Great stuff as always Mikey! I've been watching you, tactical bassin', bass university and Miliken since way back in the early days of you tube. All these years and you're still fresh brother. Thanks for the sincerity in what you do.
You are 1000 percent right when I was a kid I wanted to learn how to fish plastics that's all I fished the whole summer. Funny you mentioned glide baits . I'm just getting into swimbaits that's what I'm going to mainly fish prespawn and post spawn
You're absolutely right. It's really difficult not overloading with a bunch of different baits and not fishing the normal spots you regularly fish. Definitely going to try and push myself to try new areas and maybe limit my lure selection every now and then.
100% bro The best way to learn is to REALLY LEARN. Fish a bait through different conditions, different depths, different water temps and learn where it shines so when you’re on the water and you see those magical conditions you know exactly what to do. I’ve been grinding big trout swimbaits this winter, leaving everything else at home, and i’ve learned so much this winter…and caught some bigs on top of it
I do the same thing when i want to figure out a technique. i dont remove stuff but will rig similar baits on differnt heads and weights so i can understand the effects.I fish alot of tournements so removing waypoints is not an option but forcing yourself to fish new water is a must. Good luck with the new boat!
Mikey I did not take most of my stuff out of the boat, but I did go out and fish a particular technique to get some confidence with it and basically see what worked and how to master it. I agree that if you limit yourself to a particular technique like glide baits, and learn it by doing exactly what you are proposing, it pays off. Like you, I have in the past gotten on the water and second guessed myself instead of staying with a particular and unfamiliar approach. Anyway, very good advice, and IMHO, very informative video.
You're much better at following the rules than me if I had other stuff in the boat I would have dabbled off and tried something else I'm way too much of the look at the shiny thing type LOL
@@mikeybalzz Dude, I appreciate what you're saying about the shiny new thing... It's hard, but I'm trying suppress those urges. BTW, I love the new boat! I can't afford that, so I use the old 1995 Ranger, although I have upgraded all the electronics. I'm with you on the Lowrance sonar for FFS and down scan. I do have a Garmin on the console for maps, side scan, etc. Again, you did a wonderful job "tricking out" the new boat. Tight lines and good fishing.
@blackops7445 dude that's a banger hull I don't think they make them like they used to with that one. Pretty cool you got it all rigged out with the new school tech too!
@@mikeybalzz Thanks Mikey! I agree, which is why I still have it. A lot of people have told me that, so there must be something to it. Good luck with your next tournament. I do enjoy your videos, so keep them coming, my friend.
I am fishing that uploaded boat. And I have so many marks on one of my graphs on a certain lake that I can't see the lake. I plan on removing them to make myself find some different spots like I did the last time that I fished it. Keep those lines tight, my friend.
this is so true. Too much stuff overwhelms the mind and you almost like freeze up bc of the choices. I'm still trying to figure out how to leave shit home bc we all know it won't catch fish at home..
Boy Mickey, I love that red boat. Bog seemed very comfortable. Great video. They asked Hank Parker to give a good fishing tip and this is what he said. " If you want to become a better bass fisherman then leave your favorite bait at home and try new type baits or something else in your tackle box". Your trip today reminded me of what he said. Keep it up bro. Just a quick observation. Did I see the center part on the back of the driver's seat missing?
This is where I am with FFS, I need to bring 1 thing at a time amd figure it out. I have already started removing my waypoints and re-analyzing my local lake.
It was definitely hard to watch space balzz go, but my biggest worry whenever I've sold a boat is that whoever I'm selling it to is going to use it and really take advantage of it and my buddy Steve is going to absolutely love that thing!
I actually started last year taking everything out of boat and only taking what I wanted to do and brought ONE other bait if by chance I had to cover water but only brought ONE of whatever it was if I lost it I had to go back to my main thing.
Have you ever tried using a Rapala Countdown to catch bass, while using your FFS? I've been experimenting with that lure. I have had some success with it.
100% correct. Mi biggest downsides became my strongest ones in competitions. The breakthrough point was when i left home (intentionally) all the things that i believed in, and f.cking learned to fish things that i earlier did not fish much.
YESSIR ! 13 mos ago I decided to start just throwing big baits, I'd always give up after an hr or so I tried for about a month and started leaving everything but my big baits and 1 box of jigs and again after an hr or so I'd always fall back on the jig box and using my buddy's tackle 11 mos ago I sold or gave away every stitch of conventional tackle and conventional casting setup I owned so I had no choice but to fish big baits ! In these past 11 mos I've caught more fish over 6lb than I did in the previous 30 YEAR'S!! I'll never EVER go back to conventional bass fishing! Do I catch 10 - 20 fish every time I go out ? No , Lord no.. there's trips I never get a single bite BUT when I do get bit it's a good'n I prefer over 7.5" baits but I do occasionally throw the 6" mag draft , 6" bacca burrito, 6th sense hangover, etc.. Glides are no less than 7" and up to 13.5" And guys don't think for 1 second a 1.5 lbr won't annihilate a 8" mag draft or 8" - 9" glide because they most CERTAINLY will ! I challenge anybody that's read this far to try a 8" threadfin/gizzard shad magdraft for 1 whole day the first good spring day !! I promise u u want regret it ! You may even be like tg rest of us big bait slangers and sale all your baby bass dink catcher materials 😅 *Great content as always Mike ty for doing everything u do for us !!*
I'm so sorry !! 👋🏼Heyyyy bog!!👋🏼 Thatsa goood boooy !! He couldn't of done it without u bud ! I named my newest rescue puppy after u ! His name is boggsy !
Boggs knows when you are hooked up. I didn't know you switched brands. Did you do a new boat video??? After listening to your video I had to edit. I have tried to go from scratch but only after I had caught at least 1 bass to get that cologne on my hands (sort of speaking). Ya know when you got to get the camel off your back. I'm a soft plastic guy, but one year long ago I only wanted to fish a spoon in the dead of winter(after that day I had hand warmers) I had watched Hack Attack make changes to make the spoon flutter and wobble near the same spot as it was initially. I stuck with it and finally did catch one, although it had no size and it was pain staking not to do what I like to throw.
Yeah that dog is like a pointer for bites he knows what I'm about to get one. Yeah just got this one it's a Nitro same as what I've had the past couple years. Just put up the build video as well last week.
Last year was my worst year ever and it was 100% due to trying way too many different things. I was trying to be “versatile” and it only ended up hurting me.
Yep if you want to get better you have to use the tools , no crutches , no go to Bs, just raw inputs and hard learned knowledge, go MBRF, I learned to punch from your vids, and I did it from the bank...
@ yeah, after a couple of trips I found myself looking forward to exploring. A lot of times it's just side scanning and live bottom contour recording without even worrying about fishing necessarily
Appreciate the shoutout, bud! I’ve been putting Spaceballs through her paces. Mostly with crappie so far.
Mikey and Bogg the best fishing team on TH-cam! 😎
👊

I think in some ways it makes it more fun too because you're sort of in a competition against yourself adds a little extra flavor to the day
I have a challenge for ya if you're willing.. first good spring day of 2025 throw a 8" mag draft the entire trip !
Congrats on the new boat! Looks great!!
100% bro

Love how the dog knows you’re about to reel one in with the drag noise. That’s so great !
He's a straight up bass pointer
I enjoy your videos ! Keep them coming.
THAT RIDICULOUSLY WELL DESERVED AND OVERDUE 100K SUBS ON THE WAY BROTHA!!!! Amen!!!! 🙌🏼

Congrats on the new sleigh!
I'm so happy that everybody saw your new you in your new Red Bull
Well put!! 💯 percent agreee
ATTA BOY Congrats on the new sled and putting some meat on the deck..💯💪
It’s good to see you out dancing in the new red Balzzroom. All the best to you and yours.
Thanks bud!
I would say that was dang good first day in the new rig 🤘🏻
Every once in awhile I get lucky I don't think it hurts that we're probably fishing one of the best lakes in the country right now
Nice bag, boat looks great I’m gonna do something similar. Just fish a 6 inch and 3 inch strait tail swim bait for the next two months or so.
It’s looks great! You’re definitely a Crimson Tide man now!
Embracing the Homeland 😁
Cool new rig and I like the idea. Were the birds there tipping you off to the bait?
Dang Mikey you are Ballin out with that new rig. I wish I coukd afford that. But I got what I need.
Thanks man I'm pretty proud of her that is many years of working six or seven days a week and it was 100% worth it!

I had this thought the other day. It makes sense, I need to do that with the minnow as well.
Men it works it's almost like Tournament Fishing where the restrictions and the rules force you to be adaptable and perform
@ good point sink or swim lol definitely will put that to work more this year

Hank's always got great advice, glad you enjoyed the video! And no I hope it isn't, way too new to already be breaking stuff 😂

GO BOG!!! GO MIKEY!!!
Hey Bog!
Cool boat Mikey.
I like the red boat!
Great video as usual. Enjoy the new ride. Have you tried the heavy weight sakamata Shad’s any.
Yeah I actually like them more you can use a little bit lighter jig head
@ thank ya man
Beautiful new boat but guarentee there was a touch of sadness as you left your old boat that day. Good video thanks.
It was definitely hard to watch space balzz go, but my biggest worry whenever I've sold a boat is that whoever I'm selling it to is going to use it and really take advantage of it and my buddy Steve is going to absolutely love that thing!
How you like the lunker sicks for drop shots? Just picked up the 7'4" medium fast.
I actually started last year taking everything out of boat and only taking what I wanted to do and brought ONE other bait if by chance I had to cover water but only brought ONE of whatever it was if I lost it I had to go back to my main thing.
Boat looks great on the water along with some great catches, but what is up with the BLUE shoes on the on the fire RED boat?
🤣 I actually got a red pair too
Have you ever tried using a Rapala Countdown to catch bass, while using your FFS? I've been experimenting with that lure. I have had some success with it.
Yeah you kind of use it like a sinking twitch bait, Megabass has one too that works pretty good
100% correct.
Mi biggest downsides became my strongest ones in competitions.
The breakthrough point was when i left home (intentionally) all the things that i believed in,
and f.cking learned to fish things that i earlier did not fish much.
Broke her in right that's for sure.awesome bro.
Yeah that's what I do every year would learn I tried to get carried away when I get my first fish
Yo Mikey, What rod are you using for your big Sakamatas?
Glad Bog was there for the cherry popping but he looked awfully bored with your summery at the end
I get a little bored with myself too sometimes maybe I need to go back to just OG raw fishing videos
Love my red Triton, gets lots of likes.
YESSIR !

Hello Bog, Good looking Mikey.
That was supposed to say good looking rig, Mikey.
Tight lines
Last year was my worst year ever and it was 100% due to trying way too many different things. I was trying to be “versatile” and it only ended up hurting me.
One mistake that helps you catch fish: occasionally look at your phone or the scenery when your jig fishing or throwing a frog.Works like a champ ! 😉
All we need is 1K more for the reward.
The only honest way to learn fishing a new technical skill is to do just that. It doesn't always work that quickly.
Red boats help you stand out to pleasure boaters who aren't paying attention.
Yep if you want to get better you have to use the tools , no crutches , no go to Bs, just raw inputs and hard learned knowledge, go MBRF, I learned to punch from your vids, and I did it from the bank...
That's so hardcore man!
First
👊
Dude how do you afford your lifestyle ?
Simply put, I haven't had a weekend for 5 years.
@ love the content and you seem to have your path figured!
Man I just put my girl on the bass of a lifetime with the DUMBEST lure ever. Over 12lbs and it was her second bass ever... SMH
Since committing to fishing new water 25% of every trip I've become a much better fisherman ... don't fish history
I like that, I may start trying that it's a good way to segment the day
@ yeah, after a couple of trips I found myself looking forward to exploring. A lot of times it's just side scanning and live bottom contour recording without even worrying about fishing necessarily
