One of the quotes that stuck with me since I saw this episode some years back was at 3:38 "A child tries...a man accomplishes" Sal Mineo who is in this clip taking off his Arab robes to reveal western clothes was also in one of the planet of the apes movies, as one of the three ape astronauts who travel back in time before the earth gets blown up in a nuclear explosion which was triggered by Charlton Heston at the end of the previous apes movie.
One of the best episodes ever. Columbo outsmarts him in a sure-fire manner when he offers him prosecution in the US, or prosecution in the Middle East! Brilliant writing.
When he leaves the delegation, among the demonstrators. One of the first, the tall one who wears a dark blue jacket, with glasses is Jeff Goldblum. He also started with the figuration.
The episode has serious Flaw ---- King's security in US is the responsibility of secret service and not the LAPD. . Ambassador should be in a Secret Service office and not in LAPD office to discuss the King's security arrangements. That way Columbo could not have been the part of the plot
Vandalizing Harold Lloyd's mansion? Yes this was done after his death. I hope the spray painting was done on a sound stage, because it is so disrespectful.
The way Arabs are portrayed in this episode seem stereotypical to me, Its a bit like the way in the Conspirators episode the Irish were portrayed as either terrorists or bricklayers. In that episode the murderer who was supposed to have come from Northern Ireland had a stage-Irish accent instead of a genuine Northern Ireland accent.
You think the way Arabs were portrayed in this episode and Irish in "The Conspirators" was stereotypical? That pales in comparison to way Mexicans were represented in "A Matter of Honor." "A Matter of Honor" was far beyond stereotypical. It was shameful, insulting, demeaning, if not down-right racist.
For me this was just an average episode of the 70's seasons. There was no big name actor playing the villian I recognised, like Patrick McGoohan, Robert Culp, or William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy etc as in other episodes. Many of the 70's Columbo episodes I can watch over and over again but not this one, the first time was enough.
@@bababa3917 Not always. For example the commodore episode was not good either in my opinion despite having Robert Vaughn in it. Everyone is different like the saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
There must have been something that happened before the beginning of this story. I know this is how they made programs in the 50’s but 10 minutes for a whole episode is not enough. I don’t get the ending either
@@SciTrekMan Columbus in the 50’s was never more than 10 minutes partly because of programming. There’s hardware and software. The 50’s TVs were mostly hardware and too small so they couldn’t hold longer shows inside them. Aired four months before he was killed. Very sad.

My favorite role Hector played was the as hotel manager in Pretty Woman, although he's great in everything.

Hector Elizondo who plays Mr Salah played also the part of Monk's psychiatrist!!!
Still I wonder if the Lieutenant's presence was coincidence or indicative of the secret intelligence of Colombo and the LAPD.
