and very professional guys ! Even if their military parade looks funky, I have much respect for them !

Due to poor infrastructure and dense/unfavourable terrain, african countries know that all out war in Africa is logistically draining and unfavourable, especially for nations that rely on advanced equipment like the US. So a lot of emphasis is actually placed into personal survival and fieldcraft to improve the infantry soldier's effectiveness in the brutal conditions of the African wilderness and even the odds since all the big toys (BMPs, Strykers, Helicopters, Air support) cannot operate effectively due to poor supply lines. That's why these Senegalese special forces have a lot of survival equipment. They know the terrain is dangerous enough to kill any invader so they prioritise survival.
Lots of negative criticism towards these brave soldiers... They only have this moment of spectacle to let off steam with friends...they don't do that in front of the president, much less when they go on a mission... They have participated in many missions around the world, and they are experienced... É muito bonito e chama a atenção assim em apresentações, mas em combate com outras forças especiais ou grupos terroristas, rebeldes ou exercitos inimigos é outra conversa, outra coisa bem interssante sao esses equipamentos que estão usando, cheios de cores chamativas, em uma patrulha de combate seriam avistados a quilômetros, os oponentes nao teriam dificuldades nenhuma de identificá-los e elimina-los a distância sem muito esforço... 🇧🇷
