    I was born in Springhill, through to training in pharmacy at Wardrope's Drug Store, in the Medical Centre at Main & Mac Farlane Sts., run by a tough ol' character: Mr. Crease, who was 84 at the time (my age now). He walked the mile down MacFarlane to Main, until his death, close to 90. The Springhill Fencebusters were the usual champions of the H & D baseball league ( the Halifax and Dartmouth) the only member outside The Halifax R. M. What a team! My dad, Geordie Hill was shortstop and he could jump from standing ten feet. Not many line drives got past him. There was horse racing there then, the track encircled the ball diamond. As a teenage starting pharmacy, I earned a lot betting show on a three horse race.
    David Murray was Anne's older brother, we had piano lessons together, and we started a band (trio) in Miner's Hall, and held a few dances. David's little sister was always wanting to sing with the band. We said "NO !" , and sent her home crying as older brothers do to a pesky li'l sister. "Sorry Anne, everyone has a bad day!!!" My dad escaped the disaster, being on a different shift!

      Thanks for watching John, and for the little extra added history. Springhill definitely has lots of that.

    Thanks for making this video. My mother grew up in Springhill in the 1940s to 60s and lived through the 1956 explosion, the 1957 main street fire and the 1958 bump. She's carried those memories with her to this day; it really affects a person. For all that Springhill has been through, it has perservered and remains a lovely town.

      Thank you so much for watching. I bet she has some stories and hopefully is doing better since her time there.

    I miss my old town, everyone moved to Dartmouth after the bump, as did we. I am the only survivor of my family now, hope to visit soon. John M. Hill, author "Strange Associations", and "Echoes of History", a what if story of Valium in WWII. John.

      I'm trying to get to many places James but not sure I'm going to make it. I wanted to check out there and Wolfville as well but money is tight and I'm down in Hacketts Cove til the end of the month. There's just so much to see here.

    Hello Wayne...I am looking to invest in rental property in Springhill. Is it an area you would reccommend?

    • @Wayneontheroad
      @Wayneontheroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Wendy, that is a pretty open question. For rental possibilities, sure, it might be an alright place, there seems to be a demand for rental suites here but also a lot of empty houses, so I don't know what that says about the towns economy. I'm no real estate agent or investor. As far as towns go, if I were moving to Nova Scotia it wouldn't be to Springhill, there are so many way more beautiful picturesque towns with thriving industries, artist communities, tourism etc. Just my personal thoughts.
