Thank you Mr Dave Engel for you're thought and consideration in posting ALL the beautiful scenery shots of the fantastic USA Montana countryside.
Its a joy to see that this part of America is un-spoiled and in original condition, just like the work on your wagon projects.
To me its all driven by your "no-compromise" Mennonite way of working.
Well done and good luck, you're an example to us all.

Let's see, you take a wagon that is unsafe for use and turn it into an enjoyable means of transportation for a family. Then in a river valley you zoom in on the details that make a place worth remembering. Well done sir.

20 some years ago this Yankee worked a harvest crew out of Kansas. We got into the Hardin and great falls areas. I always remember the view around Carter ferry near great falls as very scenic. Your ending on this video reminded me of those views but much better. Sometimes wish I wouldn't have come home after the season was over!

Thank you for both the video of your work and the view of what few people ever get to see.

Thanks Dave for the Clarks Fork tour, this Wisconsin flat lander sure enjoys mountain scenery. By the way, thanks also for the views of the International wagon. Since I grew up on the International Experimental Farm some miles west of Chicago I'm going to have to look up a lot more info about them. I saw lots of steel wagons for grain, hay racks, and general utility wagons. This cityfied kid sure had fun learning to back up 4 wheel wagons while working on an Uncles farm, some trick. Thanks again and sure enjoy watching your "wagon works" Jim Martin

I so enjoy watching your work activities. Thanks for the awesome views of the mountains and your wonderful videos.
I've skid logs with horses/mule teams and have had to make 'emergency replacement, quickly carved singletrees'. Just grabbed an axe, chopped an iron wood tree and some minor carving and said, "that'll do, I'll make a better one later"...lol. Do you think that time every came....no!...just forgot about it and moved on....until it dried out and shrunk (falling to the ground) or broke again...lol. Oh the olden days of life, how I gladly/pleasantly miss (some of) them....lol

  • @johnfoster3895

I have been watching your series (enjoying it all immensely). One thing that you have never touched on, is the cost of building.
A person was to walk into your shop and ask you to build a wagon from scratch (a wagon that would have been used to moved from the east to the west).
Could you incorporate, or possibly dedicate, a recording to the cost of a wagon; wood, metal, time, etc?
I understand the basis of wood working (my fingers get out of the way of a hammer most times), but could never in my wildest dreams begin to do what you do here.
I've had my father watch your series as well. I always thought that he knew most everything about woodworking, but he has come away from his computer or tablet with a very wide eyed expression. Thank you for your series and I hope that this tradition and knowledge is never lost.

Mr. Engels, one of the other commenters asked about an Engels wagon. That sounds like a really good idea. With all your past experience, I suspect you could make a really great wagon with your own traditional style. Maybe you could ask your blacksmithing daughter to create some special forged parts that are functional and stylish. What do you think?

Well Mr. Dave, you were doing OK with what you had to work with, but then you had to Finnish with The Clark Fork !!! You just had to make my little hart go pitter patter an rub it in ( I loved it ). The other thing I observed was the the black iron that was with the wagon ( I do not know what it was called ) was in fact nothing more then the tow bar set up that was part of a standard tow set up used on all the 1940's FLAT fender Jeeps, that I rebuild.!!! Once again, have a good one. RA

I love American History, especially regarding the migration from east to west. I often wonder how it would feel to explore and see this country before others arrived. In your case, Bozeman and Bridger trails cutting through. I once took a couple weeks following the Oregon Trail from Salt Lake City to the coast, stopping at all the museum sites and reading everything I could find on travelers diary logs to stats on travel speed, miles per day, deaths per mile, etc ...
One thing I found surprising was the fact that everyone bought rifles to make the trip and many got excited when approached by native tribesmen. So much so that, in the case of the Henry Rifle (1860 - 1866 ... but used by the Sioux as late as 1876 to defeat Custer) they would grab the barrel of the gun from the back of the wagon and shoot themselves dead when the trigger got caught on something while being dragged out.
I guess they levered a round in the chamber for traveling and quick response ? Amazing !!
Do you have museums and historical sites all around you there ? I've worked in 47 states but missed Montana , Alaska & Hawaii. :( And Montana was a state I always wanted to visit.
Thanks for the video. I really enjoy them,
    sincerely ...................................

@@dianeengel4155 ... Thank you so much for your reply :) That is very interesting :) I knew Bozeman had some run ins w/ the tribes. It seems Bridger was more familiar w/ the terrain and local tribes and might have escaped some of the violence in cutting that trail, although he was a pretty interesting figure in our history of opening the west and had plenty of run ins w/ tribes as well :)
I will have to visit the area as a bucket list item before I go. I am so interested in what the people who settled the land and cut the trail had to say about the experience. I hope there will be plenty of artifacts, writings and museums to visit. :)
      Thanks again,
      Sincerely .....................................
