  • Let's talk about the new Napoleon film directed by the legendary Ridley Scott. This is a tough one because there's a lot to love but it's a little underwhelming. (Remember, just my opinion)

Didn't expect to have so many scenes of Joséphine. The film wasn't going anywhere, all it did was just potray napoleon life. Hope the 3 hour version be good.

The film was very enjoyable experience for me, the visuals and cinematography was awe-inspiring and brought home the horrors of war and brutality of our history.
A very good example of the value of experiencing cinema on a big screen.
The most important thing is Ridley Scott filmmaker extrordinare, and how he continues to create great original cinema, a breath of fresh air from Mission Impossible, what??-9?,10? or Fast and Furious 14?, 15? rinse and repeat and repeat ad nauseum.
BTW, speaking of T.Cruse, didn’t R.Scott do a film with him about 40 years ago called Legend? A beautiful, visually rich intriguing fairy tale.
Beautiful and unusual images is why many of us love cinema.

I just saw it and thought it was eh. Nothing really stuck with me. The battle scenes were impressive if that's your thing.

This was such a slog of a movie. I never felt like it was a Ridley Scott film. Compare this to The Duellists and it looks sophomoric. I agree with most of the criticism that the film tries to encapsulate the entirety of Napoleon's life and succeeds in showing none of it. I felt like I was watching a bad cut and paste of a 12 hr HBO mini series. So much was left out and there were so many historical inaccuracies it would take several paragraphs to detail. Phoenix was fine but Vannessa Kirby's performance was stunted and lacking any feelings. I never got the connection between the 2. I don't know why she is getting so much praise. All in all another major letdown from Sir Ridley. Can't remember when he put out a great film. I know the last 2 Alien films are no masterpieces but compared to Napolean and the Gucci disaster they look better and better. Kinda think it's time for the octogenarian to close shop and fade away.

I get where you're coming from, this one's probably gonna be a miss for most people. I found some enjoyment out of it but it's definitely not Ridley's best work.
