Thank you for this detailed tutorial! After spending 3 tedious hours, I successfully replaced the back glass on my Pixel 8 Pro with [fingers crossed] no issues. Keep up the great work!
"I hope that google makes thing easier with the 9pro" Bro no way in hell is that happening. Google is so vehimently anti-repair the will say how good they are for providing parts and then do shit like this. They charge 200$ for the whole back assembly and make the glass as soft as an egg shell. It's absolute BS. I dropped my phone lest than a foot out off my lap at a table and it shattered.
We can only hope for the best lol. I also suspect that charging more to do this job will become asbsurd if the back is easy like the Pixel 7a and 8a. They might as well continue with this thing and even try to make it harder. I noticed that every year they tweak something to make it harder than the previous version 🤷🏽♂️. The new Pixel is coming sooner this year.
I gotta explain it to the best of my ability 🤷🏽♂️. Even then some people won't understand what's required because of this bs design that they finally abandoned with the Pixel 9's.
@ersbit - Can you take a look at the top rear glass on the Pixel 8 or 8 pro and do a quick video replacing it please? I have the Pixel 8 and it got very scratch and chipped in a recent drop. i've managed to find replacements on Aliexpress (I'll find out if this is good quality when it arrives), just need to understand what is behind it and is it safe to replace. Thx.
Exactly 1hr55mn from the raw video files. I was making sure to have everything in frame while recording etc that may take maybe 10 or 15 mn out of the total. I would say if never tried this 2 hours set aside would be good to take your time from start to finish.
Haha exactly....you see the back glass on Amazon it looks good and would think very easy to remove and replace but without knowing Google Pixel plans 🤣
@@ridmd6738 thank you. One week after doing this repair the screen stopped working with green screen issue. Wondered if it was something to do with that.
You can but you will damage the wireless nfc combo attach to the glass. Google Pixel 6 Back Glass Replacement Repair th-cam.com/video/IKbC-9vLRPU/w-d-xo.html This was my first attempt using heat (heatgun)it did not work. My second attempt was 6pro using heat plus the knowledge acquired from the first failure it also ended the same way. Then I had to thought of another way to do this. With the Pixel 8 Pro is the most refined and working solution that I found from my reflection and past experiences.
That's a very good question...I hope they watch my videos and at least look at the comments to see how people are feeling about this design. For sure going simple back design like Samsung would be welcomed.
@IsaacNewsome No...other manufacturers have achieved the same ip rating without such overengineeredBS 🤷🏽♂️. Pixel 7a and 8a have removable back like Samsung and I hope they make the 9 and 9 Pro the same.....we'll see soon.
they are more difficult for the back panel, but I do prefer the new design, replacing the screen is so much easier, and the battery is easy to change too.
They won't make money if they make it super easy and cheap to replace.....the part is cheap (less than $20) then what you have to do 😂 is either going to frustrate you or you will damage something. With the new 9s it's a lot easier now
Yes. Compared to iPhone it is very hard. At least with older iPhone you can easily break the glass without damaging the wireless charging coil. Here most people will damage it if they are not careful. Now Apple with the new back glass design is very easy compared to this Pixel 8 Pro design. Officially Pixel 8 Pro is the only one making extremely hard back glass design and very hard to replace indeed not supporting any repair friendly procedures or right to repair movement.
if only I had seen this video before removing my cracked rear glass and tearing off the NFC chip at the same time ... @ersbit, is there anything I can do at this point ? I don't see where I can buy the wireless charging / NFC circuit as a standalone piece, but I wouldn't know how to install it anyway - I was just curious..
Sorry to hear that...these videos should help or at least show what's gonna happen (failure). I would look on eBay for the parts either standalone like you want or full back and frame with it inside (this is the costly option). Then the replacement should be something problematic as you will need to remove the screen (if the screen is removed no damage you succeeded already) then proceed in removing all screws then remove the camera, motherboard, speakers and etc....make sure to disconnect all flex cables and antenna wire when you need it to remove the components. Then after removing the battery you will see the other end of the one that got damaged.

Let’s play a game. Take a shot for every time “broken back glass” is said.

does this glue retain the waterproofing?

Hi, I just bought one on ebay as I got at least 4 request for the top glass. I'll have it covered when I got it 👍🏽.
@@ersbit nice one. I look forward to it.
@@ersbit I've got the part for mine, just looking forward to your video so I know what I'm doing before I go at it.
Great. It should be easy not like the big back glass. Mine has not arrived yet. Maybe this weekend I will have it and do the repair tuto.
@@ersbit Definitely looking forward to this second video! Thanks :)
I have a regular Pixel 8, do you think it would be the same process?
I would assume it is the same thing. Pixel 6 and 6 Pro was the same ( I did those).
How many hours did it take you, start to finish?
Exactly 1hr55mn from the raw video files. I was making sure to have everything in frame while recording etc that may take maybe 10 or 15 mn out of the total. I would say if never tried this 2 hours set aside would be good to take your time from start to finish.

What is the extra piece of foil below the coil - it is very thin. Is it needed. I tore mine.
graphite tape for heat transfer... tearing is alright

Se me rompio la tapa trasera pero la parte superior, sabes que tan difícil sera cambiarla?
Should be easier

Where can i buy the back glass?
Hi, sorry I forgot to tell in the video. I have the link to everything in the description. The back was bought from Amazon.
Is there any reason that we can't use a hair dryer to melt the glue? Rather than cracking everything off with a knife?
You can but you will damage the wireless nfc combo attach to the glass.

why don't they just make the back glass like samsung... would be so much easier
It's because you don't like Italian food, Sameer. If you only liked it, none of us would have to suffer an impossibly difficult back glass repair.
That's a very good question...I hope they watch my videos and at least look at the comments to see how people are feeling about this design. For sure going simple back design like Samsung would be welcomed.
🤣🤣 why whyyyyyyyyyyyy whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Samsung uses a cheap cover covered with glass, which doesn't look premium. Apple and Pixel using 100% glass
why u didnt disconnect wireless charger
Simply because it can be disconnected only if you disassemble the phone start by removing the screen
and can use hot air too instead of alcohol
It will not work. Check my earlier videos on Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 you'll understand
They should have just made it snap off so we can swap the battery... Put the sim back there too. Old designs are better.
Hahaha 🤞🏽maybe EU will force them soon if not they dont care
I'm assuming IP ratings are the real culprit inhibiting this.

@@ersbit Samsung and the pixels a line don't have removable backs 🤣
Great job bro👍 awful construction, the coil should not have been hlued to the glass...
Thanks for the view! Exactly it will even save them cost by not adding glue/tape on top of the wireless nfc circuit.
Oh my... I bought the replacement, but now I know I'm not gonna make it if I do it myself 😢
😅 Google doesn't like simplicity
This just sucks. Why can't they make phones more easy and cheap to repair

The amazon images dont show the correct G logo for google. Was yours like this as well and still came with the correct logo?
And people say think that google is pro repair and apple is anti repair. This back glass replacement was super hard compared to iPhones
