  • Here I attempt to explain Videodrome, or at least, some part of it. It's one of my favourite films, as it deals with some tricky subject matter, but somehow pulls it off successfully.
    (Just my opinion btw)

    I've been thinking about this movie since the week it came out.
    That's a movie that's gonna be fresh for new audiences for years to come.

    Thank you this is probably my favorite video about videodrome. To get my friends interested I just tell them it’s about the desensitization of the world through media for a quick simplistic overview and hopefully get ‘‘em hooked 😂

      That's great to hear! It's one of my favorites and definitely worth the watch. Might be a bit disorienting on first viewing.

      I'm guessing the quote comes from understanding media. I'm glad Alan Watt cutting through the matrix would bring me here

    I watched it recently and knew this film had many layers to it
    I am a fan of body horror but how it is utilized by Cronenberg is very different
    Body horror can disassemble the meat machine of human or connect the immaterial with the material
    Concepts that in my opinion transcend words

    I saw this movie on HBO 1983 when pay per view TV was uncensored.
    There was a nipple piercing scene. It was the sofa scene where Niki said to Max "Want to try a few things..?"
    Very next scene Max needle pierced her nipple through and through on closeup with a drop of blood and all.
    There was no "sex" involved but the inference was unquestionably obvious.
    The whole movie was provocative, but that scene was on the pinnacle edge.
    I have seen the film many times since and have never seen that scene again.
    When I saw your review I hoped I would have my answer.
    Maybe you could help me find the answer?
    I'm wondering if there is a directors cut somewhere of the original.
    I wish I could have the opportunity to see it again UNCENSORED.

    Great video, great discussion.
    I doubt that the program is perfectly incidental. The media is not the only message - watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and Saw IV dont have the same effect on a person, right?

    • @SupermanChampionOfTheOppressed
      @SupermanChampionOfTheOppressed 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Both effects are extremely miniscule compared to the effect of the medium itself.

    • @SupermanChampionOfTheOppressed
      @SupermanChampionOfTheOppressed 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But I'd wager mr rogers neighborhood might be more interesting than SAW 15, or whatever number they're up to now.
      Cube (1997) did it better.

    Ahead of its time, in USA, but not in Europe. We already had a lot of those kind of stories since the 1970s!!!
    Hollywood machine always copy and took stories of the world. I am not angry about that, but they know how to make cheap stories (from rich european stories) with huge budget from (low budget european movies) lol
    Solaris (Russian copy), Vanilla Sky (copy of the spanish movie open your eyes), Quarantine (Spanish movie REC), K-Pax (movie from Argentina). :p this list are the last 4 movies i just saw last month lol all europeans and russians movies! The list are more than 210 productions loool.
    Anyway, thanks for this explanation of a really bad script missunderstood from "Arrebato" and modify to fit the VHS Era :p
