- How To Create PIN in Messenger | End-to-end Encrypted Chat Pin Code | Change or Reset PIN Password
In this short video tutorial, I will show you how to create or reset an end-to-end encryption PIN password in Messenger. Just watch this video till the end.

Security and privacy are our top priorities, so let's dive in and learn how to protect your messages with a PIN code.

But before we get into the details, let's quickly understand what a PIN code is in Messenger's end-to-end encryption.
A PIN code in Messenger's end-to-end encryption is a unique 6-digit password that you create to safeguard your encrypted messages. It serves as an additional layer of security and is required to restore your old messages on a new mobile device or computer.
🔶Step-by-step process of creating or resetting your PIN🔶
1. First, open the Messenger app on your mobile device.
2. After that, tap on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Next, tap on the settings icon to open your Messenger profile.
4. Now, scroll down until you find 'Privacy and Safety' and tap on it.
5. From here, locate and tap on 'End-to-End Encrypted Chats'.
6. Now, you are in the end-to-end encrypted chat settings.
7. Next, tap on 'Message Storage' to access the PIN code options.
8. Under the 'Security Methods' section, you will find the option to 'Reset PIN and Generate 40-Character Code'.
9. For simplicity, I recommend using the PIN code, as it is easier to remember for future use. Simply tap on 'Reset PIN' to proceed.
10. If you cannot find the 'Reset PIN' option, it means you haven't enabled secure storage yet. In that case, tap on 'Secure Storage' and follow the prompts to enable it.
11. Once you have access to reset your PIN, you can set your new 6-digit password.
12. Enter your desired 6-digit PIN code.
13. Again confirm your PIN code by entering it once again.
You have successfully created or reset your end-to-end encryption PIN in Messenger. Now, your old messages are secure and can only be accessed with your 6-digit PIN code.

It sounds like you're experiencing issues with the PIN feature on Messenger, and it's causing some of your old chats to be deleted. To access those old chats that are end-to-end encrypted, you need to enter your old PIN on your new device. Otherwise, those old end-to-end encrypted chats might be lost.

The way I fixed it is from the same page under manage secure storage , click “turn off secure storage” and then create another one cuz if u don’t ur chats aren’t saved on cloud and might get lost. Turning it off doesn’t delete them.

I'm f#>& with this. I set a pin, and it does not accept it! It doesnt even recognize my phone as part of this privacy system. Other methods not work either, I dont recieve any code or pass, yet this stupid pin is constantly being asked and not accepted.... wtf????
You can't enable secure storage without a pin code it seems. So FB messed up again.

If you've never set a PIN for the secure storage feature in Messenger but are being prompted for one after an update, it can indeed be perplexing.
If you forget your PIN, you would reset it from the original device where you set it up initially. However, if the secure storage feature was never activated or utilized, and you're unable to recall setting a PIN, it does seem puzzling.

And then out of frustration I tried to guess the pin and i guess it. Maybe you set the pin like me and forget about it. Try to guess it.

Facebook fucked themselves by making their site needlessly complicated. I don't use it nearly as often as I once did.

Ive tried multiple times over a 2 day period, I enter my pin twice and then the blue circle spins for a minute then it says somethiing went wrong, try again. It wont let me access messenger without doing this but Im unable to do it because it just keeps telling me to try again.

Tried that. Also uninstall and reinstall.. if I've chats since end to end, it deletes those msgs and its back to the end to end date. Some are like a yr missing of info..
in realme c25y, the APPLOCK or even the SECURE STORAGE settings does not show any of them. please help!

No, creating a PIN in Messenger does not automatically delete messages older than 90 days.
Yay I lost my chats. I never created PIN code. But I have backup storage somewhere. So i tried to open it. But it requires a PIM code. That guess what? I dont have! And I dont have the option to reset it!

Currently, you are not able to create a new PIN using a laptop. You need to create the PIN using the mobile app and then you can use it on your laptop.

No, it's different. The PIN code you set up in Messenger is specifically for the app itself and is used to restore or access old chats on a new device. However, if you prefer, you can use the same PIN code for both Messenger and your phone password.

You can reset the PIN even if you've forgotten it by resetting it with a new device. However, please note that resetting the PIN won't retrieve old chats that are end-to-end encrypted. @@damaxtit
