@@uabforfindingthisbutalr6464 No. Messi, Busquets, Alba are enough. They need young players and to get back their injured players. They need guys who can run for days and get the ball to the ex-Barca greats. Otherwise Miami is going to get killed in transition. If not for a heroic effort from Callender in goal, Cruz Azul would have been up by 2 or 3 goals.
This was the perfect debut for the No.10. Reminiscent of the free kick he scored against Liverpool in the 2019 UCL semifinal first leg. It's paradoxical that this little man has to be the one to always carry the weight of his team. Miami hadn't won any of their last 11 games before this. The entire USA is blessed to have him. He's a bringer of joy & a gift from God.
I saw the goal against Liverpool live @ camp nou. Maybe that was last Big Game of Messi with Barça.
I thought the same. Although against Liverpool he was like 10 yards more far away.
Yes, a 3 - 0 victory over Liverpool in the first leg. But a 4 - 0 win for The Reds at Anfield saw Liverpool win the tie, qualify for the final and ultimately win the tornament. Nice goal by Messi nonetheless :)
Perfect debut was his barca debut.

@@therealcarvs48 stfu, give 5 reasons why Ronaldo is better. Dont talk abt more goals, Messi played 150 less games and Rono only scored 30 ish more goals, Messi has higher goal ratio per game, higher goal ratio per shooting. Zlatan once said the only thing Ronaldo is better than Messi is his age. The only thing Ronaldo is better is with aerial duals and we all know it. Messi with better successful dribbling ratio, 2 times more successful dribbles, better playmaking. Speed is almost abt the same if u didnt know with Messi 33 km/h and Ronaldo with 34km/h at their prime. Messi won more awards and trophies than Ronaldo, Do not talk abt paying refs and rigged games bc u simply dont have any proof, u guys r js hating for no reason. There will always be millions of analysis of this man and his success. To me, it is the love he has for the sport. @@jan279 the only problem is a "team" is more important than an individual. Messi will provide a massive boost to Miami but it's 11 v 11 and no player can win matches by themselves. Also let's not forget that Messi is getting old and past his prime. Yes he still has all the control, skill, vision....but he no longer has the energy/ stamina to go around working hard, so in all his games he will now be jogging/walking around conserving his energy waiting for the right moment to pounce. Basically Miami still need at least 2 or 3 players to compete with the best MLS teams.

What an amazing debut, the man keeps making history!
For sure mate!!

As a brit who has mocked the MLS for *years* the MLS deserves this now, its their time. Messi coming is the start of something great for US “soccer”
Before the game started my cousin and I both said if Messi gets a free kick it’s going to be a goal!
Lionel Messi made his long-awaited Inter Miami CF debut on July 21, 2023, coming off the bench in the 66th minute of a Leagues Cup match against Cruz Azul. Just 40 minutes later, he scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute to give Inter Miami a 2-1 victory.
Messi's goal was a stunning free kick from just outside the box, curling into the top corner of the net. It was his first goal in MLS, and it came just six days after his landmark, transformative deal was formally announced.
The goal was a fitting end to a memorable debut for Messi, who was greeted by a raucous crowd at DRV PNK Stadium. He showed flashes of his brilliance throughout the match, and his goal was a reminder of why he is considered one of the greatest players in the history of the game.
Messi's debut was a major moment for MLS, and it is sure to generate even more interest in the league. With Messi in the fold, Inter Miami is now a team to be reckoned with, and the league as a whole is on the rise.

He's more than earned his glory in inevitably conquering US soccer. Will probably kickstart a soccer frenzy in the country, and he's off to quite a start - this place gravitates to greatness like his, people who always rise to the moment. Glad his WC win last year solidified his place at the top of this generation, and maybe all generations, of the sport.
The 2030 WC will be hoisted by USA

Wow what a goal magnificent
It looks like he’s having fun, the way he was doing stepovers and showboating.
This might be the best way to end his career, can see him turning into a showman in the league and fully showcasing his brilliance. 50 minutes was enough hype, can’t wait for the rest of the season
Maybe thats what he needed. To get away from all the pressure of Europe and the weight of everyone's expectations. To just relax, have fun and just play.
One good thing about Messi is that he is a natural talent. Humble and not boastful, that is what I admire most in him. At the moment, he is one of the finest player on earth.
I loved that he dedicated the victory to the player that got hurt earlier in the game, Ian Frey, a 20 year old American academy player he'd just met. Consummate teammate.

Messi's great, but he's not the greatest soortsman to ever walk the earth.
Wayne Gretzky retired 24 years ago. He held 61 records at the time. He still holds or shares 58 of them. My personal favorite record of his is the most points by two brothers. Wayne has 2,857. His brother Brent has 4! There's another record for most points for any number of brothers. It's held by the 6 Sutter brothers, who scored just 73 more than Wayne and Brent. Which means that Wayne single-handedly scored almost as many points as all 6 Sutter brothers, and they were no slouches!
And Wayne's arguably not even the greatest Canadian athlete of all time. In 1980, Terry Fox decided to run the entire length of Canada to raise money for cancer research. Terry had bone cancer and was running with one leg! This was 1980, so there were no fancy blade prosthetics. His prosthetic was a glorified peg leg. He ran 42km per day for 143 days before it was discovered that the cancer had spread to his lungs. He was hospitalized but vowed to resume his run where he left off. Sadly, he never recovered and died within a month. The Terry Fox run is an annual fund-raising run held in 44 different countries that has raised over $800M for cancer research.
So, yeah... Messi's great, but most definitely not "the greatest sportsman to ever walk the earth."

94 minutes of the match. Everyone was preparing to leave the field. Even if he did not get a goal, the taste of seeing Messi's debut in American football is satisfied. But he is Messi! Don't give a gift worthy of so many arrangements, it happens or not! So maybe he saved the magic for the last moment. Messi was on fire, scoring a trademark free-kick. And in the Leagues Cup, Inter Miami had a great 2-1 win over Cruz Azul. On his debut, Messi showed why he is the best of the best. (Mohiuddin Palash/Bangladesh)
