  • We accidentally overwatered my FAVORITE Plant (variegated Watermelon Peperomia) and it almost died of root rot! I decided to do an experiment and take leaf, petiole and stem tip cuttings of the ENTIRE plant to save it! Follow along my month long journey and see which type of technique worked best!
This was shot vertically for IGTV so it uploaded weird, but I felt like it was still fun content to share!

Thanks for this video Maria! I just purchased a Watermelon Peperomia (love it!) and after bringing it home, discovered that it was overcrowded and needed some TLC. So, I decided to propagate a ton of it to make room for new growth. I've had them in the cups for about a week, so hopefully they grow. I'm also trying the potting method, but I saw a tip to use cinnamon powder on the leaf edges to prevent rot if you don't have rooting hormone, so I tried that. Fingers crossed that it works! I will probably give the propagates to my 3rd graders since I don't have space for them. Also, I watered my peperomia for the first time since bringing it home and it perked up so much! I was totally shocked because I thought I had just bought a crappy dying plant, but it only needed water. Go figure!

That was great! I need to do it with my peperomia.
Question: how often were you changing the water stems were in?

i wasn't very diligent about that actually- once a week, when the water would get noticeably cloudy

I tried ur method but their roots are growing very slow compare to yours. Should I place it under growing light 24/7? Or where the perfect spot ?

it's doing so well! putting off lots of new little babies- I'll likely actually have to pot it up sooner than expected!

How do you know if your peperomia is too far gone for propagation? I’m pretty sure mine had some root rot so I got rid of the rotten roots and repotted it, it’s still dropping and the leaves are soft. Now I’m scared I killed the whole thing.
