    Glad to know that the Gel-Nimbus 26 middlesole is a little less ultra soft so the shoes can be more versatile. The Asics Gel-Nimbus 25 was the most comfortable shoes I ran last year ,but the extreme softness of the foam made these them my slowest shoes I had in 2023. For a comparison, later in the year I got the Nike invincible 3 that I also loved , but they had/have a very hard middlesole when compared to the Gel-Nimbus 25 . Anyways, I'm trying to find a max cushioning, for me, that is more of a middle ground between the Nimbus and the Invincible 3 ( a bit too fast this one) and the NB 1080 V 13 was not a fast shoes that I thought it would be, but they are definitely a bit less clunky them the slow motion running feeling of the Gel-Nimbus 25 gave me.

    I have the Nimbus stability cousin, Kayano 30. For me, the Kayano 30 are nowhere near squishy for a sole that thick. I don’t know if it’s because of the added stability profile or other factors. And it’s pretty heavy, too. Bought another shoes for my daily run, Hoka Rincon 3. Very light, yet surprisingly more squishy than the Kayano 30. Although sadly not stable enough for my overpronating flat feet.

    • @ielle.
      @ielle. ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the brand too. Like Saucony, there was no point buying a Ride 16 when the Ride 15 was the exact same shoe with a slightly inferior upper, so unless the upper was a nightmare for you, what's the point? At least in the 17 they've made significant changes increasing the stack and using an entirely different midsole. Whether you end up loving it or hating it, at least it's different enough to distinguish itself from previous models and justify any decision to buy the newest version. It depends on the brand and model, how significant the changes are, for sure.

    Just a general comment: I never understood why shoe companies never state the best use-case for their shoes. Sure, they categorise whether it's neutral or stability shoe, but they never state (on the box) each shoe as either best for daily-training, or tempo, or max-cushion, etc.
    I find it odd that they leave this kind of critical information out. What are your thoughts on this, Kofuzi?

    • @ielle.
      @ielle. ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Working in running specialty, I have an educated guess as to why. If you get too specific with the use-case the only thing you can potentially do is pigeon-hole your shoe into a narrow category and lose the sale. When customers come to us, we ask them questions and based on the feedback genuinely try to match them with the best shoes for the uses they describe, but if a customer comes in looking very specifically for a particular model and asks us if it can do such and such, as long as it isn't a terrible fit for the intended use, we're not going to talk them out of it just because we might have a shoe we personally like better for what they describe. You want the Clifton for daily training but want to mix in some tempo runs occasionally? I'd reach for the Novablast myself, but I'm not going to tell you you're wrong to want to use the Clifton that way. If you listened to my preferences, you might hate the Novablast for the same use.
      Look at the Endorphin Speed, for instance. The midfoot and heel platform was really narrow on the first 2 versions, and so for some people it was strictly a speed-work and budget racer, often heel strikers or people who have fairly significant stability needs. It's not a shoe they can use as a daily trainer. For others, the Endorphin Speed series has been a daily training dream come true. There are people who, despite the stability improvements on the 3s, still cannot use it as anything but a speed work shoe, and others who've found the changes actually knocked it out of race day consideration. Why as a brand would you pigeon-hole your shoes when everyone knows YMMV? At least with surface (road/trail) and gait type (neutral/stability) these are more predictable than how a person will perceive the shoe and which types of runs they'll like them for.
      Most of the time that people are looking at these shoes in-person there's a run specialty employee, usually a runner themselves, who can walk them through it. Whether the Endorphin Speed would work as a daily trainer for somebody is a matter of asking them questions and getting to understand their running experience. How could you, if you're Saucony, put "daily trainer" or "tempo shoe" on the box as some universal standard for your shoes when you don't know the specifics of the person looking at them? All you can really do is note what type of running the shoes were designed with in mind, which is often what brands do on their product pages on their sites for customers who are looking online instead of in run specialty stores.
      You'd also be surprised how individual "max cushion" can be perceived, even though you'd think that a significant difference in the listed stack heights would be nearly universally felt in favor of the more highly stacked shoe. We regularly get customers who think that a much lower stack is more cushioned than shoes that we'd consider max cushion. We've had at least a couple of customers tell us how the 860v13 feels "more cushioned" than the Gel-Kayano 30, for example, or how the Ghost feels more cushioned than the Clifton. This usually just means that a shoe is more comfortable to the customer, and who are we to argue with comfort? We don't tell them they're wrong unless they ask if it's actually more cushioned.

    • @ielle.
      @ielle. ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adding to my point about density, keep in mind that it's not the Nimbus 26, but the Gel-Nimbus 26. That gel adds a lot of density, and the point of density is to "absorb shock" (a marketing-friendly way of saying it deadens impact) which comes at the expense of energy return (less energy is being loaded through the natural spring of your achilles and returned to the leg). The much airier Novablast has significantly more energy return despite being the same midsole and stack height. The Novablast is an extremely versatile shoe, but if you need to shuffle and really spare the legs, those true recovery days, that's where the Gel-Nimbus 26 will come in. Sounds like it'll be a bit more versatile than just this, but this is the main difference.

    My experience, 5'9" 180 lbs. I have flat feet and need a touch of stability, but most stability shoes feel super clunky. The nimbus 25 was a good shoe, but after about 30-45 minutes on feet I started to have a little bit of pain in the arches of my feet. Other than that it was great. The nimbus 26 is just a touch firmer, but still pillowy soft with some pop, but it's also about 3 mm wider in the midfoot and in the heel. This gives just a touch more stability and took care of the pain I was experiencing in my arches. Also, the midfoot and heel lockdown is much better. I recommend spending the extra and get the Nimbus 26 over the 25.

    The Nimbus 25 is still $180 on sale from $209 in Canada. I have a lot of shoes to kill at the moment, but hoping to find them at a better price when it’s time for new shoes. Will probably replace my Clifton 9s with Nimbus 25s in the spring.

    Why would you pick this shoe as a forefoot runner? It's heavy and 8mm drop means that more foam is in the heel than the area you are landing on which means that you have to carry more shoe than needed. Triumph has even higher drop and if you need bouncier shoe, you could always get something speedier, lighter and even more bouncy instead.
    I wish there were more details on breathability. I'll have to wait for Aussies to test the new version to see if it still is an oven for most of the year.
    I have low instep, normal width feet and I couldn't get a good fit. My big toe would rub on the medial internal lip and changing sizing didn't fix it. Are there any changes to the new model that could fix that?

    I have been running for 2 years now with 1:45 HM and 19:56 5K PBs. I started with velocity nitro 2 then deviate nitro 2 as racing shoe. I am targeting sub 90 HM. I am thinking about a pair affordable carbon plate racing shoes. Rocket X is now available in India at ~ 85 USD. Is this going to be a good option, even though it’s an older model?

    • @ielle.
      @ielle. ปีที่แล้ว

      The X2 has a PEBA foam and is a much more well-liked shoe. If you're looking for a budget carbon plated shoe you could look into the ASICS Magic Speed 3 ($160) though note that the plate is a little more flexible/less aggressive than some of the super shoes and it does not use a super foam (FF Blast+ is still nice and it's what they've used in the Novablast which has decent pop, but it isn't FF Turbo which is why it's available at a budget price). The consensus on the Magic Speed 3 seems to be that people like it for up to half marathons.
      The other options are going for an older model or tbh the Endorphin Speed 3 with its nylon plate could be enough, and they're comfy over distance. A lot of these super shoes make very marginal differences for those of us who aren't elite and not hitting the target pace ranges that the shoes were designed for.

      2,255 km on my NIKE Zoom Fly Flyknit, just did a 12K run in them this morning. Legs feel fine, 82 kg , 42 YO runner. The React foam made some unusually durable synergy with the carbon plate, plus upper and outsole show no sign of wear to this day! I don't usually get that much mileage out of a shoe, i.e. the Numbus models get to 1,300-1,500 km before they start killing my legs. OG race flats last me 700-1,000 km before retirement. But 700 km on a Nimbus...man, to me they are brand new & feel mint and extra squishy at that point!@@kofuzi

    If the Nimbus 26 is becoming a daily trainer, where does the Novablast 4 fit in?

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm not sure the Nimbus is going to go the full direction of the 1080, but even if it were, I'd say that the novablast 4 is still the novablast 4. I don't think the two shoes are dovetailed. Maybe the Cumulus and the Nimbus are more related. But the Novablast kind of sits out there by itself. A substantial change to the Superblast might cause me to question what corollary changes might be getting pushed to the Novablast. But the Nimbus doesn't do that in my mind.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      a bit, but depending on where it is very narrow and squeezes your foot (on top of the foot, at the ankle, across the toes?), it may be something that can be resolved with adjusting lacing. but ultimately, if what you're really asking me is if you should exchange it, exchange it for a bigger size. this shoe also comes in a wide.
      when it comes to sizing, don't overthink it. my general recommendation is that a slightly big shoe is less unsatisfactory than a slightly small shoe.

    How many kilometers should I run to test the new Nimbus 26?
    For easy runs and long runs with the Nimbus 25, I've covered over 700 kilometers, and I'll take them to 800. They are still in good condition with an indestructible tread! I've rotate them with the Hoka Clifton 9, which have reached the end of their life at 700 kilometers...

  • @HugoParedes
    @HugoParedes ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe it’s because of my weight (around 220) or my easy run pace (around 9:40), but I found the 25 very hard. I’d often end up my long runs (2h+) with aches in my knee and lower foot.
    I found the Deviate Nitro 2, that I used for everything, to be more comfortable.
    I think the pace is also important. For @Kozufi an easy pace might be my marathon or half marathon pace, and it makes a big difference.

    How would you compare this to the Novablast? If this is leaning into the daily trainer category, wouldn’t the Novablast be a comparable option at just a slightly cheaper price point?

    • @ielle.
      @ielle. ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keep in mind that the Novablast is still significantly lighter (we're talking roughly 1.5oz) in part because its midsole is much less dense (the biggest difference you'll feel trying both on despite both being FF Blast+ eco) and more rockered than the Nimbus. The Novablast is a max cush daily trainer that leans into the tempo category even if it's still more of a daily trainer. Nobody is going to mistake the newest Nimbus for a shoe with the pace versatility that the Novablast has. The Nimbus is very much still going to be a cruiser.
      The density of the foam plays a key role in the difference. A comparison would be how the Ride 17's upgrade to PWRRUN+ makes it nearly identical to the Triumph 21 (22 will be getting PB) on paper, but the Ride 17 still feels more versatile in pace due to its PWRRUN+ midsole being less dense than the Triumph's, despite the shoes being nearly identical in weight. The slightly lower drop (8mm vs. the Triumph's 10mm which tbh feels even higher than 10) makes it easier to increase cadence, as higher drop shoes tend to induce a slower foot switch. The Nimbus to me, at least in the 25s, very much felt like an 8mm drop, and though the Novas are listed at 8mm, they feel slightly lower the way that 6mm usually feels to me.

    • @kofuzi
      @kofuzi  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I may be operating on outdated information, but I've always understood shin splints as a matter of fitness. like, it happens when increase volume too much, too soon. and you're body needs a chance to catch up. the remedy is basically time and Advil. (reminder, this is what I learned in the 90s).
      some shoes that are softer can help, but I probably wouldn't pick a shoe based on the condition. I'd perhaps search out softer surfaces to run on. like, if you normally run on concrete, look for blacktop/tarmac. or if you normally run on tarmac, look for gravel, dirt roads, or grass.
      and then, also consider Advil.
      as far as your shoe specific question, the Nimbus is a neutral shoe. the Kayano is a stability shoe. unless you need stability, I would advise against it.
