Revisiting this post a year later and after using your book recommendations from this and your other posts in Language Arts, Science, History, Math, and Bible, I have found that out of the millions of living book lists our there, your choices are, hands down, my favorites. I would love to see more videos and blog posts on your living book picks. Thanks again, Sherry!

Hi, I just stumbled across your channel! I bought one of your books several years back, before TH-cam was a thing, lol. Great to "meet" you! I've been binge watching! I'm an older mom of many also. 15 kids, then married a man with 8, and we had 1 together to make 24. I'm homeschooling the youngest 2 right now.

As the publishers of CM-inspired curriculum for almost 30 years, we're always excited to see how others use the CM methods in their own homeschools. Thanks for sharing with us!

My mother-in-law has given me several sets of children's books for my 3 year old daughter that some might call antique classics (such as Beatrix Potter books). I honestly wasn't sure what to do with them or if I even wanted to read them to her, but I've been watching your videos for the last week or so and you are changing my mind about older literature!
My daughter has a substantial library of children's books, but I don't care for reading most of them more than a few times because the content is not high quality. Some silly books are fine in my opinion, but only SOME. Thank you do much for opening your viewer's eyes to the importance of quality literature! It's not easy to come by nowadays so it's no wonder you are willing to spend a little (or a lot) more or print off entire books so for sake of enriching your children's mind - while not numbing your own during read aloud times.
I'm glad I am young while finding out all of this information because I plan on having quite a few children as well. I am only 25 with one child (and another girl that is due in less than two months) so I have a lot of time learn more and to acquire higher quality content materials for homeschooling. :) God bless you and your family. ♥

Thank you, Elizabeth, for taking the time to leave such an extensive comment. I am glad I was able to introduce you to some great reading material from days gone by. I have also benefited and gained so much by using these books with my children! You are going to do well as you walk with Jesus in your mothering.

Thanks for the recommendation of King Alfred's English. Amazon had it for $.99, and I had a credit, so I bought it. It's fascinating, and I'm only on page 6. I'll have to finish watching your video later.

I have one of the Christian Liberty Press Nature Readers that I found at a library sale. Or it may have been given to us by a friend. But I love it and am waiting for my daughter to become a bit more confident in reading before sharing it with her. I need to look into get more of them because I think my daughter will absolutely love them.

Oh and I also have collected the Beatrix Potter set from library sales for about $0.10 each because you can fill a bag full of books for only $7/bag. I walked out of there with a bag of 75 books for $7. I also got 3 or 4 of the Frog and Toad books in that sale. I absolutely love the gently used library books for such a low price.

Another comment from me. LOL I just wanted to let you know, this video has grown my already mile long list of books to get even longer. I added each of the books you recommended that I don't already own or didn't already have on my wishlist. Then I went to the link on your page to look at all of the teen books you recommended. I'm just very happy that my oldest is only 5 so I have a few years to start collecting all of those books. Haha

I have been so blessed by your videos! I am looking for specifically living science books that are Christian world views and available online (either archived books or ones for $$) for grades k-4. We have no access where we live to any library with English books or even reliable shipping options so I need online options. The google archives aren’t even allowing the books to open where we live. I have access to many books, Gutenberg and a couple others though. I found history ones easily but I’m a little stuck with the science.

Glad you asked! There are actually many out there, but a few months back I actually compiled my own list and have it as a free download on my site, momdelights.com. Just go onto my blog and look for "Homeschool for Cheap or Free" in the search box at the top. The download (no sign up or anything) will have a link somewhere in the post.

Thank you for this video (another great video). I was wondering if you might be able to shed some light on how you find living books that include specific information? You may address it further in the video, but we are about to head to the park, so I have to pause. Anyhow, I have young kids (5 and almost 2). My 5 year old I guess I might say gets "inspired" easily with questions. So let's say, you read frog and toad; well suddenly she has a million SPECIFIC questions about frogs and toads. She has stumped librarians a few times with questions when we are looking for a book (How did dinosaurs stay warm? Why do Gorillas bang on their chest? Why do some sharks have 1 dorsal fin and others 2--although she says fins on the back, she doesn't know dorsal, of course). Sometimes I resort to going online and trying to find the answers because they are just so specific that it is hard to find books that actually answer the questions. Her new questions are related to birds and nests-how do birds build nests, is it hard to build a nest, how long does it take to build a nest--this probably will not be as difficult as say the dinosaur question.
Have you had any children like that? If we grab a few picture books with animal characters, and a few nonfiction about the animals, she will actually listen to the titles, reject the picture books that have stories with the animals because she was "not curious" about "where is robin" and gravitate towards the nonfiction with titles that address certain topics. Sometimes I find myself just looking for books that answer the question, regardless of the quality of the books, just because it answers a certain question. Or, she will pick an unusual animal--like red pandas (we went to the zoo, she got to pick a toy on this particular one, and it was a red panda, which sparked a whole little phase on red pandas); there are not a lot of books about red pandas. I ended up going with what I could find?
Sorry for the long question. It is just one of the more difficult things I am encountering with her having so many questions, and so many very specific questions.
