Laina/Overly Attached Girlfriend is my absolute favorite from all of them. Such a nice down to earth girl with genuine sense of humor and creativity that embraced the meme like a champ. I hope she's doing fine, it's always nice to see her when she posts something in her personal social media.
Also, I think it's fair for them to sell their meme as an overpriced NFT. They didn't necesarily wanted the attention they got and obviosly that always leads to mockery, bullying and harrasement of some type so probably was rough at some level for them. So yeah, if something they earned that NFT money.

I'm from Andalucía, the southern region of Spain, where El Risita lives. He was a total celebrity here when I was a child and I remember him being mentioned a lot. This was around late 2000s and early 2010s, and while he was still someone known here, his presence here was fading.
I am so happy that he just became viral worldwide out of nowhere during late 2010s because that reminded me of my childhood.
Extra info: The interviewer of that video is called Jesús Quintero, he was born in my city and he is quite famous in the Spanish media due to his works. Sadly, he also died recently

But now... I'm close to 30 and to be honest, I don't even know what a meme is anymore. Every funny video is branded a meme. Instagram meme pages are sharing literally anything people might be interested in. Are TikTok trends memes?
Everyone is just chasing clicks/views/likes/upvotes/followers/whatever bits of approval they can get, trying to go viral and becoming *insert social media page* famous.
And don't get me wrong, I spend an unhealthy amount of time consuming internet content, there are tons of amazing creators out there and I'm not against anyone giving it a shot. But I just feel like the whole internet has become a ratrace for the clout.
Plus there is so much hate and drama, but that's not really an internet problem...
It’s actually kinda surprising that a lot of these people weren’t really negatively affected by the memes of themselves. And some of them even profited off of them, that’s pretty good.

El risitas was an absolute legend in France, in the most famous forum in France his face and video clips were used as a way to express laughter or any other emotion that his face expressed at a point where almost every post on this forum had at least one risitas face emoticon or meme on it (even today) and that's how his popularity within the French nation helped to raise awareness and begin a crowdfunding for his scooter, as a French, i can tell this man will forever be in our hearts ♥️🇨🇵
for the most part this was kinda wholesome. the people that became a meme really made the best of it at the end. not everyone had a happy ending but overall id say it turned out okay. rip to el risitas making everyone smile and laugh. as long as we share that moment he will live on

When I was a freshman in college, I sat beside the "fuck ya chicken strips" guy in class. Fast forward to our junior year we were decent friends and he invited me to a party at his house. On the way there, I notified the group of friends I was walking there with about who he was and his vine fame. They all immediately freaked out and knew the vine, so when we got there I jokingly told him "My friends are big fans". About 20 minutes later, he pulls me aside and says alright I have a surprise for you guys, follow me. He pulled me and my group of friends away from the party and into his room where he did a full recreation of the vine. I have the video somewhere, but my friends were all going crazy. Good times. All around great guy, super funny.
