Nicholas Berkeley "Nick" Mason (born 27 January 1944) is an English drummer and composer, best known for his work with Pink Floyd. He is the only constant member of the band since its formation in 1965. Despite solely writing only a few Pink Floyd songs, Mason has co-written some of Pink Floyd's most popular compositions such as "Echoes" and "Time".

Nick is an awesome drummer. At 4:44 one of his drumsticks flips out of his hand and he just picks up another one and keeps going without missing a beat.

One of the ten best rock bands ever. This is like the most visually mesmerizing and sonically intense instrumental rock song they ever created and i totally luv all those swirling shimmering cymbal crashes!
I've done myself a tremendous disservice. Until watching this video for the first time just a few minutes ago, I'd never really paid attention to watching Nick. I will NOT be making that mistake again. The man is a freakin' genius on drums. He 's so passionate and precise. His playing is pure artistry. He has all the timing of a jazz drummer, the power of a rock drummer, and the ability to conjure images as well as any classical performer, drummer or not. Yet another reason why I've been a Pink Floyd fan since I was a kid - yes, I was very much alive and old enough to have appreciated "Money" while it was a Top 40 hit, meaning I really am older than dirt.

I got insulted by a serious asshole that called me kid when he didn't even play drums in life. Guys the fact that you like someone and technical criticism are two separate facts. My classical guitar teacher, long ago, used to tell me that rock musicians suck because in studio they may record well but live they are bad players. Here the exception to that rule: they play superbly. Pink Floyd at best, when they left their blues-based roots and ventured into experimental music. Plus those drums and gong sound so good.

I find Nick Mason is the drummer i like actually watching drum more than anyone else. There's a fluidity and natural flow that i haven't seen in anyone else, i find it quite mesmerizing.

I bought Meddle when it first came out way back, still have it in the original sleeve. I'd play it on the old record player and rattle the roof... awesome! One night years later in the late '90's my kids were playing some god awful racket.. you know, painful stuff, so I asked them if they wanted to listen to something REAL. I hauled out the old 33 album, Meddle. The kids laughed "Dad.. that's plastic, that's antique stuff" When 'One of these days' ended they sat there with their mouths open, all they could say was "Hoolllyyy shit... who are those guys?" "Them's Pink Floyd, boys.. they play second fiddle to no man.. remember them"

I was fortunate enough to have been Nick Masons drum kit transporter on his SOS tour for a while last year, his gong was a bit cumbersome though.

If you have access to BBC4 I can't recommend or urge you enough to check out the astonishing pink Floyd programmes that show case the band from their extremely humble beginnings right through to 2005's reunion,the content of the band is unique and very special ....it will make you wonder how can I have lived so long without realising what I've been missing!!!, thanks for reading my post ..as usual any feedback either good or bad is truly appreciated.

Definitely one of the hardest hitters out there. You can hear the tone of the drums change towards the end. Those rack tom heads were getting dented. That stick drop pissed him off.

Every time I watch this version I can't help but feel that Nick didn't seem to enjoy himself at times. Almost like he was trying to get into the grove, but it just didn't feel right or something. Regardless such a killer song, and Live at Pompei is a superb watch.
