I was at this show. It's wonderful to watch it again. I got chills when he first came on stage then and I did again now. What an entertainer!!!

Dear classic rock purists: I'm 22. I didn't know this song before he did it on American Idol. That introduced me to Zeppelin. And it's a good cover!

Every time that I watch a video of Adam, this song starts going through my head. It's Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistable", only with "F...ing Unbelievable" to replace those 2 words!!!! Yay Adam!!!

That is the most hilarious thing I've seen in a LONG time. I LOL every time I see it. The way he kicks that thing back out into the audience with such ferocity is freakin' hysterical! I bet it was being tossed around in the audience all night unless security tried to get it. Classic.

@drowsybrowser I saw Adam in Auburn Hills(front row ) and it was fantastically wonderful! BUT that night in Grand Rapids was magical, ethereal, an out of body experience!! Of all places-GRAND RAPIDS-but Adam had the crowd elevated three feet off the floor! His performance was truly electrifying!!!

Actually they were. According to the press, some of the group's kids (Zeplin) were huge fans of Adam and were thrilled he was going to sing WWL. I could never compare them cause I love Zeplin - But Adam is kick ass and will be totally famous in his own right.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Queen's Brian May says that while nothing is set in stone, he and drummer Roger Taylor "are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with Lambert to discuss the possibility of working together in the future". May went on to say that "I'd certainly like to work with Adam. That is one INCREDIBLE instrument he has there".
Before passing final damnation, check out his version of Tears for Fears "Mad World". It really is remarkable.

Adam did an interview and explained that he was told Zeppelin didn't approve in past but they would try for him. This approval was a very big deal.

I wasn't putting Adam down in my previous statement. The point I was trying to make is that I think he's so talented that he can even sing the phone book.
He's the one who said he couldn't sing country. And I said I think he can even sing that if he tried.
I'm sad I didn't start caring in time for the AI tour not only because of the missed chance to see Adam live, but also because the cognitive dissonance of watching everyone else do their chirpy safe Idol stuff and then having Adam show up in a storm of neon and over the top sexuality and sing Whole Lotta Love must have been FANTASTIC. Who needs drugs when Adam Lambert was on American Idol?

Adam is a solo artist and doesn't have a permanent band. No solo artist does.

@spliceit69 Honey, if I wanted to watch Zeppelin's version that's what I'd be watching. But I dont (at this time anyway) This is ADAM's version, it's not the same and it's not meant to be. It doesn't mean one is good and the other is bad, just different. The world is big enough for two good versions of this song - or even - shock!! - MORE then two.

Anyway, look up Adam Lambert-Turning On, The Circle, Beyond the Sky, Crawl Thru Fire, Glamorize (A blend of rock, dance and electronic) but still a great song. These songs are Adam's when he waas with his very own rock band, citizen vein.

Led Zep doesn't just hand out rights to their songs. I believe that only three movies in history have ever been given permission to use zeppelin songs (school of rock, almost famous, and some other cameron crowe movie I can't think of) and American Idol has never been able to get permission until Adam came around.
Anyway Led Zep is my favorite band of all time and I think Adam Lambert did a great job with this song.

@PsychLion I can agree with that to an extent. I think that he over dramatized this song too much. He didn't have the emotion to sing it. He's got the pipes to do it, he just doesn't have the raw, gritty emotion for it.

Actually Robert Plant contacted AI and praised Adam's performance. So I watched the original version and have to admit Adam's was better. Seems whenever he does a cover it's usually better than original. Hope he does more rock songs for next album.

Well, that may have been true the FIRST time he same the song during Rock Week on American Idol. I think most fans are likely aware now of LZ if they weren't before.

He reacted to someone throwing an inappropriate item AT him. And they threw it at him while he was engrossed in his most highly charged performance of his set. His reaction was in keeping with the energy of that performance. It was rude of the person who threw it so I can see why his fans are defending him. I don't think he would've kicked it or thrown it hard if it was during any other song in his set because of the different state of energy he would be in.
