In addition to the details provided above, there was also the factory's own railway station (Ardeer Factory), with inbound scheduled morning trains from Ardrossan, Saltcoats and Stevenston, returning in late afternoon. 13000 workers clearly merited a separate branch line and station. And Africa House, built for the 1938 Empire Exhibition in Glasgow was purchased by ICI Nobel Division, dismantled and rebuilt at the factory gates as one of their works canteens.
Always awesome video sharing ❤️📷Really enjoyed watching..Thanks for sharing this with us giving another a big Big like thumbs up 👍👍👍 See you again on next video 📸
Thanks Our and About for this beautiful countryside sharing, so quiet place 😀 ! Have a nice evening in UK and see you soon. Greetings from Paris. Stay connected. François
Hi and thanks, Out and About ! for taking us for a walk to "Ardeer on the west coast of Scotland in Ayrshire" with you. Wow, such a dangerous Dynamite factory existed in a remote area and now I was glad to know that the site has been closed, so you can take us to hike. The ruins @1:33, @5:06 through the rest. What are they on your right @2:22? Some calculations on the wall @19:44. It gave me a chill moment to visualize the people who worked there... The drone footage took us to the time-travel. Well done. Look forward to watching more of your videos. 😊😊Soraidh
Many thanks for watching and a lovely comment ,there is alot going on the bits you mentioned are where a small guage railway ran materials around the site with a lot of earth mounds to protect i the event of an explosion so many other things that reamain a mystery to us 👍👍👍👍😁
I moved to Irvine in the late 1980s, when this complex was in its final years. On the Irvine harbour side of the plant was a jetty where boats used to load, well presumably, explosives. A couple of hundred yards down stream was the Magnum Leisure Centre, which contained a swimming pool, ice rink, theatre/cinema, gym and indoor sports halls. When the boats were loading there was a restriction on the numbers of people who were allowed into the Magnum…….the only logical assumption being that, in the event of an accident at the jetty, they didn’t want to endanger/ kill too many people. As part of the Millenium Celebrations an exhibition complex called the Big Idea was built at the end of the Ardeer peninsular across the river from the Magnum. Amongst other things it told the story of the Nobels and the development of explosives but closed after a couple of years due to dwindling visitor numbers. Over the years there have been various plans develop the Ardeer peninsular, which have included golf courses and, the latest, building a mini nuclear power plant there……to date they have all come to nothing. In the meantime, it makes a great place to wander and marvel at the way nature rapidly claims back what has been taken.
Thanks Anthony what a lovely story ,nature sure is reclaiming this area and its a wonderful place to take a stroll ,its such a shame about the Big Idea complex seems to look like an interesting building from the across the water .
Very interesting and amazing tour to explore, a large area with weeds around it. Also some neglected buildings that still look solid ! Nice sharing, friend
A very interesting place indeed! Really cool how you show us around the big storage areas with the blackboard on at least one of them! Amazing the structure is still standing!
Loved the adventure with Bobby Dog ! This was an amazing place to see after reading about it in the description box , so interesting and looked so big . Brilliant tour that Bobby took us on 😀 Thanks guys , I enjoyed that ~ Anna
That is literally a crazy place!! I never realised that something like this was around in the UK. It’s absolutely vast!! Just checked on Google Earth and it’s the same size as the whole of Irvine!! And it’s amazing how nature is slowly taking it back!! I wonder what they will do with this land in the future? Great share D&M. Loved this one
Nice hike. It looked a bit soggy at times. Man hat place is very big. Any idea what they did in all of the separate rooms. Imagine if they had an explosion there. It must have been fun wondering around that place. I'd like to try to figure things out. Love to see that myself. Oh, wow. It even looks bigger from the sky. Both sides of the river even. Nice job guys👍L 9
Its a huge place lots of diifferent areas where they used to mix chemicals ,there were explosions and a few people have died sadly ,the place is great to explore but you have to be careful 👍👍👍👍👍

I learn something new from the Largest Explosive Factory in the World. The place in now dilapidated but just wondering how those people that time works on making explosives. Thumbs up! 28
Interesting place, that wee building near beginning could make that watertight sort brickwork and door on. A hut for getting away from all the nonsense especially in Scotland.
