  • When Jessica came out as queer to their gay uncle, they were expecting a warm embrace. Instead, they were met with disapproval - so much so that they then sought out a different family - a queer family of choice.

I had a very disappointing situation when coming out as transgender. My mom told me “My behavior was dangerous for me” and that I was sick.

To be honest in some countries even just getting that response is a blessing. As a straight person, follow your heart not lust. You can only have so much in life.

This is very sad and disappointing. Unfortunately, even people within the LGBT+ community are capable of having negative attitudes in regards to sexual orientation and gender identity. This is something we definitely need to work on. 🏳️‍🌈

It is not just negative attitudes to the LGBT+ but also to religious sects, religion in general, race, and political affiliation. I don't understand how someone would want acceptance but won't accept others. I would be thrilled to have a gay/queer niece or nephew.

@@curnon69 That's very true. However, I think it makes sense to be critical of religion, as many religions are incredibly homophobic. For example, the Bible says that men who have sex with other men should be murdered.

Yes! We have enough hate coming from the outside, we don't need hate within our community too! Acceptance and Peace! 🏳️‍🌈✌️

There are a lot more bisexual women than man. I am gay, I have met many gay men but very few real bisexual men.

She's bi, who cares. If you spend more than a moment considering this as an issue, you are wasting your life. This was my moment.

Why do people have to know what we do in the privacy of our bedrooms? Why does anybody think it’s anyones business? When I talk to people I’m not thinking; “ gee, who are they sleeping with?” I’m straight hut when I meet LGBTQ people I judge them solely on how they treat others.

I agree with you, I think this comes from their desire to be acknowledged. My problem is these are all labels and labels turn sisters and brothers into others. Let’s all accept other humans!!

Based on some other comments, I think it may be some older LGBTQ* folks that have had issues adjusting to "queer" being a positive word that one would use to self-identify, etc. Of course the emotions they feel at hearing the term are very valid because they, no doubt, harken back to instances where that term was used by people to shame and ridicule them. At the same time, hopefully they can see the repurposing or reclaiming of "queer" as advancement for LGBTQ* folks. It's really a sign of progress that has been made that we can use the term today with pride rather than have it foisted onto us with hatred. Granted, I'm sure some still use the word queer derogatorily, including my dad by the way, but it has nonetheless indubitably become a badge of honor and pride.

I don’t buy into that and I will NEVER use the term queer!!! I simply can’t get past the fact that word is negative and I just can’t bring myself to refer to an entire group of people with a negative word. Also that concept simply makes no sense!!! I’m Jewish and wouldn’t even entertain the idea of referring to the Jewish people as kikes as a way to reclaim the term and repurpose it, it just doesn’t make any sense. The better choice is to use positive language.
But to each his own, I won’t use that term but have no control over what others do.

First of all the gay uncle was trying to understand her otherwise he wouldn’t have engaged her in conversation about what she shared he would have said okay and that would have been the end of it if he didn’t care about her.
Second in terms of her chosen family let’s see how committed they are when she gets sick and needs help… this poor individual is a bit delusional to actually think that those people are her family. I mean they may be “family” but when times get tough are they going to be there to help and support…?
Also I don’t understand what she means by she’s not gay and she’s not straight… what other choices are there besides bisexual. The uncle meant she needs to choose something otherwise she’s just floundering around lost.
But I’m glad she has found support!!

She shoukd understand why the gay parent is saying what he is saying.
The gay uncle didnt have a choice. If she had a choice then go normal.
I think she has a habit of overreacting and spoiled.
