Listen here. No butt shaking, not half naked, and no curse words. Just authentic music that hits the heart. Music today will never be able to compare to this.
It's not about the depth of the lyrics or how complex the music is. The melody is what makes this song stand out. Just like today where there is often no unique melody to speak of and the lyrics are brainless vapid drug/party anthems. The beat is what's important to a lot of people in pop music these days.
Outlaw, you are right... it does sound as if she had never aged. I listened to this song and cried as a 14 year old... it was just how I thought I felt about a guy. Her speaking voice also sounds very young. RIP SKEETER Sept 19, 2004
Growing up, I loved Skeeter Davis so dearly. She was such a sweet example of "goodness" for us teenagers...no sexy persona nor nasty words...she was beautifully simple...and such a sweet role model for all of us young girls. She was truly a lady!!! We danced the night away to this gorgeous song!! Thank you for posting it. Brings back sweet memories for all of us.
This was the first song I heard playing when I got to my duty station. That's when I knew I wasn't as far from home as I thought. I will never stop loving you Skeeter Davis. You were and still are America to me. Thank You for all you've done for us. We will not forget you.
In 1987, I had the pleasure and honor of working for 5 weeks with Arthur Kent who wrote this song. He was my musical director and orchestra leader for a show I was directing. Amazing does not even to begin to describe Arthur. Fun to be around, but very reserved. The definition of a the ultimate professional. Would not play End of the World no matter how many times, or how we pleaded with him. A true pro, and completely unflappable. Can't say enough about him as a person or professional. If anyone is interested, I can tell you how he came up with the title.
Can you imagine the whole world wiped out in one fell swoop via nuclear destruction? "America in the year 2077 was a land of advanced technological achievements... and terrible civil strife. As in any age, most ordinary people wanted only one thing - a happy, peaceful life. What they got was complete nuclear annihilation." Now that makes me cry.
This is a perfect example of the 50's love song that shows the heartbreak of the times. We were innocent and this song tells the story of unrequited love. It's a signature song of the times and is a classic and should be treated like any other classic song.Cheers
Beautiful song reaches way beyond the lyrical content" The melody closes the deal. It's true when you lose someone very special that it truly feels like The End Of The World.
A songwriter, a tough life,, and the beautiful 'end of the world'. she gave more than she got; I was 12 when i heard it over and over on the radio. Now i have to go to youtube but that's all right, we still got the music.
I Never knew any other song that go so deeply into a teenager's love feelings as this one. Every time I sing it in my shows I feel like crying! It was really like the end of the world the first time for me too! these things you never forget no matter what age you are.
What a beautiful song by a beautiful lady i heard this song over 40 years ago in my local pub in england its a tear jerker more so when you read about her life and tragic death god bless skeeter r.i.p
So there I was in Fallout 4, packing heat against Super Mutants and Raiders down in and around Monsignor Plaza, this song plays on Diamond City Radio and tears start flowing from my eyes. Never thought THAT could happen. Wonderful song.
+SonataFanatica Word! it played when i went back into Vault 111 to grab the game that i forgot, just had to go look at my dead wife for second. I've always loved the music in fallout, always has those moments where the song fits perfectly. Just adds so much more emotion into the game.
This is a very beautiful simple, sweet, yet lyrically, it is quite a poetically artful song. More often than not in life, in order to express emotion and in effort to get the point across, "simple says it best!" And, this song is a perfect illustration.
This song is so sadly beautiful. She can't understand why the world has moved on because she knows something very profound has changed in her life. Deep down inside, something has died and she realizes she will never get over it. It really is the end of her world. Everytime I hear this, I think of my late grandfather. Love you and miss you Poppy Bill.
The first time heard this song was on Fallout 4, and i have loved it ever since. I can't believe i haven't heard such a beautiful song. I absolutely love country music, (even though this was kind of pop back then, which i don't consider it pop.) This song fits perfectly in Fallout. I'm fighting my way from city to town and the back to city and I just can't wait until the next time diamond city radio plays this song. I never EVER thought that a song would play on a game and be this wonderful. thanks to you too you Skeeter Davis for this beautiful song! and Thank you Todd Howard!
I've heard this song countless times, and I often listen to it again and again, this series continues, a beautiful song sung in a unique and beautiful way.
This was one of the first songs I ever heard on radio. My first radio was one of those that had to be clamped to something that was grounded (radiator, pipe or similar)with a so called alligator clip to get reception. The music was great for those times. If singers like Skeeter Davis would be singing today with all the technical possibilities that we have they would bomb out all of todays "so called" singers that can not perform live without alot of loud music around them which blocks out thier inferior quality. Irregardless what song I klick on to hear, there is always someone who feels the need to expose thier inferior intelligence to everyone else with some sort of irrelivent, stupid, insulting or primative remark. We have the privilege here of being able to endulg in something that previous generations could'nt even dream of. So, to say it simple and streight "If you don't like it.....Then move on and take your attitude with you"! Let others enjoy as they wish you to enjoy what you like. Music is all we have in this world which has always brought people peacefully together, so let's leave it that way!....PS- Thankyou Skeeter!!!
i grew up on this womans voice and didn't know her name until i was older. as a kid i used to just ask them to play the cassette with the lady who talks during her songs i.e. set him free. i feel very very fortunate that my parent put me on to this
Such a beautiful song and great lyrics. All her songs will last forever, I listen to her songs every day, lifts my mood every time Thanks Frank Gissane Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
Her song brings back so many memories. I thought that it was a great tribute that Herman and the Hermits performed the song. Rest In Peace, Mary Frances you are loved and remembered. I dedicate my Relay For Life to you and all the victims of Breast Cancer.
I was blessed to hear her perform at the grand ole Opry several times before it changed it's format and now is pop music and a lot of non-country music as well.
I wish there's something I can say to make you feel better. But I know from personal experience that at a time like this nothing others say really make a difference. I recently realized that I actually still haven't got over my break up two and a half years ago, but you know it's gonna get better. Just hang out with your friends more. When I was going through my breakup I was so afraid to be in my apartment alone that I crashed on my friends couch for 5 weeks. That helped a lot.
Dear MyOzzio, Yes,I have heard some Billie Holliday, and she is soft and penetrating also. Maybe I haven't heard enough of her. I saw a good movie called, "Lady sings the blues".Music is a great way to keep the mind connected, to love!
This was done in Toronto in 1971.The show was a promotion of her release of her song One Tin Soldier. My brother Wayne filled in on drums for her as her's was sick and couldn't do it.
When I was in the second year of middle school, it was a pop song that an English teacher played with a cassette. I didn't know the song title for 27 years. Just don't say no, ... I wake up in the morning and I wonder. But finally I found a song.
This song came out in the fall of 1962, it was " our " favorite song while we were dating and not for the words of breaking up..we listened seems like all that fall and we married Dec.1962 and it was before that we heard it on the car radio and juke boxes of the day. This year will be our 50th.. I loved it so much I was able to get the dress she wore on the album " End of the World " with the red velvet dress and you can barely see a little fur on the Album cover. Married Ralph EmeryI know
I was playing fallout, listening to Diamond City Radio with speakers, this song came along. I was surprised when my dad started singing along. He said, the music reminded him of his childhood.
My heart has been broken so many times; I've never have been able to find that very rare "true love." To me, that's the only thing which makes life complete and is the truth of existence. Where is my true love ... ?
I'd normally make some comment about how the world has changed 50 years on ... but it would be pointless ... all we can do is cherish the great songs and singers and our memories ...
I heard this song on an episode of Lucifer and had to look it up! I really love classic songs from the 20-60s and it’s really amazing to find these old song clips from the past! Really nostalgic
In '63 I was 17 years old and we we're dancing cheeck to cheeck playing lp's.from her Now I am 73 and still listening with wet eyes to her songs.
Thanks for sharing such an amazing memory
So touching 😢 I am crying now also
Listen here. No butt shaking, not half naked, and no curse words. Just authentic music that hits the heart. Music today will never be able to compare to this.
THIS IS WHAT MUSIC IS ALL ABOUT--plain and simple Beautiful !!
What a beautiful and gentle voice she had.
Yes, and she loved to sing barefooted. Something she has done most all her singing career. God Bless
Still kicking old fart?
@@skyes6749 lmao . You're so right.
Yes indeed ☺️
Songs today cannot even be compared to this classic!!
+Evan Beausoleil some can
+Ser D. Hawke not
She has a decent voice and mediocre lyrics. How is this better than most of the pop music right now? Pretty equal.
It's not about the depth of the lyrics or how complex the music is. The melody is what makes this song stand out. Just like today where there is often no unique melody to speak of and the lyrics are brainless vapid drug/party anthems. The beat is what's important to a lot of people in pop music these days.

This was done in Toronto years ago My brother drummed for her that night.
One of the best songs...EVER! I saw her preform this in Nashville in 1977, I liked it THEN, AND EVEN BETTER TODAY.
beautiful, sad tune, great country voice.
What a beautiful song! It makes me cry. Skeeter was great. too bad we don't have singer like this.
i may have been only 12 and 13 years old, but i remember feeling like this. breaks my heart all over again
I'm a collector of antiques and this beautiful song goes to my collection.
The best, most simple, melody, beautiful!

Interested too!
Happy times my friend, !!
Sylvia Dee wrote the lyrics about losing her father. Arthur Kent wrote the melodically beautiful music.

僕の大好きなこの曲は、いろんなアーティストが唄っているけれど、スキーターの素朴でストレートな唄声を聞くたびに、感動で胸がふるえてしまいます・・・I love Skeeter I love The end
of the world・・・
Just plain beautiful! I love this song, and Skeeter Davis so much. I miss her, but I know she's in a much better place, on tour with the Angels. ❤️❤️
It's so beautiful that i dont have words to describe her voice and this song.
I always loved her beauriful voice......she has left us with some timeless and very precious recordings that I still love......

Absolutely beautiful. Best version I’ve heard.
This song will never die for we will always be waiting for that moment; and so far, no one had ever killed us by this song the way she does.

When I first hear this song, I was a freshman in college ('63), it was still popular when I graduated, still have the original album today.
Ich liebe dieses Lied, es liegt soviel Emotion darin 😪🤧

A Song that was very heartening, even though I was born in the 80s, soft vocal added to the silence of my soul..

Without sounding too morbid, it would be a beautiful, heartfelt song to play at a funeral
I was in action, against raiders, when I heared this touching song. In that second I I stoped everything, and just listened to her.

Beautifully sad . Brings tears to the eyes
