Fantastic episode. Probably my favourite so far. I love how humble the workers at the hydraulic place were but the immense skill they have. As a teacher I can see the guys who aren’t your usual suspects for the academic subjects but have brilliant minds that need nurturing too.
Loved seeing the phoenix contracts team that worked the miracle on the hydraulics. Have to say that you need to pull the rest of the crane up to the same standard!
Inspirational, this has spurred me on to have a go at fixing a rusty machine I bought on EBay a few years ago. It’s a bit of agri history - used for mashing up mangolds for cattle. I want to convert it to a scratter to mash up my apples before pressing ( I’ve made my own press using a car jack). It’s seemed a daunting task and it’s gone to the back of my project queue but Dom’s approach and good humour after setbacks has made me keen to get started. The rusty drum is going to be my main problem!
It is so gratifying to see new life breathed into a vintage piece of equipment and to have craftsmen that are keen to help and actually have the skills to do it. Kudos all round.
A&E 0, H&S ?? 😀😃🤣 Don't you just love these little repair businesses, the unsung heroes of the mechanical engineering world putting their brains together to overcome a problem👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I've been in that situation so many times, fighting the tiredness cos the winning line's in sight only to discover it's all gone together back t' front !! It's the not giving up and carrying on till the end regardless that makes it even more rewarding. Such a great effort by everyone !! Lovin' your work Dom. So good of those boys to give you your very own Repair shop moment, I almost shed a tear 🤣🤣😪
That was a brilliant episode, great to see that old piece of equipment given a new lease of life. Great to see all those refurbished parts painted green , I think that this was a very environmentally friendly restoration. Why buy new when with a little thought and determination these pieces can be serviceable for years to come. I was wondering wether it would be a good idea to get the “hook” tested just as a safety precaution. Thanks again.
Nice to see a youngster in there learning the skills. I watched the old boys in the Neon sign video and wondered who is going to take those skills forwards .
Good Morning Dom. That was an excellent amount of work done by Glen & his team such an amazing job to the equipment making it look like new. Good job by you to rebuild on your own but i think it would look so good if you painted the crane to make it look fresh. Well done Dom take care.
Great job. I'd love to have a crane like that just to move my anvil, but my place is even more crowded than your! Still, love seeing that old equipment being brought back to life. Don't you dare leave it all rusty and crusty after the good folks at Phoenix did such a bang up job on those hydraulics. Gotta paint the whole thing to match.
Hi Dom, I am one of the many ladies that enjoy the Repair Shop, and your videos, I was sad when you sold your old Land Rover, I sold my Series 111 years ago and still regret that. I hope you get one again in the future and I will enjoy the restoration if you do. I loved to see the crane being put back together, I feel sad that on The Repair Shop you transform things back to their new condition, I think it is a shame that you are not going to do this with the crane, I am sure it would look fantastic, all British Racing Green, and in a corner of your workshop. Keep up the good work. I have already ordered your book. Kind regards Jan.
Awesome job as always, but seeing the guys did such a fantastic job on restoring the hydraulic, at some point in the near future you are going to have to give the mechanics of the crane the same make over, I think she would then look amazing once more. Keep up the great work look forward to seeing the next video😎👍
It matters not ONE BIT what the rest of the crane looks like! It's a tool for getting a job done! The important bit is refurbished. Dom has plenty to do without wasting his time mucking about painting unnecessary stuff......
Hi Dom. I used to purchase nuts and bolts etc from Acorn Fasteners when I was a buyer at Rediffusion Flight Simulation in Crawley in the 80s. Thanks for the memories! 😁
Great to see the crane lifting again. .It moves beautifully on the floor. back to front parts, So easily done, pinned and glued a vicrorian banister spindle together to realiise when i was trying to fit it that the square ends were 45 degrees out. Arun fasteners, excellent, ive been looking for a 1"UNF for sone lathe spindle attachments. Looking forward to the book. Was looking at the makers marks on my old file shafts , tool companies of the past are a wonderful rabbit hole.
Sorry I was unable to get to Prescott today, would have loved meeting you. I spoke to Allan Rhodes who was taking photographs and he said what a great guy you were. I do hope you all enjoyed your day at Prescott, it's a great venue for motor racing.
A great team effort and a wonderful 'reverse' Repair Shop moment. Thanks for letting us bask in YOUR warm glow! And now you can crack on, not just with the ranalah, but with all the heavy lifting that needs doing.
really enjoyed that Dom. The mix of the old kit, the various specialists and your enthusiasm to bring the kit back to life and in use is so entertaining. I love it. Keep 'em coming mate!
Well done Dom! I’m with you on a coat of oil for the old hoist bits. It’s good to see the history of the machine at a glance and the function won’t be affected as you’ve taken care to lube the pivots, gears, etc. Brilliant effort all around by a whole team of craftsmen.
Well done Dom. Its great to see the old gesr re used. Ive still got a lot of my dads old tools. Im getting on now so looking for someone to leave them all too. I dont want them chucked away
How Cool is that Dom!! I bet your well chuffed after all your hard work. A thought for the future, add that lift to you jobs pending list it's way to noisy. WE LOVE IT DOM!!! Thanks
What an epic old piece of equipment! It is SO rewarding to restore such a well-designed mechanism to working order, and it seems to have quite impressive lifting capacity, which makes it all the more impressive! Well done!!
Fantastic recommissioning job on a superb bit of kit. I completely agree with the decision to let it wear its age on the framework. It's only original once, and the scars it shows is all part of that. I dispair when I see once nice things finished 'like new' and all trace of history wiped out when it's not necessary.
The satisfaction of completing a project feels so good, I get having so many projects on the go, time and money dictate what gets done and when. some are just too good to turn away from even if they take years but that doesn't matter the kick from getting them done eventually is so worth it.
Thank you Dom! Now I don't feel so bad when I get halfway down the road only to find I took a wrong turn at the start! It happens to us all I know, but you never see it revealed! What a great project. Well done!
it must of felt like Christmas morning picking up the hydraulics Dom, and what a lovely job they have done. Good to see the crane all working again. well done 👏
To stop the wheel from swinging while moving around the workshop a noging of wood across the crane legs and lower it on to the wood but most of the weight is still supported by the arm. This makes a great difference to stability, The amount of times I have sean people pulling engine cranes around with the load swinging and the crane as gone over Great video Well done
Fantastic Dom, I dunno who was more excited , you or me! It’s great to see that you are able to lift heavy gear now and move about - something I wanted for my own workshop but could never afford to purchase. Keep up the good work as the videos are thoroughly enjoyable. By the way - good luck with the book. I might get a copy for the grandkids as I probably have some of those tools from my dad / grandad down my shed and it will save me having to answer and explain. “What is this for grandad?”……
Awesome, just thinking if you wield a couple of eyelets to trolly legs it would give you a lashing point for moving the Ranalah’s around so they don’t sway to much potentially hitting something.
Chris at Salvage Rebuilds has a nice had operated lathe for turning new bolt / stud threads if you wanted to turn down a bilet of steel to make new bolts !!
That is incredible work, I can't believe the main unit could be brought back! The brains in those guys heads! I think leaving the arm as is really highlights the work those guys did 👍🏻
Nice one Dominic! I ordered your book this morning. You'd better stock up on Sharpies, you're gonna be signing lots of books at auto jumbles, etc. Good luck, you seem like a nice bloke. My brother just saw the Austin pedal car episode, and he was telling me how amazing it was, so I told him about your channel. Big love.
Great restoration job, like you said it is really neat to bring an old engine hoist back to life to help bring new life back into the Ranalahs. Sure you are going to find a lot more uses for the hoist though as time goes on.
Loved this attention to detail with perfectionist doing all the work . It’s your nickel , but I would have matched the work done on the rest. And in a hundred years or so it would still look amazing . ( probably wind up in a museum)
It's great to know that those specialist guys are around to help with stuff like that. What a superb result!
Glen wants a gig on The Repair Shop 😆 what a great build!!!! Thanks Dom.
Awesome to see good old British engineers at work
Fantastic episode. Probably my favourite so far. I love how humble the workers at the hydraulic place were but the immense skill they have. As a teacher I can see the guys who aren’t your usual suspects for the academic subjects but have brilliant minds that need nurturing too.
Original technology brought back to life by artisans. Brilliant 🌞
Loved seeing the phoenix contracts team that worked the miracle on the hydraulics. Have to say that you need to pull the rest of the crane up to the same standard!
I don't know why - it's just a tool...!
Plenty of oil and grease and it'll be just fine ..!
Marvellous! …and you also took me back to my primary school days at the end-we used to march into morning assembly to a record of Washington Post! 😆
That’s Dan’s great music taste!
Inspirational, this has spurred me on to have a go at fixing a rusty machine I bought on EBay a few years ago. It’s a bit of agri history - used for mashing up mangolds for cattle. It’s seemed a daunting task and it’s gone to the back of my project queue but Dom’s approach and good humour after setbacks has made me keen to get started. The rusty drum is going to be my main problem!
Best of luck with it! Sounds like an interesting project!
@@DominicChineas Thanks Dom. Hoping for wet days so I can be in the shed rather than assigned gardening tasks!
try gemstone polishing grit in the drum ?
It is so gratifying to see new life breathed into a vintage piece of equipment and to have craftsmen that are keen to help and actually have the skills to do it. Kudos all round.
What a great result. What great fun.
👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
Dom, Another masterpiece! You are an inspiration to all us hermits who spend our days working alone on our (mostly) old British projects.
A&E 0, H&S ?? 😀😃🤣 Don't you just love these little repair businesses, the unsung heroes of the mechanical engineering world putting their brains together to overcome a problem👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cracking job grommet.
That looked a great day out. What a nice lad to give you a ride to remember. Have a great week Dom

Such a cool episode on so many levels. Cheers, Dom.
Very impressive what they were able to do. That crane will be a valuable asset to the workshop. All the best, Mart in Solihull.
Great work! 🙂 Nice touch with the Rama Lama Ding Dong at 26:27
Nice to see a youngster in there learning the skills. I watched the old boys in the Neon sign video and wondered who is going to take those skills forwards .

Great to see a local supplier to you doing a top job for you
Great job. I'd love to have a crane like that just to move my anvil, but my place is even more crowded than your! Still, love seeing that old equipment being brought back to life. Brilliant job resurrecting a very useful bit of kit rather than leaving it to rot - I'm sure it will pay for itself in no time.
Awesome job as always, but seeing the guys did such a fantastic job on restoring the hydraulic, at some point in the near future you are going to have to give the mechanics of the crane the same make over, I think she would then look amazing once more. Would love to see the behind the scenes at the Hydraulic place - great to know there is still skill like that around. Well done Dom.👍
I filmed a walk around there workshop on my first visit there in the first crane restoration video
Dom - A triumph, well done! And Phoenix are fantastic well done guys!
Thank you!
Hi Dom. I used to purchase nuts and bolts etc from Acorn Fasteners when I was a buyer at Rediffusion Flight Simulation in Crawley in the 80s. Thanks for the memories! 😁
Well done!! I'm glad it worked, hats off to the team who did the hydraulic overhaul.
Good luck from Spain!!
Dom, lovely to see the progress. Interesting how one project leads to another 🙂 glad it got done.
Great work Dom. Those hydraulic guys are amazing. If I ever need anything like that I now know where to go.
Great to see the crane lifting again. .It moves beautifully on the floor. back to front parts, So easily done, pinned and glued a vicrorian banister spindle together to realiise when i was trying to fit it that the square ends were 45 degrees out. Fantastic to see the crane come back to life. Well done you.
Hello Dom,
Nicely done... I am pleased that you retained the patina of a bygone age,
Take care.
Paul,,
A fine job sir, and really good to see how chuffed you were at the end!
I am so pleased!
So great you got the team together for that video recap.
Well done Dom
Brilliant! Well done.
It's lovely to see that you've saved a piece of the finest British engineering, to use in the workshop. Good luck with the Ranalah project.
really enjoyed that Dom. The mix of the old kit, the various specialists and your enthusiasm to bring the kit back to life and in use is so entertaining. I love it. Keep 'em coming mate!
I found this very moving🥰😁
Well done Dom! I’m with you on a coat of oil for the old hoist bits. It’s good to see the history of the machine at a glance and the function won’t be affected as you’ve taken care to lube the pivots, gears, etc.
Brilliant effort all around by a whole team of craftsmen.
Fantastic work by everyone involved
Thank you for your great Videos. A frefreshing Counterbalance in these weird times.
Well done Dom. Its great to see the old gesr re used. Ive still got a lot of my dads old tools. Im getting on now so looking for someone to leave them all too. I dont want them chucked away
Isn't it grand when a plan comes together. That crane looks like it will be a pretty useful addition to the capabilities of the workshop.
How Cool is that Dom!! I bet your well chuffed after all your hard work. A thought for the future, add that lift to you jobs pending list it's way to noisy. WE LOVE IT DOM!!! Thanks
The lift is definitely on its way out! Another project haha
Happy days great job 👏
What an epic old piece of equipment! It is SO rewarding to restore such a well-designed mechanism to working order, and it seems to have quite impressive lifting capacity, which makes it all the more impressive! Well done!!
Great Stonehendge" engineering. Where theres a will, theres a way 💪👍. Glen is amazing !!! Congratulations on rescuing the crane ❤️
Fantastic recommissioning job on a superb bit of kit. I completely agree with the decision to let it wear its age on the framework. It's only original once, and the scars it shows is all part of that.
I dispair when I see once nice things finished 'like new' and all trace of history wiped out when it's not necessary.
Thank you for the message, exactly my thoughts, I like it’s look, it all tells a story!
Wo0w you were lucky with those wheel bolts you must have been right on the limit of hitting the support frame, Great stuff!
Literally just got away with it!
Thanks!
The satisfaction of completing a project feels so good, I get having so many projects on the go, time and money dictate what gets done and when. some are just too good to turn away from even if they take years but that doesn't matter the kick from getting them done eventually is so worth it.
Clean and protect it Dom, don't keep it outside, or one day some bit of it will give way in use - or - it could grow legs overnight and go walkabout..
Thank you Dom! Now I don't feel so bad when I get halfway down the road only to find I took a wrong turn at the start! It happens to us all I know, but you never see it revealed! What a great project. Well done!

Thank you for the tip! Appreciate it
Takk!
Your enthusiasm for these projects is magic 👍
What a great and satisfying job done Dom. well done!
This project has really had an uplifting effect on my day 👍🏼 Thanks so much for this fab channel Dom just brilliant
That’s so nice to hear thank you
I would restore the whole thing since you went this far, sandblast it and paint it whole look amazing.
Up up and away, you have done it Dom, one project ✔️, and next Sunday it’s going to be, ???, 👍👍.
Awesome persistence in the face of adversary!! Keep it up Dom. Your endless enthusiasm motivates me for my wee projects. Brilliant.
I’m glad to hear it thank you
Excellent episode Dom, loving the progress of the Ranalah build.
Thank you, I’m glad your enjoying following along
So pleased for you Dom, you have saved a great bit of kit & made use of it, well done young man.
Thanks
Wonderful job Dominic!!
Congratulations Dom that was a great achievement. Kind regards, Richard.

Fantastic video well done Dom another part of our heritage saved outstanding job on the hydraulic system those guys did you proud 👍👍👍👍❤️
Great stuff Dom, we are getting there!
Dom - great job on getting the hoist rebuilt and working again but c’mon, do some more resto work on that lovely 356 !
Thanks Dom for this Harvey Frost crane but more content for us 😂 and thanks to Phoenix Engineers too
Well done Dom.
Awesome, just thinking if you wield a couple of eyelets to trolly legs it would give you a lashing point for moving the Ranalah’s around so they don’t sway to much potentially hitting something.

Brilliant thanks Dom
Dom I think you need to get the paint brush out and make the rest of the crane look as good as the hydraulics!
Well done Dom.
Love to see old machinery brought back to practical use. Keep up the great work 👍
Outstanding sir. It needs to match.
Great video, heroic work from all involved. Thanks Dom, best wishes
Thanks Roy
Fantastic Dom. I do like the restored workings with patina finish on the rest. What a lovely piece of equipment that is.
Good work Dom, you owe those hydraulics guys a pint or two.
👍 another one in the books Mate 😎👊👍
Brilliant Dom , very cool ! Cheers mate from Australia 🇦🇺 👌 👍
Great restoration job, like you said it is really neat to bring an old engine hoist back to life to help bring new life back into the Ranalahs. Sure you are going to find a lot more uses for the hoist though as time goes on.
I think so, unloading the van with new machines will be easy now!
Hey Dom that rust has got a hoist attached to it ! Nice job .
Dom, Your grin says it all! Looking forward to seeing it get used around the shop.
Well done 👍
well done Dom - whoop whoop working lift 👌😊
Loved this attention to detail with perfectionist doing all the work . It’s your nickel , but I would have matched the work done on the rest. And in a hundred years or so it would still look amazing . ( probably wind up in a museum)
Fantastic Dom. Well done.
So much going on in your life at the moment Dom and all exciting!
