HELP!! I need the duplicate card notification disabled because everytime I make a card with the same key word, it tells me I have duplicated every new card I want to make. I really need to find an add-on to ignore duplicate notifications!! Help!! I do not mind having all my duplicate notifications turned off! I just need a way to find out how to!
I agree!! I'm curious, do you ever refer to the stats or settings page after setting to recommended? I've been using Anki for some time and I've never used those two pages.. am I missing out on something? I usually just unsuspend relevant decks after watching content and then simply review daily :) Wondering if it's necessary to refer to those settings/stats :)))
Thanks, man! You are a lifesaver. I try to learn Danish and I am struggling with the limits. I did not know what can I do with these options, but now I understand. And now I also get it why I could see my cards before the Next day starts time. I never saw this option before. 1000 thanks or I can say "Tusind tak" in Danish. :)
Bruhhhhh.....why did I just now come up on this video???? This is gold. This is like activating a cheat code almost. Been trying to figure out how to adjust all these settings so I can do these cards as I want them and have never been able to figure it out. Just in the knick of time. Keep up the good work man!
I’m studying for a new national exam called the PA-CAT (for Physician assistant) and I’ll be using Anki for the first time. I’ve been following your videos for instruction and moral support (I noticed Anki isn’t very user friendly). I just sat down to start it and a notification of your new video popped up. It’s a sign lol that I’ll do my cards right. I can’t thank you enough for what you do. THANK YOU!
Hi! When I first opened Anki, I wasn't particularly enamoured with it because the interface is meh. So I started using Quizlet instead. It was fine for a while. Then, I found myself wanting more. I revisited Anki today and now I'm slowly learning the basics. I can say that I'll definitely use Anki this year.
I've been playing around with Anki's settings for some years now, but the standard ones and an increase to the parent limit of 9999 new cards/day is the best way to go. Subscribed since you just get to the point of things and have very meaningful and useful content, thanks.

Honestly, the "tag only" option for the leech cards should be set by default. Thanks for sharing that tip ! :) I didn't know Anki suspended these cards !
Thanks for the video, Prerak but actually REALLY disagree with the learning intervals here for two main reasons and I think this approach differs from the settings the majority of informed anki users on r/medicalschoolanki (on reddit for those who aren't familiar :) ) too. 1. Ease Hell: Keeping them at "1 10" doesn't help prevent the so-called 'ease hell' whereby you (inevitably) get a bunch of cards wrong overtime (once they're graduated and in the review phase), lowering their ease factors and resulting in you having to over-review a ton of cards as the learning intervals don't increase nearly as fast. Kind of difficult to explain but will link a vid that does a way better job at it. 2. Efficiency: this might more come down to personal preference but with the sheer volume of material you have to learn in medical school, having a more spaced out and elongated learning phase both helps to prevent 'ease hell' and saves you from having to do A LOT more reviews than you have to. The consensus on the aforementioned subreddit is "25 1440" (i.e. 25 minutes if you get it wrong and then a day - after which it will be graduated if you get it right) but there's also a very good argument for "15 1440 8640" (i.e. 15m, 1 day, 6 days) which is what Conan advocates for in his video that goes through this in a much more easy-to-follow way th-cam.com/video/1XaJjbCSXT0/w-d-xo.html (Conaanaa aka Suppy) "Guide to Anki Intervals and Learning Steps". The Anking also a good video on this if you dig it out. That's just my 2c though from what I've read and learned after using Anki throughout M1. Just realised this vid was posted over 2 months ago (oops) but open to hearing what people have to say and appreciate the content as always, Prerak :)
Thank you Prerak!! This was super helpful for me. Been following you for a while and always so helpful :) I'm curious, do you ever refer to the stats or settings page after the initial configuration? I've been using Anki for some time and I've never used those two pages beyond just setting it initially.. am I missing out on something?
Yess, perfect timing ! I was just watching Ali abdaal's skillshare class about anki (cool cameo btw 😉) It sort of left me confused between his and anking's
I'd recommend Ali's. I actually did an interview with him and told him about the video he linked in his Skillshare course about how Anki's algorithm works. scientifically speaking, the 1-minute interval isn't a good option to have because this way you're relying on your short-term memory. I replaced it to 15 minutes and it's working pretty good for me.
Thank you for your video. My question is when I do a bunch of cards why doesn’t my number go down the next day. I keep coming back and the blue number is back to 9999. How do I get it to lower please?
Hi. For someone new to anki, what would you suggest to go through 200 to 300 new cards per day? Do you recommend going through pathoma or sketchy followed by anki? I just find it more easy to go over zanki after a pathoma /sketchy video. But I am not sure if that's the right approach. As step 1 includes a lot of memorization, I just want to get all info in my head before I start dedicated. Do you recommend anything else?
Before you do ANY cards in Anki, make sure you do a "first pass" over the material in some way or another. For example, watch the sketchy video before doing the sketchy cards. Or watch something related to Kawasaki disease (Osmosis, etc.) before doing the Kawasaki cards. The first time you do an anki card related to a specific topic should NEVER be the first time you're encountering the material (it is intended to simply reinforce something that you have learned somewhere else). With that being said, if you're studying full time and doing content review only, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do 100-250 new cards a day - as long as you realize that, eventually, your reviews will also build up - at which point you may have to spend more time on reviews as well.
Why did you decided to not change the learn ahead limit but decided to keep at 20, I have been facing a problem with the anki algorithm as it is not waiting for the time to see the cards, and I changed it to 0, does it affect the algorithm in a negative way?
thanks so much for sharing, we want just to know how your day is organized i mean how do you manage learning new stuff and then reviewing your flashcards, do you let flashcards only for night? and what is your rate per day of creating new flashcards?
I have a problem with the IMAGE OCCLUSION add on. The first few days it worked perfectly for me, but suddenly one day. The way to make them and everything was the same but al to try them I got THE FRONT OF THIS CARD IS BLANK and when I gave him to answer I got the image he had put. Suddenly all the flashcards that initially worked correctly for me happened to have the same problem. I tried to uninstall all the ad-ons, install the new version of anki 2.1.35- Standard, reinstall them but it doesn't work for me on Mac OS X version 10.13.4. It would be of great help to me if anyone could answer.
please i had to switch to 2.1 scheduler since i couldnt use cram mode with the normal one and the time intervals are different, can you make a video about the settings for 2.1 scheduler??
Sir I had set my new day starts time at 4 hours after midnight. Instead I get the cards for reviewing at 4 pm. I could not solve this problem. Date and time settings are all correct
First of all, thanks a lot for your video, it was very helpful! but I am still quite confused about how to handle the settings specifically for an exam. My question is when you change the maximum interval to 31 days (like you did), its only 31 days from the day you are in currently, right? so if I have only a few days to my exam, I can't afford for a card to come back to me only after 20 days (for example)! So my question is, what do you do when you're nearing the exam? Do you keep shortening the maximum interval over time?
When I first opened Anki, I didn't like the design at all. When I opened the settings, I was even more discouraged. I agree that the complexity of Anki makes it scary for people to use. However, your videos made me switch from Quizlet to Anki. So thank you! Any idea if they'll bring add ons to the Anki app on the iPad Pro? I found myself using the iPad pro more and more since the release of the magic keyboard. I don't want to do everything on a computer.
Why do you find the design discouraging/complex. Before I started I read that there is complexity in Anki, but now I started and I can‘t find anything complicated or so in Anki at all, so I wonder why people say like this
thank u its the only one that i understood haha hope it works for me ;( i put one day for wrong, 3 for good and 5 for easy... is it good? idk... my test will be at the end of the year and i cant forget anything
Very helpful! Thank you. I am an economics student and have to take some exams in 2 months, what will be then my maximum interval? 20 days? Would be pleased with a quick answer.

Hi Prerak. What do you think about starting Anki 3-4 months before exam? I’ve never used it before. Would it make sense to incorporate it this late into my preparation?
Everything was going well ! But now my time interval gives me two options either [10min] or [end]. What did I do wrong? Some of the cards will give me the standard [1min] [10min] [4 day] option and then other times it'll give me the option listed above. Mind you I'm in custom study mode reviewing specific tagged cards. Please help! I don't want to mess up the algo!
Thank you so much man. I have a quick question. Hey, you have helped me immensely with anki. I’m in trouble right now because I had been using an old laptop and it kept switching off a lot on its own while I had been making cards these past 2 months- but because I just restarted it and there were other cards in the browse section I just didn’t think that anki maybe wasn’t syncing properly - now I have added around 3k cards and I just don’t know if in between the laptop crashing, anki saved my cards or not. I have just been making cards for now and haven’t been revising so I just don’t know how to figure this out. Does anki save the cards like Microsoft word when it crashes? Any reply wud be really helpful. Thanks
I believe 0% is the default. I would recommend increasing it, even if only to 10-30% or so. Remember that card reviews grow exponentially, so it takes a newly forgotten card more than 10-30% of the card's total number of reviews to reach 10-30% of its original interval. See www.desmos.com/calculator/kqnk6i9tqc for an example, and change k and y as you wish.
Hi Prerak, quick question regarding pharm/drug content. I am currently going into my P1 year and have been looking around for the best pharm related content (decks) for Anki. Just wanted to see if you had any suggestions? I appreciate any help you can provide! Thank you
How do you handle suspensions of cards? I am at the end of a course now, and have 1600 cards for that course. Should I suspend all cards? Delete some suspend some? Suspend none? Tips? Thanks!
can someone please help me! I want my settings at the bottom of a card to have the options of 1min, 10 min, 1 day and right now I have 1 min 1 day 3 days, what do I do to get this in my settings? I have all the same as he has except my easy interval is 3 days instead of 4 that he has
I'll have to disagree with you on one thing. yes the 1-minute interval may be working well for you personally but scientifically speaking, it's not the most optimal way of learning. The 1-minute interval isn't a good option to have because this way you're relying on your short-term memory. I replaced it to 15 minutes and it's working pretty good for me
Respect that, and will try it out! But also, this is where the whole "do not mark as leech" and shorter interval come around for me. Even if I WAS relying on that short term memory initially, the cards I REALLY ended up having a problem with, I'd inevitably end up seeing more. And through that, I'd be able to correct myself. Again, more than one way to make this work, but my main point was that the specific, default intervals work just fine as long as you have certain settings in check (such as your max interval and the "do not mark as leech").
Hi, I just heard about Anki and watching your video on it made my day. However, how do I get more columns like yours ( total, mature, young etc)? I got just two columns - new and due. your help will be highly appreciated. TIA

Why d'you have the "New interval" set at 0%?
I believe 0% is the default. I would recommend increasing it, even if only to 10-30% or so. Remember that card reviews grow exponentially, so it takes a newly forgotten card more than 10-30% of the card's total number of reviews to reach 10-30% of its original interval. See www.desmos.com/calculator/kqnk6i9tqc for an example, and change k and y as you wish.

can someone please help me! I want my settings at the bottom of a card to have the options of 1min, 10 min, 1 day and right now I have 1 min 1 day 3 days, what do I do to get this in my settings? I have all the same as he has except my easy interval is 3 days instead of 4 that he has
wow what a explanation
How long does it take for u to get through 1 typical lecture of ex) 30 slides ? (including time to make the associated anki deck)
How many cards do you usually read/day?
what if you wake up and lose all your cards ....
I will suicide
Oh my God 😑
What about the "steps (in minutes)" setting???
In Leech, How does Anki know you got it wrong?
Kindly help me am not able to install anki in my laptop
So helpful, thank you Prerak!
yeah but on windows there is no settings option
TIA
