  • On September 11, 1697, the Ottoman army is annihilated in the battle of Zenta by the imperial army led by Prince Eugene of Savoy, thus ending the steady rise of the Ottoman Empire over the previous centuries. The dominance of the Habsburgs is well documented, but the Ottoman Empire was a civilization that was no less developed and whose culture we know only little about.

Haseki sultanas rarely selected among other Turkish communities for your information: majority from Ukraine, Caucasian, Greece, Albanian, Serbian : the reason behind is preventing possible empowerment among the empire thus eliminating civil war among neighboring Turkish states. The reason Vienna was so important to conquer for the ottomans is because during Mehmed The Conquerors reign ottomans captured Constantinople and Mehmed declared himself the Kayser-i Rum, The emperor of Rome he had 2 reasons to claim that title, 1- Ottoman imperial family’s past marriages with Byzantine royal family and 2 obviously he conquered Constantinople the capital of East Rome and therefore ended the East Rome but he also conquered the Trebizond because Trebizond royal family was directly descendent of a past Roman family, the importance of Vienna became crucial in suleiman the magnificents reign because Charles V von Habsburg was claiming the title emperor, suleiman asked his closest friend and the grand vizier at the time Ibrahim pasha, what should I do to become undisputed emperor of Rome, Ibrahim said to him if you conquer Germany you’ll be the undisputed emperor of Rome, because of that reason suleiman beat Hungary in Mohacs and by just 2 hours of battle the Mighty Kingdom of Hungary was destroyed, after the conquest of Hungary he aimed for the Vienna, but due to weather conditions he lift the siege and turned back to Constantinople. Because he failed to take Vienna it became more important because sultans after him wanted to do what he couldn’t.

With all the lands and wealth and power they had they could have simply guided everything with all they had honestly become a strongggg powerful state n country but they loved war for some reason and always fought within themselves and the last few sultans took really stupid steps wrong ones.. making lose a lot of region too but turkey is stil big no problem but it would have bin bigger if they made it a fortress and concentrated more more in wiping out inner circle traitors it would have bin bigger but even tho they adbolished the monarchy rule and started a normal government they still respect and regard the ottans and thier lineage they are still royalty and wealthy in turkey 🇹🇷. The Turks with Sultan Mustafa came twice to besiege Vienna. Since in those days all of Vienna had catacombs the Viennese could go beyond the city walls to fetch water and plant potatoes. The Turks couldn't figure out why the Viennese would not capitulate. Prince Eugene and a Prussian army came in the nick of time to chase the Turks away. They left all of their belongings behind which still can be seen at the War museum in Vienna. If the Turks would have succeeded they would have overrun Europe and it would have become Islamic then. Vienna was the last wall of defense. It's for that reason that this success/win was so important and profound.

Balance of power in Europe now is a Chamberlainian pacifist illusion, foisted upon itself by Europe. Many of the women in the harem are not free but captives, yes they were highly educated compared to a commoner but mostly in Music, language and the arts. Even if they reverted to Islam, as they weren't Muslim before they will see be kept there
One doesn't become a haseki coz they had a prince, they become a xx sultan when they have had a prince, haseki is technically an imperial consort and oftern not a wife.
    Wife's weren't that common
Also hurrem sultan went against custom as not only did she married the sultan but bore more than one son but 4 which is unheard off as technically if a woman birthed a son, thst will be her only child as in the holy text, no woman can ever love a man than his mother... hence the title valade sultan is legit mother royal

@7:41 "... free women ..." pathetic turkish propaganda!
In general the efford put in this to portray the sultan' s harem similar to a european royal court is dangerously misleading.
@40:50 Actually the bathing culture has its roots in the Roman Empire. Turks discovered baths when they conquered the Byzantines.

hmm How do you expect it to happen to the Turkish Palace? If you are very curious, you can look at the internet right now how Turkish sultan women dress.
Just open google and search for this post.

'Bathing culture in Chinese literature can be traced back to the Shang dynasty (1600 - 1046 BCE), where Oracle bone inscriptions describes the people washing washing hair and body in bath, suggesting people paid attention to personal hygiene. What astrologer has influence on Sultan? Doesn't that haram? As a Shafiite muslim ustadz said that's forbidden, is this a mistake or different teaching from the Hanafite
