      Andrew Pugh Hi Andrew, Thanks for your kind comments my friend, i truly dont think i could match the readable and interatsing articles the proper journos write, i really only feel that im in my comfort zone when im doing the mechanical stuff...anyone can ride a bike, some better than others, and we're all as safe as our last ride, no matter how much tallent we may have....but the cost of servicing and repairs can be crippling to most bikers, and even if not, then the more of us that can turn our backs on the pricey dealer technicians and do a few things at home and be safe with it, then maybe they'll have to clip thier comedy pricing a bit and compete in the real trades market... a fully qualified Gas Fitter, or Brick Layer charges less than half what your local main agent does for even basic spanner work, let along tricky diagnostics... well, we can hope cant we..lol

    Very well explained sir . I've never thought of bending the bolt like that usually I just lock a couple of nuts on the other end and use a socket and breaker bar but your way seems better and easier. cheers

      MX Tex 🚲 Yes, double nutting a bolt always works ok on regular bolts, but these top clamp collars get mega tight and the double nutted thread just strips... !

    i fitted 52mm adjustable clip ons to my 1992 zxr 750j. the standard clip one were giving me a pinch in my neck . these adjustables are so much better.

    Do you know that the best sidestand option is the US spec sidestand which was made heavier with a greater footprint to conform to some state laws specifying the stand has to be able to hold the weight of passenger and luggage. The Blade sidestand does indeed bolt straight on however, in my case I felt the stand needed to be shortened because the bike stands upright a little too much. Watch out for the other reason the Milles fall over which is the gammie sidestand switch.

      ***** Thanks Ian, that's real useful information... but it looks like I'll just be modifying the standard factory one, when I get to it, because I can't find an 04-07 stand for love nor money, and even all the others that are no good, are still £35 each second hand, and the chances of finding a US spec one I would imagine are even less.... so planning to notch and bend it outwards so it reaches further to the left, then extend the length to stand it at the right angle and weld a bigger, safe foot on it... all that will cost me nothing and give me a chance to play with the welder again lol !

    great vid as always D&P , weve all had tools borrowed and never returned its my pet hate, I once did a job on a mates car and left my toolbox round there lucky it was only one of those carry boxes with the tools I needed in it for the job luckily, then my mate was asked by one of his friends if they could borrow a socket set and he leant them my toolbox, i never saw it again, it my panal beating dollys and a bluepoint 3/4 socket set, amongst other bits, I wasn't happy,

      Artorius S. Hi mate, ive put nothing in there yet, ill stick some bar end weights on the end using rawl plug as usual, or maybe fit some internal slugs if i need more damping..

    Brilliant how to vid as always. I'll still probably never do something like this myself but I love the educational element of your videos. Just a few questions...
    1) what was the weight difference between new and old clip ons? (And will that make any noticeable difference in steering when riding?)
    2) will you have to drill out the ends of the clip ons to fit bar end weights?

      antony lacki Hi Anthony, the ends of the new clip ons have splastic caps in them, ill just pull them out and fit some bar weights using the usual rawl plugs trick... and the factory clip-ons turned out to be alloy too, so about the same weight..

    Great vid Del, I think my Ninja is in need of a new left clip-on too, I was wondering because I do not have an air compressor is there another easy way to removed the left grip?

      MotorcycleJosh1 Hi Josh, sometimes you can slip a very think screwdriver blade up under the outer end and work it round the insde gently to break the 'seal', and then just wriggle and twist it off by holding the flange at the top... if all else fails, stick the tiny red tube from a WD-40 can down up the inside, and give it a squirt, twist it round a few times and it will slip it right off ...BUT then you will have to scrub the inside of the grip out thoroughly with hot soapy water to get rid of the WD-40, otherwise it won't stick to the new bar... better to get it off dry, if you can!

    Good luck with the Fireblade stand. While the original stand you've got there keeps the bike too upright, the Fireblade stand feels like it's leaning over too far (at least that's how my friend's one feels), but it works.

    Hey Del how goes it? looking for some of your knowledge. i replaced a front caliper yesterday (thanks to your vids) . Im pretty sure ive done everything i needed to do i.e bleeding the brakes untill no more air bubbles coming through. but the lever is very spongy and the braking isnt as good as it was before, not alot of difference but there is some. Is there something else i can do or check? ive got new pads coming tomorrow so i will be taking them off again on my next day off to replace the pads.

      bigoz1977 Hi mate, much as you say you've bleed all the air out... if they are spongy, then clearly you haven't lol! ... A spongy hydraulic line can only be achieved if it contains air... the bleeding process is not an exact science, you are trying to push air bubbles downards through a fluid and nature wants to force them back up! If you can take the caliper off the fork and hang it up above the master cylinder (stick a chunk of number plate in between the pads to represent the disc) and then bleed 'upwards' then nature is working with you... and I guarantee you will get the rest of the air out... not worth faffing around like this till you get your new pads, and just for now, clamp the lever in with some masking tape overnight and that will pressurise the system, which shrinks the bubbles, making them smaller and easier to drift up through the fluid to the top, where they can exit the open pump valve.... take the masking tape off in the morning, pump the lever and they will be better....!

      Awesome Del thanks you for getting back to me so soon. i did got at it again today and its better but not right so i will tape the lever just now and give it another blast tomorrow :) I also done my clutch fluid today aswel ( thanks again for the video lol) just oil and coolant to change now. although i have to get the finances back up for that.     Hi There - love your video's - I have a Mille R and it felt over right in front of me and bent the left side clip-on so this has been most helpful. However, you never did show what you did with the two small fluid reservoirs that originally located onto the bars...? Is it possible to do a short, explanatory video so that I can finish off the job... :-0. Also, did you ever swap the side stand for a 04-07 Blade one? Does it work and are the a straight swap? ie; do the fold up nicely without rubbing on the fairing or poking out awkwardly..?

      +Tasty115 Hi mate... sorry but we are up against it these days woth a trail of backed up videos to get done on the projects here... just cant make videso to order... i used large diameter "P" clips round the bars to secure them.. and yes the stand is a straight swap, but i didnt do it, just mentioned it so others can make the swap if theyy didnt know about it..

      Not that I know of mate. lots of bikes don't have them, and as long as the switch block stays put, then it's fine.

    I bet that's loads better.
    They are almost identical to my bars except mine are polished alloy. The only problem I found with my cheap Chinese clips ons were the fixings, as per usual they supplied a set of bolts made from mild cheddar which were also too short so they only made use of a few threads! Not a big problem though, I just nipped to Allfix for some longer stainless ones :>

      The Gentleman Biker Hi mate...yeah i live by that practice, no fastner that ever came out of China was any more then stale pastry....i keep a huge mixed bag of stainless bolts from Screwfix and swap them before i start.. good practive aye.. !

    One question if I may. I need to change left clip on on my GSXR after failed theft attempt...
    I've been told it is easier/quicker to drop the forks down rather than remote the triple clamp in order to slide the clip-on off. What's your take on it?

      Hi buddy.. now way... there is ten times the work to drop the forks out... Calipers off, mudguard off, support the front off the ground, front wheel out, Loosen off the top and bottom yokes (great fun gettingf to the bottom ones), and then disturb the alignment too when you drop the forks...
      OR
      Remove the toke yoke centre nut, loosen off the top yoke pinch bolts, pull it off, and lift the left clip-on off..... Which method would you choose..!!!!!

    Hi just subscribed,im finding riding my aprilia rsv tiring in the wrists,would like to know how high i could raise my handlebars without losing the balance of the bike,any info would be helpfull, great video btw

      Hi Antony, you wont upset the balance of the bike mate, they also come in "Tuono" form, its the exact same bike with full-on top yoke mounted handlebars.. all the other geometry is the same as the Mille, so go ahead and fit what ever bars you like... even Renthals will be fine.. and a lot easier to ride day to day as well..     just a thought. if you haven't got a blowtorch and heavy vice to put a bend in the bolt. just screw two nuts on to the other end, tighten them against each other and use a spanner or socket on them. simples

      David robbins Doesn't work David, these top yoke cap nuts are torqued at 80Nm as standard, and usually need a breaker bar to undo them... you'll find that the two nuts backed against each other will just strip, unless you're really lucky... a blow lamp costs a tenner from the DIY store and, as you saw, I don't have a heavy vice, that was just to hold it whilst I heated it, the work is done by two opposing step ring spanners... easy and a tool you can use!

    Great Vid Del, learned alot there, im interested in the fluid reservoir deletion you spoke of, I've seen it on bikes at shows and at road racing events but not sure how its done and how much fluid you can get away with having... be interesting that one. ;)

      Mark Roberts Hi Mark, its not an exact science, and your dealer will make grumpy noises like they always do, but its a common mod for track bikes... you just replace the p1ss pot with a short length of clear hose about4" long, curve it upwards if the exit from the pump is side-on, and just fill it to about 3/4 from the top and plug it off... the only down side with having so little reservoir quantity is they as the pads wear you have to top it up, and on a really hot day with expantion they can overflow....but then they are stricktly for track bikes which are fettled every meeting..!!

      Louscannon Magoo Here's link to the people I used mate... it looks like they don't do a version for the 800, but this is the kind of thing you are looking for, so have a search round Ebay... also, they only actually raised it about 1/2" in real terms.... have you thought of a top yoke conversion and straight bars???     Really enjoy these videos please don't stop been riding since I was 16 now 33 and getting quite good with my bikes but find myself learning so much from your videos👍. on my 10th bike from scoter 2 babyblade zx6r r1 blade and Ducati 748 at present and that vtwin sound you can't beat it but can't make my mind up weather to go back to a inline 4. But at the weekend went to my triumph dealer and saw that scrambled 900 with a arrow pipe good that sounds awesome. love my sports bikes but starting to love this old school stuff or am I starting to get old😜 don't fancy doing a video on a cam belt change for a 748 lol keep up the good work and 👍to penny for the camera work. What's your favourite vtwin? Any chance for a shoutout in the next video (p66ugh) what TH-cam should be for 😎💪great work

      Andrew Pugh HI Andrew, i cant make a video on a bike we dont have...we only load up the videos on the work i have cause to do in the garage as a matter of course...and as for a shoot out, im not a bike journo, i wish lol, so dont have anyone to lend us bikes to test....and the practice of vloggers going on bike open days and making out they are "reviewing bikes" is pathetic...they usually say nothing meaningful or accurate, mostly just mumble on about how different it is to thier bike (that's usually in for service at the shop and the bike they are "reviewing" is a customer loaner_...lol... no mate, a proper bike review is a professional thing that people will put thousands of pounds of thier had earned money against in good faith... and like i said, i dont have the source for test bikes to use.. nor the professional skill to do it properly...so i stick to me spanners..lol

      Hi Gary, I've not had experience of those, but I've always believed that if they're good billet quality and fit nicely, then it's always good to sit up a little on a sportsbike for road use, full dip clip ons are really only for track use... good luck with the surgery, hope it all heals well for you...

      Hi Griff, i dont keep that kind of data handy mate.. the only way to be sure is check the part numbers for both with an Aprilia dealer, if they are the same, then they'll fit.. but if they are different part numbers, then they will certainly be different in some way..! sorry i cant be more helps mate.

    I was going to buy these, but was disappointed to see they did not raise the height of the bar. Is this because the Mille has a 1" rise on the standard clip on?
    I am having a nightmare with the torturous riding position, and can't believe the price of the higher clip on risers (£300 🤦‍♂️). Not sure of where best to buy from in the UK. They don't make it easy.

      I think from memory Peter, even with these fitted there is minimal space to turn the bars without hitting the fairing... so if you really want to sit up more, the best and simplest way is a top yoke conversion, but you'd have to trim the plastics back a bit...no big shakes, and easy enough.. its just weather you want to take a cutting disc to your bodywork..?!

      @@Moonfleet41 Thanks. I seen some abm and Apex fully adjustable clip on risers. I may try one of these to raise it around an inch from where it currently is. Hopefully that will work in the tight space, and be good enough to convince me to use it. I intend to use your pclip idea for the brake and clutch cylinders.

      I had a good result with the fully adjustable ABM Tour clip ons. Your video was really helpful in planning the job. The ABM stuff allowed a 40-50mm rise above stock without cutting the fairing. I needed longer brake and clutch cables, but the holes in the existing lever mounts were fine for securing the fluid reservoirs. Considerably more comfortable and looks good, although I think the tuono bars would still be bliss in comparison.

    by the way wanted to know how the new clip on felt once all set and how you dealt with the vibration? I'm sure both my clip on need replacing and what was diameter size as theirs two or three sizes..need to replace the ones on the mille 2003 thanks

      +wahid latif The feel the same as the factory ones buddy, no more or l;ess vibration, and if you just search them by bike model on ebay, you'll find them easily..

      Sam H Hi Sam, sadly I am probably going to be doing lots on it as time goes on (don't tell Penny lol!)... I did plan to just ride it and enjoy it, but you know me, I can't leave things alone, the bars were really irritating, so had to be replaced and they've thrown up a few other mods, such as the fluid pots and making some bar ends, side stand modification, etc. ...gonna go through suspension set up on it... and on and on .... will fit in amongst Triumph videos and, obviously, not forgetting the Rat Bike! ...do you have a Mille yourself Sam?

      Moonfleet41 Haha lol, I am the same every time i get a new bike lol. I think vids on the Mille may help some new riders on sportsbikes with there tinkering. No on zx10r at the mo. but started biking life on a aprilia AF 50 and AF125 so a big soft spot for aprilia. She is a real head turner, bargin for 2k Del

Even the 900 blades and zx9r's around coming below the 2k mark and if i ever get to the age where the ducati 996's hit that ill start doing cartwheels lol. It is great to see bikes like this become so affordable. For the price on one new sportbike thats 8 at 2k lol :D

      DAUKGinjaNinja I did shoot the bolt cap footage twice and i made a small error in the editing, but the video was long enough at half hour already. torqued it up to 80Nm later...the entire full footage was 58 minutes, we have to cut to the chase on a lot of things to keep them watcahble.. thanks mate..

      This is a very old video and I haven't watched it for many years, but I believe you're referring to a 2004-2007 Honda Fireblade sidestand? ... that will replace the Aprilia stand and be a lot more stable.

    Hello, on 15:38 you show the end of the bar . I have new barweights but don't know how to put them on. I have screwed the original endweight of but how do I get the inside bar out ? And can I just put the other barweight just in without the removed inside bar? or is that a nono?

      Hi buddy, cool upgrade, those aren't fitted in the general way, the standard weights screw in to an internal thread... and your universal ones, as you can see, have a rubber expanding block that fits in to an empty bar, then when you screw the screw in, it pulls the end nut towards it, expanding the rubber block and gripping the inside of the bar, holding the weight on... but you probably don't have enough room to shove that all the way up the bar... so, what you may be able to do is take the nut off the end of the new one, pull the rubber expanding block off, and see if you can screw the long metal screw straight in to your Hayabusa bar end using the thread that is already in there... that should work! If it is the wrong thread, you may be able to use the screw that you took out of the original bar weight... either way, these things sometimes take a little bit of thinking... hope that helps!

      I think I have to size down the original bar end end remove the rubber of the new one and cut of the smaller part of that new one so it joines together and use a longer or shorten the screw . In that way I have the original for halve the size and the new one against the old one with a langer scew. Now finding someone with a metal lathe to short the pieces.

    Hello I own a my 2000 rsv mille and dropped it on the right side while on the first ride with a new rear tire... Right hand handlebar broke right off..
