SO, I’m a veteran homeschool mom. I have two older children and one a younger child (our surprise baby that arrived a few weeks after our 20th anniversary). I’ve homeschooled from the beginning since my oldest started school (she’s now graduated). As I’m going back through elementary school with my youngest I have to say that I have gleaned SO much from all your wisdom. I’m a subscriber and I have been for a long while now. I truly do appreciate your time and effort. My only regret is that I didn’t have you to help me out in the beginning, lol! Thank you so much. Keep talking. Keep recording. Your channel and blog are the most valuable resources I have in my homeschool arsenal.
What you said about learning history sequentially (or not) just blew my mind. THIS is what has been keeping me from behind “able” to just read about history!!!!!! Because I don’t know all the things in order, or how to tie in Biblical history with Ancient history like Mystery of History does for example!!!! I could make a time line, add to it as we go, wherever we go in the books, and call it done turkey!! And done well!!!! Bless you!!!
I think we sometimes over complicate and then feel defeated before we begin. God created our minds to be able to take disjointed information, analyze it, and put it together in sequential order. In fact, this entire process is part of the learning process, and trains children how to deal with information.
Wow! That's a lot of great resources, Sherry! You make homeschooling so "doable" for any mama, in any circumstances, anywhere. Thank you so much for your neverending devotion to helping mamas everywhere know that they can do it, and even enjoy it.
I found the ABCs of Nature at Half Price Books this week - you weren't kidding! This book is AMAZING! My nine-year-old has already spent hours with it and we've only had it for three days :) Thank you for the recommendation!
I love using public domain books in our school. I am a member of a facebook group called Public Domain Books for Homeschooling that I find a lot of the books. I also use Google Books, Archive.org, and sometimes Gutenberg. I love using these classic books for our homeschool as a spine and branch off of those. My kids love all the readers I've found and all the different types of math books. Best free resources ever. I also get books off of half priced books, thriftbooks.com, and forgotten books if I don't want to bind books myself.
I love the idea that our homeschool year will not be tied to just one period of history. The idea does set us free. I was not looking forward to a whole year of ancient history, but I'm excited about covering parts of ancient history and then moving onto other topics! Great idea, Sherry! We are also looking forward to reading from the Golden Treasury Encyclopedia. Thank you!
Sherry I have found these videos so helpful. We are a new homeschool family living in Hong Kong, where it’s so difficult to get books. With your guidance we now we have free books. Thank you!
This is a wonderful video! I’m such a book lover that I’m ready to make my list and go do some vintage book shopping! I have a very uninterested 8 year old boy who dislikes reading because he has to slow down and focus, which is so hard for him. I do lots of reading to him, but I’m praying someday he will choose to pick up a book on his own, instead of me always having to assign them as “work” (in his eyes).
These books are full of information. The stories are beautiful. These books will not only advance the reader but also spark imagination. If you can, please share more from your library, thanks!
We studied and got high grades the same way in high school! So funny....I remember doing that with those boring textbooks. I got straight As and can't remember a thing I learned!! Thanks so much for your videos.
Good evening Sherry. Thank you so much for this series. I am a South African, Afrikaans speaking expat "mamma" who is trying to homeschool a 7 year old and 4 year old. I feel slightly overwhelmed because I am homeschooling in Afrikaans and the box curriculum I purchased was dry and boring ( we started first grade in Febuary). With the pandemic the island's borders have been closed so I can not get any new books plus honestly my budget was spend on the curriculum. I am now trying return the joy and peace into our home using my printer and the internet. What advice would you give on the type of subjects I need to include ? How many books per subject per year? Or should I just read the Afrikaans books that we have and the few I managed to find online so far in. Do you have a video or a blog post on how to teach first grade? Thank you so much. God bless
I think the best thing for you to do is first pray and listen to the Holy Spirit, then take advantage of blog posts on momdelights.com and on this channel💗
@@MomDelights thank you so much for responding. Will keep on praying!Such profound advice. My husband and I was talking about school and the world at the moment. As we talked we realised how the "Voortrekkers" only had the bible to teach their children how to read and write. No fancy curriculum, picture books or chemistry sets. His word was enough! I have been so focused on the 3 R's ,subjects and curriculum that I have forgotten to ask God what He wants for his children. God bless xxx
We own the Book House set and LOVE IT! I got the whole set at a used bookstore for $20! At the time I could only find it on ebay for $100+ A great resource for public domain audiobooks is librivox.org. We’ve listened to Beatrix Potter books, Peter Pan, various books by Edith Nesbit, etc...My children especially enjoy the recordings with the English accents. I have to admit Beatrix Potter is best read with an English accent anyway! Lol
Hi Sherry! Quick question for you… when you had lots of kids at home, how often did you plan; once a week, 2 weeks, once a month? How much did you have on autopilot and how much needed planned more often?
Great question! I did not have the time to plan more than once, maybe twice a year, and then minor tweaking as the months wore on where necessary. McGuffey, Harvey's Grammar, and Ray's Arithmetic were the auto-pilot subjects, with Spencerian thrown in as well. We had a history/science book or spine we explored together, with various projects, etc. (mostly notebooking pages). The book or spine changed with our interests or inclinations (little or no advanced planning). Hope this helps :)
Could you do a video on your favorite readers that you have found for free on these websites? I would like some more wholesome readers for my kids to enjoy.
I just have to say that you are such an inspiration! I always watch your videos with my notepad next to me because I don't want to miss any gems of information you have to give. Have you looked at the sites www.americanliterature.com or www.openculture.com? I get goosebumps whenever I come across great sources of information. Keep up the fantastic work!

Wow--so glad you enjoy it!
Loved seeing all these resources. I always appreciate your practical approach to educating the whole child, not just checking off boxes. ❤️
It's the way God teaches us, isn't it?💗💗💗

We listen to a podcast by Angela Odell about history and my kids love it
Sounds great.
I also have those Child Craft books from my childhood and my mom's childhood.

Have you checked out Gather round homeschool?
I did a few years ago, and I like the concept, but it was not a good fit for us.
I have the ABCs of Nature book and will use it for our science curriculum this year. I paid roughly $4 for it.
Wow! This stuff is so cheap--love it!💗
More more!!😄. I love these kinds of videos!
My printer does not do double sided… was hoping to enlarge and print 8x11, any tips on doing this from Gutenberg?
Everything I know about printing from Gutenberg I learned from rosegate.dreamhosters.com/index.html

So true! Librivox is terrific, too.
I’m wondering what you would recommend for World History for the elementary years?
I’ve googled and I can’t find Lori Whites website. Can you link it please?
No problem: www.theshorterword.com/
