..if you're gonna make a handle, might as well make one you like. The screws intrigue me...!

Thanks. The screws act like wedges. I believe it's practical, but not the prettiest looking way :)
The good thing is that you can always tighten the screws ever so slightly if the hammer head comes a little loose. I've done this on most of my hammers, and so far there haven't been any problems.
