    My local appliance repairman told me I had to replace the control panel. Unwilling to throw in the towel just yet I spent months "spinning" the knob until it reached the desired setting. Finally, I reached out to LG customer service (again) & they were absolutely no help! In desperation, I googled, came across & watched your video. "OMG ..... it can't possibly be that easy". IT WAS!!! Thank you, THANK YOU for saving me hours of frustration & hundreds of dollars!!!

  • @joemelcher
    @joemelcher 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Thanks so much! Ours was not going backwards, but to change the setting in either direction, we had to forcefully spin the knob. Got really annoying and was getting worse. NOTE: in this video, the spray goes into the white plastic piece in the center. My plastic piece pulled off when I removed the knob (which had to be pried out with the tip of a strong knife) and this made me see that you should not spray the WD-40 directly into the center, because that does not go anywhere; you need to angle it to both sides. I would recommend removing the plastic piece if it did not pop out by itself. It's easy to do by pressing the tip of a screwdriver against the tab release on either side. Then you'll clearly see the access holes where the WD-40 should be directed.

    I want to add that this fixed things perfectly on my LG as well (different model). The knob can actually be pulled off. Spray WD-40 in there and problem solved. It's been a year and still working.

    This is the stuff, techs charge $200 for and tell you to have a great day afterwards. Thank you so much for keeping a simple fix, a simple fix. Have a newer LG washer, but this selector wheel FIX STILL WORKED. 🙏

  • @ellepenner
    @ellepenner 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I also have a newer machine and it still works like a charm. After doing it once I noticed it was much better but still skipping every 3rd-4th turn, so I repeated it, adding more WD-40 and now it works perfectly!

    The store where I purchased my washer could not provide or recommend a repair service in my (rural) area. While searching for a replacement switch I came across your post and decided to try it. The 5-minute fix worked beautifully! Thank you so very much for your most helpful suggestion!

  • @ivanov1256

    Thank you so much for showing how to do this! 🙏🙌 After applying WD-40 lubricant and moving the dial around to help reestablish contact, the digital selector is finally working on the first rotation, as it's supposed to. I have a newer LG model WM4370HA, so it was a little harder getting the selector knob off. I'm not sure if this was already existent, but part of the inner edge of the knob was chipped. To others who are experiencing this issue with the newer model knobs: take your time, pull strongly and slowly, and use a rubber band to give you a better grip. It was also a little tricky finagling it back into position but eventually I got it. This has been driving me nuts for the past few months so I'm so happy to have finally fixed this!

    This is a great tip!! Our LG washer/dryer had started to do this again (first board replaced under warranty), persevere when trying to remove the knob, it will detach! Just a couple of small squirts of WD-40/contact cleaner does the job. Make sure to line the knob up properly before replacing it. We worked the WD-40 in and it's now like a new machine! Saved us £100!

    I was pleasantly surprised. We did exactly what he did in the video and it worked. Before I would stand there for what felt like too long trying to get to the cycle I wanted. What he did fixed the problem completely. Thank you!
    We do have a slightly different model but the spin dial was still the same.

    Instructions are great! I was able to remove the knob, however, the white dome came off as well. I sprayed with W-d and had my husband put the knob back on. I am fortunate that the hooks did not break. Washer is working now when I select the command. Thank you. Saved us money!

    This was the answer to my problem exactly. Works like a charm now thanks. After two non productive phone calls to LG I did it myself. Only thing I would say is make sure the knob does come off form the front. I pulled and pulled mine only to realize I had to take the top off and pull the knob out that way

    Thank you so much for sharing this video. It's really helpful. Same problem occurred in our machine 2 days back.. We registered complaint in LG customer care and technician visited and said motor board is rusted and needs to be replaced. It will cost approx 7k for the same. Then after seeing your video, we ordered WD 40 (Rs 222) and it came today. We tested it out and after spray we waited for 10 mins to get the rust clean and it works wonders. Thank you so much for saving our hard earned money. God bless you ☺️🙏🙏

    OMG thank gawd this is fixed thanks to your help! I have model wm4370hwa. I used electrical cleaner spray. The knob has a flat spot on the outer bezel that LOOKS like a chip broke off, but it appears to be there by design and it helps get the knob off/on (when putting knob on, tip it slightly to have that chip/notch go in last).

    I was skeptical at first as this jog dial mechanism is not mechanical and I wondered how WD40 would help. I decided to give it a try as it was anyways not functioning. I just sprayed a tiny bit. Waited for a min or so...and voila! It worked. Now I just have to wait and see if WD40 creates an issue in the long run. No one has updated the after effects yet. I am from India.

    I have this same problem and will report back on the results. Any advice on what to do with the "sidekick" washer lid that thinks it's not closed when it is? That washer has been nothing but an expensive drawer within a year of purchase, and the repairman came and replaced the entire lid, only to have the problem happen again :(. We used to open and close it 10 times and it would finally start working, but no longer.

    Thank you for this great video! In our case, the selector light would advance one position only after turning the knob several clicks - and this was getting worse. I was about to buy a replacement control board but luckily I found this video first. I'm sure WD40 would have worked, but I decided to use electrical contact cleaner spray instead (e.g., CRC QD Contact Cleaner). Before spraying, I popped out the white plastic piece in the middle by gently pressing in the tabs to release it - this improved access to spray the cleaner.

    use electrical contact cleaner. There is a small electrical device that has oxidized contacts and once they are cleaned the system should be back in business....unless one of the led bulbs has burnt out and it will work but not illuminate like it should.
