    Lexapro was a life changer for me.
    I’ve had anxiety and depression for most of my life and at age 65 started taking it. The heavy cloud I had over my head all these years finally disappeared. It’s made a huge difference in my way of life. Only wish I found it earlier!

    Just take that pill, trust the science & the doctors they want to help. it’s not scary ur anxiety is making you scared. You will come out the other side much happier. I was once scared too, now I look back in a better mindset and think why?

    Thanks Amanda for sharing from your heart. I am on day 6 with 10mg escitalopram once a day. I feel some anxiety and concern starting an anti depressant but doing okay. I did feel weird on day 3 when I got up but cannot describe the feeling. Felt a bit strange that morning. I do feel good that I finally went to see a doctor and get help. My father died March 24,2021 and life turned very lonely and scary but starting to adjust better now.

      I’m glad to hear you are doing better. The best part of this journey is that either every day will get a bit better, or you’ll realize soon that maybe you should try something else. But lexapro has a high effective rate, so chances are you will get used to it! Not a doctor or licensed professional, just speaking from experience :)

    I was prescribed lexapro a couple days ago, 5mg. I had a panic attack and high anxiety the whole first day. I went to my doctor that same day and she said she had never heard of lexapro causing anxiety. It absolutely caused my panic attack because I don't really get them. I've maybe had 4 panic attacks in 36 years. She lowered my dose to 2mg and I'm feeling better and less depressed already.

    • @4manda4llison
      @4manda4llison  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Some people are much more sensitive to medication than others, especially those with anxiety (we feel everything lol). My doctor was surprised that I was having a reaction at 5mg too, just slowly taper up and you’ll do great! Eventually you won’t feel like you’re on medication, and you’ll start feeling more calm.

    I'm super sensitive to medications too! Last time I took lexapro I woke up in the middle of the night and threw up. That was 10 years ago and I've been so apprehensive to try it again until yesterday. Took 10mg felt nauseas, lots of yawning and dizzy. Today I've taken 10mg and just feel drowsy so far. I'm hoping this medication works as I've reacted to every other one that I've tried.

    Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing. I am one week on lexapro as well (5mg), for anxiety/panic disorder. I am wondering how you are feeling now? This first week had a lot of bad symptoms for my anxiety/panic attacks (increasing anxiety, double vision, some lows), the doctor actually prescribed me xanax to help. I found like you, I have read a lot of negative stories/comments, which just sorta aggravated how I was feeling. However, I found suddenly that I might be breaking through the anxiety/panic yesterday night, I was able to fight off the paranoia/panic with a lot more ease. Today was the first morning I didn't wake up with a racing heart. I am hopeful. (I did meditation yesterday and some yoga, maybe that is what helped as well?)

    • @4manda4llison
      @4manda4llison  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hello! First off, congrats on starting your journey to becoming yourself again, and know that you are not alone. Yesterday I noted that I was 100% over the physical symptoms/side effects, but I did notice a large drop in my mood, and my anxiety & paranoia is still hanging around, feeling basically how I was right before I started taking the medication. I think my body has adjusted to the Lexapro and now would be the time that I would increase, but we are waiting for my blood results to come back before we do so. My appetite is still suppressed and I'm noticing I'm getting full quicker, I wonder if this is a side effect to the depression or the medication as I was feeling pretty low.Keep me updated on your process!

      @@603adventures9 hi Zack! I switch to Zoloft a bit over 2 years ago (just because it was the most studied for pregnancy and I had become pregnant). I have highs and lows and have had to adjust my medication up and down depending on how I’ve been doing throughout the year.
      With that said my depression has greatly improved, but my living conditions have improved too. I believe a combination of putting myself in an environment that makes me happy in conjunction with the medication was really what I needed.

    I've been in ur shoes!! I've been on lexapro for a couple years now (off and on) and it's been a complicated journey. It did help with my depression, however sometimes it makes my anxiety worse for some reason! Some other side effects I experienced were - tiredness and acne... it rarely gives people acne tho so I wouldn't worry about that. i'm still on it and it makes it easier to talk to people and be myself so I hope it helps ur depression and anxiety. :)

    Hello Amanda, can I ask you in how interval you worked up your dosis? I started with 5mg and changed after 2 weeks to 10mg and got suicidal thoughts. I will just take 5mg on this weekend because my doc opens on monday and can't talk with him about it. But how long took you to go from 2.5mg to 5mg and then to 10mg and 20mg? It would be very helpful to have an outline and I would talk with my doc of course also. Thank you for this informative video!

    Thank you for posting this. I'm extremely sensitive to medication as well. My mom and step dad think it's all in my head. I did try Lexapro last summer at 5mg and was fine for the most part for 5 days. I had a little bit of anxiety on day 2 or so but I quit because of my experience on prozac. I'm going to try Lexapro again next week because things have gotten so bad. Wish me luck!

      Good luck girl! The start up process is not easy for people that are sensitive to medication, however I do promise it gets better! Unless this medication is just totally not suited for your body, you will adjust, just take it slow. Hi Amanda. Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone here on the internet. Yesterday I met with my GP and we briefly discussed my anxiety. The appointment was quick and I basically told him that I was there to tell him about the anxiety. He told me that a combination of medicine and counseling is a good approach. He prescribed Lexapro and the dose is 10 mg daily. Today will be my first time taking it. I am thinking of doing so at 8:00 a.m. and then continuing to take it at the same time each day. I do sometimes feel like I am making a mistake. I am a little worried on how it will affect me. I do not suffer from depression, but over the past several years I have been experiencing what I believe to be anxiety. Becoming independent is challenging for me. I know that I am not alone though. Stay strong! :)

      Ian Joseph Nunes hello! How are you feeling today? Today marks 2 weeks for me and it's like something has clicked in my brain and I'm feeling pretty good! I was recently softly diagnosed with bipolar II (we found abnormalities in my thyroid so looking into that) so I hope this feeling isn't just hypomania. I took my 2.5mg Lexapro today along with .25 klonopin and the combination seems to be working great. Keep me posted on how you're feeling, and I hope you can get back to feeling normal very soon!

      I am happy that you are feeling better! I will use your story as encouragement. I am sorry that you are having trouble with your thyroid. I have not yet experienced any horrible side effects since beginning the Lexapro. I feel tired sometimes, and I've been yawning frequently. I am not yet totally comfortable with the idea of needing to take the medicine. I will be scheduling my first visit with the councilor soon. The woman that I will be meeting with is a licensed independent clinical social worker. I have worked with speech therapists in the past.

    • @4manda4llison
      @4manda4llison  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ian Joseph Nunes the yawning is a totally normal due to the increased serotonin and should go away pretty quickly. It's always frightening thinking about being on a daily medication, I was definitely hesitant. What made me feel better is remembering that just like it's completely normal for a diabetic to take their insulin every day, it's normal for you to take your medication every day. The brain is an organ just like any other, and sometimes it needs a little healing :)

      Jenefer Bateman Hello! So I just increased my dose to 5mg a couple days ago, since I was very sensitive at the beginning my doctors wanted to be sure my body was fully adjusted before increasing. In other words, I stayed on 2.5 for about two weeks. I have been coupling my lexapro with .5mg klonopin to keep the edge off, as still I have issues with fits of internal aggression, anxiety, and paranoia. I am not exactly where I'd like to be just yet, but I will tell you that I am
      no where near as depressed and anxious as I was before I started. To summarize, give your body about a week and a half to adjust, if things get better then you'll know it's right for you, if it does not, you can always try a different medication in the same class. The good thing is that every day you wake up you should be feeling a little more happy and calm than the day before. Keep me posted!

To feel better reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a healthier life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. on day 1,2 or 3 did you drink COFFEE like you normally do in the morning? You say before the drug you normally had coffee...
    also, of you go off of coffee cold turkey you can get anxiety, and a whole bunch of withdrawal effects from the coffee.
    You also stated you went into the store and you felt anxiety. why didn't you take the Klonopin like the doctor said you should when you have anxiety, especially considering anxiety when you are at the store.
    You also stated you talked to your friend and you couldn't stop talking on day 7. Did you pop the Klonopin? At what point did the doctor say you should pop the knolopin
    on day 8 you drunk a lot of COFFEE which should decrease your appetite because it is after all a stimulant. Also if you start the day drinking coffee and not eating any food then your body doesn't have any energy to work with other than COFFEE and you will get paranoia from coffee.
    You should have a balance meal in the morning noon and night because that helps your mood.

    Currently wide awake after taking my first dose 10 hours ago, and went from a sobbing crying panic attack to laughing out loud in like 30 seconds!! I struggle with emetophobia the fear of vomiting and so the nausea (or the idea of the nausea) is really scary to me but so far I have not thrown up and I don’t think I will, it doesn’t feel like it. This is trippy but I know after this first week I’ll feel so much better 😬

    i started about 5 days ago, the first night was horrible. i woke up in the middle of the night and almost threw up. i was extremely panicky as well. my head was tingling and my hands were going numb like i would throw up or pass out. eventually i calmed down, but since, i keep waking up in the middle of the night at the same time. i keep experiencing tremors and my anxiety is still pretty frequent.

      Since, I have gotten a lot better, as my anxiety attacks have gone down! I'm able to do more things without being super anxious! Most days I barely feel the tremors, heat flashes, sweaty hands and feet, and nausea. For a period of time, I'd wake up nauseous and clenching my jaw (that never happened before I started the meds). It has since gone down by a lot! The symptoms have gone down by a lot and I'm super happy with the progress. There are times when I get insomnia! But overall, I'm happier than where I was. I've also been at 10mg, for more than half a year and I'm not planning on changing that. @@memequeen1004
