Oh that's not even on my radar. Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Costa Rica, but it's my absolute bottom pick out of the Central American options. CR doesn't give Nicaragua any competition for us. Not at all. Guatemala is a tough one to beat, but we think Nicaragua edged it out for us. Our five country short list is/was: Nicaragua, Spain, Guatemala, Italy and Romania. Likely contenders worth investigating: Argentina and El Salvador.
This is a good video topic, though, because so many people assume that Costa Rica was the "second choice" when in reality, I'm not sure it makes our top 30. It's certainly not a bad place. And I really like getting to visit. But to live, I'd take a risk on lots of places I've not been to in person yet above it. But, as an example, I prefer Bolivia for sure.
Did you get a lot of lake effect snow where you grew up ? Micro climates have always intrigued me. Are you aware of any micro climate phenomenon's in Nicaragua ?
SO much lake effect snow. I grew up at the very north end of Wyoming County in the Town of Covington. It was an epic snow zone. So much more than the cities got. Nicaragua definitely has "mini" climates, if not micro. But it's probably micro. It's crazy here. Chinandega is it's own animal. El Cruzero is insane because no matter where you approach it from it's a hot, sunny day and when you get there it's almost always a dark storm that you can't see until you are in it. It's really weird.
Too bad about the Rochester Toronto ferry. Ever go? I hear from American cousins that there is a good architecture in Rochester. An older cousin/uncle spent his career with Eastman Kodak. Being barely 50 I suppose you do not remember Irv Weinstein? Dave Thomas? Rocket Ship 7? All staples for Canadian and American kids who shared a common regional history in that area. A lot easier crossing the border back then.
Interesting to get a bit of your background. I have been curious. There has never been any doubt in my mind that you are a very busy person. Just putting up video content every day seems as though it would be a full-time job in itself. I have noticed that often times your content goes up after midnight, and I am thinking when does this guy sleep. Not only do you produce content, but you often respond to commenters. I almost hesitate to post a comment because know it will take up more of your time responding. But I know engagement is good for the algorithm. What seems ironic to me is that you have chosen to live in a country where the culture is very laid-back. I would classify your temperament as A++. I would think you would be pulling your hair out dealing with the “mañana” way of life.
That's an interesting point. But I really do like the laid back lifestyle in others. I don't have this "make everyone else work like crazy" mentality. But I've always got to be doing something. I think being in a laid back environments gives me more latitude to work more, to do more things, but to do so with less stress.
As a newer viewer I never assumed you were living off trust funds, haha what a weird assumption. Seemed pretty clear you were a working man supporting his family.
Just based off what I've heard from other TH-camrs, that if you don't upload on a regular basis, people stop watching your channel and will unsubscribe.

Honestly Scott, I can't imagine how you have the energy to do what you do! (And I've felt that way since we first met)
Autodidacticism seems to be a common quality to people that I find interesting. Your bio abstractly mirrors mine. I glad to have met you.
I’m still here for you, Scott don’t worry
jaja, thanks :) We lost a few, but I think we were discovered by a bit of a new audience, too.
Thanks Scott!! I was wondering why you chose to live in Nicaragua over Costa Rica
