Rees-Mogg took his defeat well. I suppose ceremony and pomp is his element so he's always liable to show up better in those situations than others where he has to appear more.....what's the word?......relatable? Still, it would be disingenuous not to at least credit him with that. He took it far better than Truss, for example. And fellow MPs do actually speak quite highly of him in some aspects. I'm no fan of him, his supercilious mannerisms, his politics, his party or any of that but it'd be churlish not to recognise that.
Nonetheless - remember his sophistry for Johnson's government.

Rees-Mogg losing his seat was less of a shock to me than the moment I realised he is almost 3 years younger than me! 🤯
My gut-reaction to Rees-Mogg is to despise him for being so entitled and smug, but having watched a short film of him as a 12 year old, obsessed with money, stocks and shares and Thatcherite policies, I actually feel some sympathy for him.
It appears that he was never allowed to be a child and as a consequence, grew up with a blinkered view of the world, lacking empathy and any concept of what life is really like for ordinary people. If only his parents had bought him a football, a fishing rod or a guitar.
His obsession with money and status may have prevented him from realising what the truly important things in life are.

What a humble acceptance speech by the Labour candidate.

The biggest Portillo moment has to be, the former PM Liz Truss, losing her seat, then, very ungratiously, refusing to give a concession speech. The announcement of the result was delayed, because she could not be found, and when offered the chance to make a speech, she shook her head and promptly left the stage.
Another feature of this election has been Sky falling all over themselves to point out that Labour have won a huge majority, but with the lowest share of the vote of any winning party, and conveniently ignoring the fact that this election is the first election in history to have 4 major parties in contention for every seat in England, instead of the traditional 2 or 3, as Reform, who have done very well, did not exist until 2021.

      That. Is. A. Disgrace.
At least JRM had the decency and respect to accept his defeat with grace.
      Still a POS though 😉

But the result still reflected the 3 party system with Reform only achieving
      'Green' status

Reese Mogg was relatively gracious in his concession speech. I am sure he will be well looked after by his fellow rich friends in the city. However, his fellow Tory party colleague, the abomination that is Liz Truss, was not gracious enough to give a concession speech. Hopefully we will not see either of them again in mainstream politics, but I have a nagging feeling that the horror that is Liz Truss will try and remain relevant and attempt a comeback.

One always has to wonder at these "politicians" who fail to get in on several attempts - but at least he's got rid of now - hopefully the last we will ever see of the ruddy Rees-Moggs - his dad was a pain in the butt back in Majors' day too!

To be fair - the gracious thanking and recognition of his team for helping him in the constituency was quite dignified and very respectful.
He can go back to Nanny-land where I think he is actually much more secure!

Good to see another Rowland Emett fan! I've got two of his whimsical railway books - 'The Early Morning Milk Train' and 'Sidings and Suchlike' - a beautiful fantasy world which mirrors some of my dreams! Meanwhile I trust that, like refugees sent by air to Rwanda, Mr Rees-Mogg will find himself bundled into a Tardis and sent on a one-way trip back to the year 1911! But a gracious and dignified resignation speech it has to be said. He's always been known for good manners. Unlike some of the Reform party!

Now he can follow his refugee Hedge Fund to Dublin where, just like a true Brexit believer, he relocated his British company ( sacking some of the British staff in the process) so he could keep doing business and making money in the EU without having to re-register everything.
