Two films from the Hughes and Douglas Aircraft Company are presented here. The first, "Seek Find and Kill", discusses the new Hawk missile. The Hughes AIM-4 Falcon was the first operational guided air-to-air missile of the United States Air Force. Development began in 1946; the weapon was first tested in 1949. The missile entered service with the USAF in 1956. The second film is an orientation film designed to be shown to new Douglas Aircraft employees that shows the history of the company and its products.
This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD. For more information visit www.PeriscopeFi...

It's a pity that the film on Hughes weapons system suddenly stops at 11:40. I'm afraid that the most interesting part of it has been missing.

Then the interesting part was that the AIM-4 missile was totally useless in air-to-air combat.
The first 11:40 is a paid commercial announcement for Howard Hughes.

There were two big problems with the AIM-4, A) no proximity fuse and B) the warhead was too small.

Got to say one thing, the Cold War years were sure good for jobs back then !! My Father had great work for 30+ years and we lived the good American life. Now a days where afraid to get any kind of big loan (car etc) because you don't know if you job or company will last !!!! Life was much better from 1950s to 1980s.

Those 2.75in air-to-air rockets would've been more effective if they'd been equipped with proximity-fuses in addition to their impact-fuses.

Yeah Hughes Culver City. Back in the day, that stretch of Jefferson Bl. between Centinela and Lincoln was unofficially known as the Culver City Municipal Drag Strip. There were white stripes 1/4 mile apart. I haven’t been back there in more than 40 years , I doubt they can race there now.

This archaic vacuum tube missile shot down 3 mig 29s about a decade ago, fired by a Korean F4D Phantom

The AIM-4 was a horrible weapon and only scored 5 kills over it's service life, all were in Vietnam, 4 of them were Mig-17s

@@acookiegimme4894 And all of them were, by definition, direct hits. Other missiles had a similar percentage of fired to hits... but with proximity fuzes.

@@acookiegimme4894 And it turns out that none of the F-4 Phantom pilots using it in the Vietnam War were properly trained in how to use the missile unlike the ADC pilots back in the US.

shoko1945 is correct in that this "Film" seems to be a whole lot of films cobbled together, what is going on?

I really like your channel, but has the counter to be there? When there has to be one, could it be a little bit more near the edge of the frame?

Here's the issue: tens of thousands of vintage films like this one have been destroyed and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like this on online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes.
So, in the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous TH-cam users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content. We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to deal with these kind of issues.

Ah i understand. Thanks for the answer and your awesome work in preserving these documents, i *really* appreciate it.
I'll look on the counter in a totally different way in the future. I realized again that sometimes my imagination isn't enough for what unscrupulous people may do.

+PeriscopeFilm I am sure you have already thought about this, but may I suggest that you get a Patreon account? I mean, take me as an example; I have no reason to buy stock footage from you since I am not a film producer, but I would gladly contribute a dollar or two a month for the privilege of continuing to watch these gold nuggets. I don't even mind the timestamps. :-)
It would also give you a more quiet backchannel for announcements and to communicate with your true fans, without the usual youtube comment noise.
