8:13 you wouldn't get that nowadays. Richard Gough angry that the hearts player is sent offf and trying to change the refs mind. He is a serious legend and this just shows how fair a player he is.
Agreed. Im a hearts fan and i thought it was class that gough tried to get the ref to calm down. He even said the following day that the ref ruined the game.
@@gilwillia Tbh the crowd had turned and McCoist or the team didn't celebrate the last goal. The ref and officials had completely lost the plot and the players knew it.

So Neil Pointon was playing for Hearts in '96? I remember him playing for my team, Everton, when we last won the league, back in '87, when I was in Primary school.
Funny that both Paul Ritchie and David weir - having got red cards - still signed for rangers but with totally different experiences that maybe say something about them as men & as players Ritchie joined on a free from hearts, lasted 77DAYS! And never played a game. Was then sold to Man City. Weir joined AT AGE 37 ! He played for 5 years - 162 games. Gets a UEFA CUP runners up medal, 3 league titles 2 scorrish cups winners and 2 league cup winners medal. Won SPL & ssw player of year aged 40 captained the team from 2009 and became oldest outfielder in champions league history at nearly 41. Only rangers hall of fame inductee while still playing for the team. Great legend and possible the best value player of all time
Most of the comments regarding this match are about the poor ref, and rightly so. But what about Durie feining injury to get David Weir sent off and then smiling?!? Rangers were two up and Hearts were down to ten men and still Durie pulls a stunt like that. What a piece of work he was, and I was disgusted when Hearts signed him. He was a disgrace that day.
Out of the 4 Hearts players sent off only 2 were actual sending offs imo. I dunno what the ref was thinking that day, but as a Rangers fan the ref had a right shocker that day. A display that would make Kevin Clancy proud
The game has changed. A lot of other countries invested heavily in football. Also, I think that the tendency to keep playing the long ball and selecting youngsters based on dubious attributes like bravery and strength rather than a sound technique is really showing.
Yeah - that was such a well=-taken goal. And he could so easily have gone down in the box. He actually fought to stay on his feet to put the ball away into the net.
What a player Gascoigne was ! Also, so sad we don't hear hardly any Scottish/British names in our teams anymore. It's only twenty years ago ffs but so many teams now have a first team with less than twenty per cent British on the field. I've got to be honest it does take a lot of the enthusiasm out of the game for me.
Glat64 you could only play 3 foreign players in those days.... the rule changed 16th December 1995 few months before this game.....if rangers had their way they would of been playing mostly foreign players for sure.... so it's not by choice that's for sure!
Jock brown was such a bluenose, Rangers players (apart from durie) were class, really embarrassed about the ref totally loosing the plot...just remember hearts having to sing players off the street to play against celtic midweek.
Most likely the ref, even Rangers players were pleading with the ref not to send the fourth Hearts player off, but the ref gad his haughty schoolteacher attitude that only Scottish refs can
They were called Glasgow Rangers F.C. They went down the tubes a few years ago due to being liquidated. They asked for help, but their fans just let the club die.
Ref/linesman clearly at it but the commentary. wow. so biased as well. Durie dives saying weir elbowed him and he has to say an arm was thrown. typical scottish football
thought Weir was a bit unlucky and obv it went downhill from there. Durie was being a bit of a d1ck on the first incident, and then when they squared up, Weir did "discuss" a headbutt but didn't actually deliver one - but i think the ref saw the movement and sent him off for that. for what it's worth, i don't know much about it all, but looked like the Hearts chairman was actually trying to calm things down too, like "we've gotta play this game out because it'll be worse for us if we forfeit" etc...
Interesting stuff, slightly upsetting although nothing mean after all. Rangers did not add insult to the ref's brain injury. There was mutual respect from the players amid some niceties.
I remember this game. Rangers really took their foot off the pedal however if Hearts lost another man the rules state that the game should be abandoned.
At least Durie didn't go down when Weir did the little headbutt. Today players would fall down like a sack of totties and roll around holding their heads as if shot. Kent should watch Laudrup and gazza on how to go through the middle and create from taking players on.opening space for others etc rather than just doing it for the sake of it and having tunnel vision.
I don't think Hearts put that many bad tackles in. We see the ones they did go unpunished every week. Fair enough, the back chat and the stupidity was blatant. 20 years ago... ffs. I 'mind watching this as a teenager. Fuck all has changed apart from Rangers' name. They still get the decisions.
Looking at the Davie Weir and Gordon Durie incident again, i think Durie made a meal of it going down the way he did, mind he used to trip over a blade of grass in opposition penalty areas.
@seannfin Still biting I see, Paddy? That's good. It amuses my friends and myself to see you continually leaping out of the water. Keep it up, Brendan. Lol!
Don't associate Rangers with the referees, Gough was trying to stop the referee sending folk off. The first two were obvious reds but the other two were ridiculous, no need for those ones just the ref being a dick.
im having a great time watching celtic play well, but that doesn't mean i cant revel in my enemies failure. sorry but you guys have been singing about wading up to your knees in my blood for the past 70 years so its kind of hard not to.
good to see good quality decent length highlights

Shut up
It's the players that needed to calm down
Albertz, Laudrup and Gascoigne in the same Rangers team...WOW
Zippy Bungle too yep, Rangers were one hell of a force between the early 90's and 00's
Zippy Bungle as a Celtic fan born in 90, I had the pleasure of basing my left peg of doom on Albertz, probably the only joy from 90-97 I had.
Made possible because Rangers weren't paying their taxes.
Happy days
EBT FC
what "backhander" at 6:39 is the commentator talking about? even the commentators are seeing things and not just the refs.
Don’t know about a backhander; maybe an elbow-and if it wasn’t, the motion of a head butt was the red card offense...
I can’t believe I’m saying these words but...fair play Richard gough
Scouse-style ‘concern’. Only appropriate when the game is in the bag and you want to signal virtue.

The ref's ma next door neeb,,,,,,,,,,nothing surprising since that day.
Aldo 75 haha is he a wank
Laudrup and Gazza in Gerrard's team now would be scary good and fit are system absolutely perfect wow
spot on mate, even the rangers fans booing it was fair play

So Neil Pointon was playing for Hearts in '96? I remember him playing for my team, Everton, when we last won the league, back in '87, when I was in Primary school.
@Henry Tudor - think he was a squad player. Regularh right-back was Gary Stevens and Pat Van Den Hauwe was on the other side.
big davie weir still going strong 13 years later!
I know I'm 10 years late to reply but him captaining Rangers to win the league in 2011 was unreal considering how this game was in 96
@@mt2oo8 Two years late too lol and yeah, holy shit, dude refused to age!

The size of the Hearts keeper's shorts! You could pitch a tent with those.
Don't be silly the keeper had that little issue. He was suffering from syndrome erectile.
What an embarrassment to football the linesman and ref are. No wonder the crowd was booing at the end SMH
Jack
Miller
The only embrassment here are the players.
what is the commentator talking about? the ref lost the plot, not Hearts,
Archie woof! goal! may have commented but he certainly wasn't commentating. That would be Jock Brown.
Bruno got the red card,!?!? Why?The contact was accidentally.
I was there that day, Rangers were even embarassed by the actions of the G.F.A.
Weir was not sent off for that, he was sent off for moving his head forward after that. Stupid yes, but that is a straight red in the rulebook.
Kyle laugherty springs to mind.
and he ended up at Hearts as well!
HerrNilssonTheMonkey yeah your filthy mum
Don’t forget an elbow in the face is also a straight red in the rule book. Regardless.... even if Durie made an absolute cunt of him
Didn't Realize Fr Stone did a bit of refereeing
@PETERNEILL9 I was at that game. Pointon wasn't sent off for that in itself. He let rip with a barrage of verbal abuse at the linesman.
Laudrup, Gazza, Albertz & McCoist, my 4 favourite rangers players, what a team that was!
Thanks for posting.
Who was No 9 for Rangers that day?
McInnes as McCoist was a sub
We'll never see this again 😢
Out of the 4 Hearts players sent off only 2 were actual sending offs imo. I dunno what the ref was thinking that day, but as a Rangers fan the ref had a right shocker that day. A display that would make Kevin Clancy proud
What the hell happened to Scottish football? It's looking like the national team will never make it to a major tournament ever again.
The game has changed. A lot of other countries invested heavily in football. Also, I think that the tendency to keep playing the long ball and selecting youngsters based on dubious attributes like bravery and strength rather than a sound technique is really showing.
This aged poorly, happily
@@MusicalTranscendence stick to music
If you look closely at the ref and linesman's socks you can see their flutes tucked in them.
Best top that one-hopefully next year's top might be better than the last few-also loved the 1972 top
Decide?
Gascoigne was something else. Neither Rangers nor England have had anyone of his class since!
Yeah - that was such a well=-taken goal. And he could so easily have gone down in the box. He actually fought to stay on his feet to put the ball away into the net.

Jock Brown bluenose -- General manager of CELTIC!!!!!!
Bruno appears to be inviting Gazza out for a drink after the match, after he's been sent off.
@seannfin Why would that be, Declan?
Was it hearts losing the heads or the referee?
Most likely the ref, even Rangers players were pleading with the ref not to send the fourth Hearts player off, but the ref gad his haughty schoolteacher attitude that only Scottish refs can
who's that team in blue? where are they now?
They were called Glasgow Rangers F.C. They went down the tubes a few years ago due to being liquidated. They asked for help, but their fans just let the club die.
hmm, their fans must be vermin of the highest order, would that be a fair assessment?
You did LOL
Shocking commentary from Jock Brown
Ref/linesman clearly at it but the commentary. wow. so biased as well. Durie dives saying weir elbowed him and he has to say an arm was thrown. typical scottish football
I remember that game.
It wasn't even a game after all the sendings off, play kept being interrupted because there were no defenders available to keep Rangers onside!
yeah but you're saying you WANT your team to play at a lower level of football. its like saying "yeah, lets make our club even less distinguished"
Prehaps the Ref and Linesman were on EBT's!
Reminds me of a ref losing the plot when Stoke were beating Newcastle and he sent off 2 Stoke players and the manager. Absolute nonsense
first time one man has captained two teams
0:56 for hibs
Durie made a meal of it didn't he
I thought the game stops after 4 reds ???
chafe11 it’s 5 reds to get a match abandoned which Hearts tried their best to do
these where great days at Ibrox, I was Govan rear this day still remember it
Even Gough didn't want Ritchie off... any one remember the reason for that one?
He said to the linesman "you want to give us a fucking break"
You also wouldn't get a ref from Glasgow refereeing a Glasgow team.

worst ref ever. mccoist is clearly embarrassed when he scores.
Interesting how many of those Hearts players signed for Rangers. McCann, McPherson and os course Weir is still playing for them.
Interesting stuff, slightly upsetting although nothing mean after all. Rangers did not add insult to the ref's brain injury. There was mutual respect from the players amid some niceties.
Richard Gough was doing a sterling job, doing his best to try and calm people, (including the officials) down.
I remember this game. Rangers really took their foot off the pedal however if Hearts lost another man the rules state that the game should be abandoned.
at least the ref had a good game...

Was 1996 before Rangers made payments to their players that weren't declared to the SFA and HMRC?
They've done it long before 1996 but it's before they started getting sniffed at for those payments yeah
Brillant veiwing
+Elizabeth Young Ah the memories eh......its always sad to watch dead things on film
theres no been a player at ibrox with a left leg like albertz except messi in 2007 😂😂
3-0 was the right result -- you got to it the wrong way.

Durie was a fukin disgrace....a right hun bassa.
The referee and his assistant were obviously members of the Gestapo.
Loving the non-biased commentary as well....
erratum: the ref decided that hearts will play at seven
Crazy crazy game
It's hilarious when a player celebrates an offside goal
Hearts players, managers and owners behaved like petulant children and not one of the decisions we're wrong
Sir David Weir -5:50. How dare you??
Not corrupt, just inept.
the officials made a mockery of themselves
bafta for durie?
That ref looking like he couldn't walk around the garden never mind ref a 90 + game 😂 but he's fitter than me tho lol
you're loving watching your team play in the lowest tier of professional scottish football? as much as you enjoyed watching them play in top flight?
You're loving watching your team draw with Hibs who lost to Hearts and drew with St. Johnstone whilst we beat Aberdeen 5-0. Haha 55

Why would you want to play in division 3?????
Back when you could get away with murder before you get a yellow.

Brian laudrup was the best dribbler in the world
Back when the masons used to referee games.
I would fancy Hearts to beat Rangers now with 7 men .
In fairness, teh hacks on the Gers players were actually far less than they deserved by their merely being Rangers players....! (Spoon, anyone....?)
