@@firedirewolf So, minor historical note first: Since ships were always bouncing back and forth across the ocean with, it was common practice for sailing ships to signal across that they have letters home and request a home-bound ship passing them collect those letters. General etiquette on the high seas was that you accept the request, bringing the mail aboard your ship to carry it with the rest of your cargo. The Dutchman story eventually started incorporating this tradition as well, requesting passing ships send home their mail (if the ships survives and opens the barrel the mail was in, it's usually moldy letters for long deceased relatives). But the ship that collects the letters usually has to slow down as crew are working with precision to fish the barrel out of the ocean, giving the Dutchman time to turn around and effectively ambush the ship.
