    Oh my goodness! You just made me laugh out loud. “The only problem is this hat leaves 1x1 ribbing on my forehead.” Haven’t we all been there with so type of awkward FO issue?! 😅

      Hahaha. It’s not even THAT tight! Maybe it’s the yarn? Who knows 😆

    Great video! About the tip your coworker gave you, I do something similar and it actually produces an even rib, but the difference is (when in the round) you purl clockwise through the back loop on every round, not through the front loop as you normally would. This is the only way I've been able to get normal looking rib :D

    I totally get your struggle with uneven ribbing. Recently I tried to fix my purl tention with wrapping the yarn the other way around, norwegian purl, changing the needle size... You name it. I'm so frustrated at this point. I think I sometimes overcorrected and had the opposite problem... Right now I'm just taking a break from purling, I don't want to stress about it further 😂

    21:25 I knit continental so I purl the Norwegian purl. That may help you with ribbing. Changing your needle tips might help but trying the Norwegian purl may also help too, since you keep the yarn in back all the time when going from knit to purls. I also really dislike knitting ribbing as well so I understand exactly how you feel about ribbing.
    I love your knits but your yarn choice of speckled yarn is not what I would choose. But I still enjoy watching your videos for inspiration. I’m starting to get tempted to try a speckled yarn in the future.
    31:07 I love your Kerr sweater swatch! I’m excited to see you do a Rebecca Clow sweater. I’ve cast on her stick season sweater but the Kerr is still on my list. I also want to knit whatever her new color design that she’s working on right now is.
    33:19 if your other plötulopi was still wrapped in it’s packaging, I would leave them in that until you knit with it. It is very easy to break. It’s also not easy to travel with but I currently am traveling with mine because I am in a hotel for work for a month and I’m knitting a halibut sweater by Caitlin Hunter for the KAL I’m currently knitting.

    Hi from the Netherlands! I really love your podcasts and style 👏 what helps me in 2x2 ribbing is knit the purl , but before you let it off your needle, give an extra firm tuck on the yarn and then let it off. That way it tightens that knit stitch before the purl. Currently working on a Kilometre scarf (in cashmere, just wanted a plain classic scarf) that is taking áges, a Karl Johan sweater by KFO (but starting with 18cm of ribbing on small circumference is not a motivating start) and looking at my Cumulus blouse in Camarose Midnatssol, which yarn i love and keep touching and smelling (yup) but having real tension issues with 🤷‍♀️

    A possible solution to the 1×1 rib hat situation, could you sew a stripe of fleece or other fabric of your choosing to the inside of the hat? I find when you don't fix those little things you forget to grab that item on the appropriate occasion you are saving it for.

    I finally finished one of my fingering weight projects and it was the square neck camisole in a lilac color. It also has 3 by 3 ribbing all over, so it is similar to your Hazel sweater and I really lost motivation the longer I worked on it. Blocking did wonders to it and now it is my favorite finished piece and I am glad that I pushed through😍 Since I finished that one I treated myself to finally casting on my Wednesday sweater and the fabric is turning out so beautiful. I am using a pebble pink merino wool from Westwool and a suri from Olivia&Oliver fibers in „pink lake“. The blue specks almost make it look like watercolors and I am so in love with it. You should totally check out her more speckled suri options, I think you would really enjoy those!😊
    I love your new green hat! The cool hues in the green suit you even better ☺️

    How exciting that you bought Vidde! It’s one of my favourite yarns - it’s gorgeous to knit with and softens a lot in the first wash. Also it has the same gauge as Double Sunday + a silk mohair, so can be used for the Champagne cardi and some of Petiteknits’ hats, for instance. 👌🏻💖

    I think you’re onto something with the shorter needle tips for the tensioning issues. I find that I don’t have an issue with hats either (short tips) but really struggled with the ribbing of the yoke in my Sunday Sweater- I’m past it now and already reknit twice- so it’s staying as is 😂. BUT next time I will be using my short tips for yoke/sweater ribbing. 22:23

    It is actually not your knit stitch in the double ribbing which is the problem. This happens when the purl stitch is too loose! Try to really pull the loop before purling it, and also purl a bit tighter. This is normally not a problem when knitting continental style because of the natural pulling and stretching of the purl stitch 🙌🏼 It happens more often when knitting english style

    The uneven 2x2 rib: I had this same issue with a couple 1x1 ribbed hats that I had knit and did a lot of reading. For me, I narrowed it down to the yarn. Apparently if there’s something wrong with the twist in the yarn, it’s really hard to get a nice even fabric. I haven’t had this problem anywhere else, and was not able to fix it despite lots of research. Could it be the yarn?

    Maybe a silly question, but if you don't swatch, and use a different yarn than suggested in the pattern, how do you go about it? Do you just pick a yarn in the same weight, choose a size, and hope for the best? Haha I'm new to knitting and I also hate swatching... But scared to invest hours into a sweater that fits horribly!

    • @truelaneknits
      @truelaneknits  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not a silly question at all because swatching is of course HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! But yes, that’s exactly what I do. I don’t knit tightly or loosely, plus most of the time I make oversized garments. However, I also don’t share your fear of having a garment that doesn’t fit 😅 I just like knitting and if the finished product doesn’t fit how I envisioned, it doesn’t really bother me because I’m already onto my next project hahaha 🧶🧡
