People love Italian food. That's it.
If you ask any non-Italian about their greatest painters, composers, singers, writers, inventors and movie makers they can't name a single one - or maybe Italian football players. And to be a bit cynic most modern day Italians would rather consume Hollywood culture, Japanese animes and American fashion trends than to maintain their own culture. Even the French who are so proud of themselves and their culture have began enforcing laws to protect them from "foreign influences".
And when I say that people only care about Italian food I don't have to prove it. Look at what most people talk about in the comments. What foods Italians eat or don't eat, and what Italian food others like.

My dear Mother in law, God rest her soul, nearly had a stroke when my then fiance told her I broke the pasta when putting it into boiling water AND I also chopped it up with my fork while eating it! You would've thought I killed the Pope.. haha After that I've never snapped that handful of pasta before tossing it in the pot to cook and I've NEVER EVER CHOPPED UP MY PASTA WITH A FORK ON MY PLATE! Pierpaolo, a suo tempo anch'io avevo messo in dubbio la validità del principio del colpo di freddo, perché non trovavo un nesso causale tra freddo = malanno. Così mi sono detta "fuck the police, mo' esco coi capelli bagnati tanto cosa vuoi che succeda". Il giorno dopo avevo la febbre. Idem dicasi per tutte le volte che a) non mi sono vestita abbastanza, b) ho mantenuto la mia postazione a dispetto degli spifferi, c) ho sopravvalutato la mia capacità termoregolatoria in fase digestiva. Perché a quanto pare la scienza ha ammesso che, se pure il freddo di per sé non ti fa ammalare, prendendo freddo nel tuo corpo diminuisce la capacità delle difese immunitarie a far fronte a possibili infezioni in corso. Ergo, cose che normalmente non ti farebbero ammalare, nel momento in cui ti raffreddi ti fregano. Quindi guarda un po', le mamme avevano ragione.

Guys please stop thinking italy is only good food. We have the highest number of UNESCO world heritage sites. We have 3000 years of history and art, for example the Roman empire, the Italian reinassance and baroque (with artists like Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio) and don’t forget an Italian explorer discovered America, and America is called like that thanks to Amerigo Vespucci. We are not only good food and mafia.

So I’m Italian and I’m currently living in Canada, I met a Canadian family that was always drinking milk, just cold white milk, anytime they were having spaghetti 😨 Their explanation was that milk was “killing” the acidity of the tomato sauce. Sergioptimus Prime i totally get this but you know since the original pizza was created people from other countries modificate it like you now put ananas on it or Nutella so ketchup is not the worst option. I was raised on pizza with souses but when I went to Italy and eat really good pizza I stopped using it but in my country pizza is not so good and sometimes need improvement

I am blonde, and Italian. At least 1/4 of my friends have blue or gray eyes, and we definitely look alike europeans. Obviously it depends from the Italian region, but trust me when I tell you a Swiss and Milanese look the same. In Apulia (my father origins) they look like Greeks instead (From Crete, Rhodes or Naxos islands generally).
We do queues, actually, and it drives me crazy when people pass in front of me when I am in Spain and Portugal, in Naples they very much don't know how to drive, but from Rome on we certainly drive better than other europeans, in fact I actually think we are some of the best, the stereotype is just that, a stereotype. I've driven trough half of Europe, from Portugal, Spain and France, to Germany, Austria up to Latvia and Estonia.
Honesty... It depends, but we're certainly not the worst in Europe either. If a price is set, it is set, no bargaining (if you know what I mean).
We speak loudly yes. But you never been in Portugal. And we do drink a lot of coffee, good coffee however, wherever you'r from (Portuguese have ok coffee too... but it depends).
As for treatment of employees... how fu***g dare you. Yes, we do have exploitation, especially of immigrants, in agriculture for example, but that is the entire world, very illegal, and highly disgraceful. We have a very high minimum wage (higher than Germany. Although it is actually a problem, maximum prices...), and very strict laws (too strict maybe).
I advise you to learn English, and maybe come to Italy, see what we are like. From Rome, to Milan, to Bologna, Ferrara, Mantova and Verona and even Naples (which as an Italian I love), although to be honest, I'd rather you not come.
P.S as for Arabian coffee. the beans are great, but you don't know how to cook it. That is why you end up with Shit coffee anyways.

In Italy "pepperoni" don't exist. There are peperoni (with one P) but are "peppers" (fruit of capsicum plant).

No one is 100% anything--as I said, both sides of my family have been in Italy since the 11th Century--surprise, surprise. I was born in Italy---I have Italian, Sephardic, Germanic and Welch genes!! I thought I was 100% Italian. Oh, well!! None of us within the family is 100%. If you research through the ages, Italy, because of its location has been invaded a million and one times by everyone. So, no Italian is pure----No citizen of ANY country is pure. We all have roots scattered here and there🤗🙋
Hey there I am Irish American myself. And I love the Irish I think they are great. Ireland is my second country. I also love Italian Americans which I stated above. But unfortunately I have never had an opportunity to visit Italy. I know very little about Scotland and Scottish people. I don’t know why some people think that the Irish and Scottish are the same. They are not. Just like the Italians and the French are not the same.

No. Non lo chiamiamo espresso. Quello che fuori chiamano espresso, in Italia è un caffè. Vai in un bar e chiedi un caffè, ti fanno quello.
Per renderlo comprensibile anche per i non-italiani è corretto indicare espresso. Poi penso sia ovvio che per un italiano chiedere un espresso è abbastanza inusuale.

One thing I noticed while there is that Italians always put themselves together well when going out for whatever reason. They are NOT fashion slouches. You'll never really see a poorly dressed Italian. No pajamas outside the house!
I love my Italian heritage, even though I’m 3rd generation Italian American I love and respect my heritage. Me and my cousin Tony always kiss on the cheek when see each other. My grandpap kissed everyone. I miss him so much, he was an old school Italian American barber, he loved his family and his work, a solid amazing family man. I miss him so much...

@@nikosaurr Though it's probably exaggerated you should remind that our head takes up lots of calories and water evaporating actually takes away lots of heat from your body, hence your body has to use more energy to keep you warm so that less energy can be used to fight against viruses (which we all breath in and out basically on every breath). The fact with hair expecially is that they tend to stay wet longer than any other body parts.

Parents born in another country often learn their kids their native languages but those kids themselves rarely learn their children that language.
Besides, in the USA it is still considered rude to speak in any other language than English (just ask anybody speaking Spanish in public and they'll be approached by all kinds of people telling them to go home to Mexico) so the impetus to maintain the native language is small.
I'd say it's easier to be an Italian in Germany, France, Britain or virtually any European country because they won't be offended by hearing another language.

OMG! As a Portuguese woman, I must say that the rules you mentioned are very similar to some of the Portuguese rules. The kisses, the food (the salads, the three/four-courses meals, the amazing bread), our houses also have a bidet (not everyone uses it though), the digestivi ("digestivo" in Portuguese), the three hour rule to take a shower after the meals, the wet hair rule (mama knows best), the temperature change sensitivity and the drafts (I'm always looking for a place where I can be away from drafts) and we are always making fun of tourists wearing white socks (we don't like it). In what concerns pasta and pizza, the majority of the Portuguese people love Italian food and the way Italians do it.

Yvan Giovanetti When I went to my grandpa's on my dad's side family reunion (he is full Italian) one day we visited this lady and she kept on offering food (I love food so I couldn't argue) so I ended up with a salami sandwich, Coke, and some cookies. So whenever you enter an Italian's house expect food to be served/offered.

ok I'll answer all those question but one at a time: 1. usually the size of a normal plate of pasta is 100 grams, and if you want to have a second (like meat or fish) maybe even less (obviously generally speaking, a friend of mine eats something like 300 grams every meal); 2. You can eat as much bread as you want (and it's not in slices but you tear it apart with your own hands) but your mother would suggest to not eat too much or you're gonna ruin your appetite! ;) ; 3. italians eat sweets usually at breakfast (biscuits, cakes, cereals, brioches), maybe something after the main meals (for sure if it's an occasion) and during the afternoon during the break called "merenda" (another little meal that is there for the most part for children, but if you are used to it you probably bring it through your development....I mean, it's so good stop whatever you are doing in the middle of the afternoon to eat something). clear enough? :)

Alfredo, se non ricordo male, era un cuoco di Roma. Una sera si erano presentati dei clienti praticamente ad orario di chiusura e lui non aveva nulla di pronto da preparare all'infuori di spaghetti, burro e parmigiano. E quindi gli ha fatto la pasta al burro mantecata col parmigiano. Non scherzo, gli americani vanno matti per sta pasta Alfredo che io mangio solo quando sto poco bene e nn ho voglia di mangiare altro. Assurdo! 😂
Alfredo Di Lelio era un ristoratore Romano, ha cominciato a lavorare nel Ristorante di sua madre intorno al 1908 a Roma in Piazza Rosa (scomparsa per far via alla Galleria Colonna), e ne ha aperti e gestiti dei suoi fino agli anni '50. Il Ristorante fondato da lui, "Il Vero Alfredo" si trova tutt'oggi in Piazza Augusto Imperatore a Roma e viene gestito dai suoi discendenti.
Quella che gli Americani conoscono come "Alfredo Sauce" è un'evoluzione della pasta al burro e parmigiano, un modo di condire la pasta che si trovava già in manuali di cucina del XV secolo. Alfredo Di Lelio chiamò la sua variante inizialmente fettuccine al triplo burro e successivamente vennero note semplicemente come fettucine Alfredo.
La variante in vetro che si compra nei negozi Americani aggiunge panna e spesso uova e altri tipi di formaggio in aggiunta al parmigiano, questo da un risultato più costante ma anche più pesante, nella preparazione veloce in casa. In alcuni ristoranti si può trovare che seguono la ricetta originale fatta con solo burro e parmigiano.

Nessun attentato, la congestione è provocata dallo shock termico e non dal contatto con l'acqua. Per rischiare effettivamente dovresti mangiare una teglia di pasta al forno rovente, rosolarti ben bene al sole di ferragosto per poi buttarti nell'acqua gelida con un tuffo a bomba...(in pratica quello che fanno gran parte degli italiani al mare, se fosse così facile dovremmo essere decimati).

it's not true. in Abruzzo, expecially in the area of Teramo city and province, spaghetti with meatballs (most typically small meatballs named "pallottine", but sometimes average sized ones) IS A VERY TRADITIONAL DISH.
but not so common as they think! i NEVER eat that dish in my life...

There are SO many common things to Spain. People being obsessed with cleaning (and therefore freaking out in Northern countries where they are si laid back at this) and also the important of ingredients and the process of a meal haha ALSO when parents tell their kids 'don't go into the water after lunch or you would get a "corte de digestión"' which basically means you will feel the most horrible things! haha you are our Mediterranean siblings!

Hi🇧🇷. Whilst hearing you speaking about Italians I automatically thought of Brazilians, relying on the fact that everything you said is relatable. Last year I had the chance to chat with a British man from England who spent some time in the city in which I live here in Brazil, and he told my friends and I that he thought that Brazil and Italy were quite similar in terms of culture as well as behaviour in socialisations, emphasising that we both Italians and Brazilians were quite passionate in various aspects. My friends and I chatted with this British man in a bakery/cafe and he pointed out that we were, in fact, considerably loud in cafes, restaurants, etc. after we told him to be honest towards us when it comes to his experiences in Brazil. Moving forward, this year I started chatting with an Italian man who is fluent in English and is learning Brazilian Portuguese, and whenever we interact I feel that we are already very close haha. Perharps I have this homely feeling when I think about Italy due to the Romance languages, and due to the particularities that Brazil absorbed from the Italian immigrants that moved to Brazil in the 19th century. As an example, here in Brazil it's common to hear people saying 'tchau' in the territory in its entirety, which is a word that has the same meaning and usage of 'ciao'. Going towards food, Brazil was graced with pizza 💖💖💖💖

Brazilians affections and smiliness is to be agreeable and show acceptance as a social lubrication due to the vast racial mixture. It brings people together and shows acceptance. There are so many recipes with pasta and it's a rally great, simple and easy to prepare food, you can use a lot of ingredients (vegetables, legumes, cheese, fish, meat...) just need to follow some simple rules and put love in what you are doing. Ah, la storia degli spaghetti con le polpette è un equivoco risalente ai primi immigrati italiani negli States, quando i lavoratori per tradizione si portavano il "baracchino" da casa con il pasto caldo. Pare che qualcuno abbia fatto un mischione tra primo e secondo e che la cosa abbia preso piede :-) Resta il fatto che la pizza col pollo è, come disse Fantozzi, "una cag*ta pazzesca"!

Questa cosa è nata quasi certamente a New York, o comunque da quelle parti, nella costa est, la più popolata di italiani da quando c'è stato il grande flusso migratorio.
Per farla breve, comunque, sono ricette che non hanno quasi mai niente a che fare con la nostra cucina... sono italo-americane (sempre più americane che italo..)
Infatti i piatti, le tradizioni, gli stereotipi che gli americani associano agli italiani, provengono dalla Calabria, dalla Campania, dalla Sicilia, dalla Puglia degli inizi del secolo scorso, non proprio dall'Italia, e comunque non da quella attuale.
I piatti "alla Alfredo" sono talmente conosciuti in America che un turista americano poco informato può chiederlo in un ristorante italiano convinto di andare sul sicuro... Invece qui è praticamente inesistente.

Antoher stereotype. Italian cusine DOES NOT use a lot of garlic!!! Americans think that Italian cusine is based on garlic but it is the biggest misconseption. We use it very moderately, often we don't even chopp the garlic for not being too strong, and we remove it once the entire clove has given a bit of taste. Moreover, garlic bread is NOT italian!!!! That is disgusting for us because the garlic in it is burned and this is simply disgusting.

In the center and in the south of Italy garlic and onion is the base for a lot of pasta condiment. Amatriciana and Gricia has a base of garlic sauteèd! Fish sauce ha always a garlic saiteéd too. We have garlic also in vegetables condiments like in chicory where we use sauteéd garlic with chili pepper! But also garlic, parsley, olive oil and lemon is typical for other boiled vegetables. Onion is used in vegetables too like salad (Tropea Onion) and more others.
Maybe you are from the north of Italy where garlic and onions are not used so much in your cuisine. But here in Rome I can not cook without garlic and onion!
oh... and don't forget about "bruschetta", we use tu rub a slice of garlic on tasted bread and then add tomatoes, salt and olive oil.

the most healthy and one of the strongest garlics, anyways, my point, we spaniards like strong flavours more than italians, italian cousine is a softer one, they are both the best cousines in the world, we just have different aproaches to the mediterranean diet.
p.d: if you are ever coming to spain, try this, no tourist is really told about this plate, but its the best one :D

I know, for a foreigner it might look like its a paella, but trust me, this is way better, its a paella that keeps the "soup" of the seafood, defenetly try it (only in coast reagions of Spain or in Madrid)
