How To Make A Knife Sheath For an Old Hickory Butcher Knife - Part 2

- The biggest drawback to the Old Hickory Butcher Knife is it doesn't come with a sheath. So, I decided to figure out how to make a knife sheath for mine. I split the process into 3 videos to keep it form being too long. Part 2 shows how I sewed everything up with my Speedy Stitcher and how it turned out.

Happy Trails From The Maritimes In Canada ATB Terry
" GOD BLESS "
Hey Terry. Well, almost painless. It only hurts when I look at it.
Great job 4 a 1st. time,in my books
instead of a hole punch, would a small drill bit work to drill your holes? I have an axe that I am wanting to make a head cover for.
I'm sure it would, or even a nail. You cold probably just use the awl if you are careful.
first time making a sheath I think it turned out great, thanks for teaching
Thanks. I'll get the wet forming video up soon.
looking forward to it
Darn good video and great looking sheath . I have one of those sewing "devices" and can't use it correctly if my life depended on it !!!
Another great video Brian and Thanks again .
Great job man! That is going to serve you well.
It works way better than the sheath it came with ;-)
great job
Thanks Jerry.
Good work on the sheet, i think water forming only works on raw (unfinish leather) then you apply a tint.
We'll find out.
with a wood block and nail you could have punch your hole through the 3 layer and aligne it at the same time. Basically nail it to the board. then you remouve the nail and fix it temporarely. then sew it.
Yeah, I know. But I had that cool tool ;-) Maybe next time.
You ever try one made from a old plastic jug? I did and it's kind of ugly but works fairly good
Hmmm
Much easier to sew if you glue it all together first.
I have a lot to learn about leather work ;-)
I was just going to write that. I use a pick or drimel tool to make the holes.
Working with leather can be a pain in the butt, I got started in the Coast Guard around 1978, making leather stuff for our boats, like holders for the boat hooks. I then started making sheaths for myself and wound up making them for everyone else. Now I buy hides from Tandy Leather and still making sheaths for people and a couple of Knife Makers. I don't us the sewing thing you have, I use sail needless makes it s lot easier. my belt holder I cut it out with the case, cut it at an angle and sew it to the side of the sheath that way you don't cut the twine holding down the belt holder.
Sounds like a good idea on the belt loop. I didn't think about the chance of cutting the threads.
I've made a ton of sheaths for all my axes I've come a long way
Cool. One of my next projects is making a sheath for my new Cold Steel Trail Hawk. th-cam.com/video/AY2vxide5X4/w-d-xo.html
Buy the way good start on your first knife case!!
Thanks!
check out a 3 prong thonging tool. nice vid.
Tansey F That looks like something someone who knows what they are doing would use.
you did well bryan,
..bill
Thanks Bill.
My only advice would be to not leave that knife out in the open if you ever have contractors come into your house to do work. Contractors stole my Tramontina(!) machete and the sheath I made for it. So it doesn't matter how inexpensive the blade is, someone will swipe it, especially if you've put any time and work into it.
+CSharp of they were contractors you could just withhold the amount the items were worth for their final payment. I would discuss it with them first because we contractors don't like surprises like that.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose some contractors will do that, i had a subcontractor 4 monkey wards do some new plumbing and when he left so did my 5 gal bucket of scrap copper, homemade knife's and other assorted hand tool's. Naturally they denied it,, guess my cat took em and pawned em 2 buy catnip !!..😃😹👍..
@@tomcatt1824 tallying up the dollars in contractor theft over the years at my home would astonish most people! it's sad that people would rather steal from others than provide for themselves,,,
Kind of artificial kydex 😀
As opposed to "natural" kydex ;-)
Yep lol. The home grown kind. No fertilize or anything. He he
;-)
