Glad to hear you're not typically a strap on guy! 🤣I was intrigued by those shoes, but they were released around the time I started going barefoot. Nice review!
That shoe looks awesome! I can squat in either flats or heels, but weirdly enough I actually need heels for my competition bench press. I find I can get way better and more consistent leg drive in the bench press if I have heels, may my lower legs are just to short and need the added height. Great video, looks like I'm going to get these or the adipower 3s next.
Another great video, B. I have been considering these for a while now. Romaleo 2s are still my fav. I recently got some original Adipowers, but theybare a half size too small.
Asics Tow 727 are the original wide toe box lifting shoe. I love mine but expensive and a pain to buy, with standard sizes only up to 10. That’s why I still haven’t gotten new ones after ten years of use
I have some Sabos that I like to squat in after trying flats for a bit. They're fine, but a bit cramped for my wide flippers. If they start wearing out, I'll probably look into some of these.
Yes on heels for me. I love my Adidas AdiPowers...I don't have a wide foot but my second toe is longer than my big toe and that can cause issues. The adipowers fit nice for me. But if they wear out someday I might try a pair of the tyr
Almost got these due to wide feet. Got some good ole Do-Wins as I was skeptical about dropping serious money on oly shoes, and they do the job. These look awesome though. Great review Man
I have a pair of Adidas shoes that fit like a high end hockey skate, which is fine because I'm used to that kind of fit, but it would be good to have some room for these long toes of mine to stretch out a little bit.
Definitely intriguing but I’m in the same boat - I only use heeled shoes for specific movements now. So I’ll just stick with my Adipowers until I decide heels are better again lol
The Do -Win weightlifting shoes were my absolute favorites- wore them out and then went to the Romaleos. Debating going with the TYR or going back to the ole faves
I have heard the Do Wins are on the wider size comparatively. If you have wider feet though, might make sense to go for the ones specifically made wider. If not, stick with what you know!
Unrelated to the video, im 14 and im trying to convince my parents to buy me a home gym. What power rack should i buy? I live in europe so my nr 1 pick, the rep pr-5000 v2, unfortunately doesnt ship to where i live. What rack would you recommend? Ideally under 1500 dollars with attachments and shipping included.
Hi, and thank you for the review. My size is usually between 9.5 to 10. Normal lenght foot, but extremely wide and high arch. Tried them from a friend of mine (9.5), and the lenght was ok, but they felt too snug and I had problems while closing the upper strap. So defenetly a 10, maybe even a 10.5. What would you reccomend?
Same here (I either squat barefoot or with compression socks), but was wondering about flat soled shoes to be used when working out while traveling (when the need to squat at gyms might make squatting with flat soled shoes preferable--for sanitary reasons?--to squatting barefoot or with socks). Any ideas?
I've always liked training with these minimal style shoes when traveling for 2 main reasons. 1st, they're lighter and take up less space than oly shoes. 2nd, I can wear them to walk to the gym and don't have to bring another pair of "casual" shoes in most cases.
@@BasementBrandon Thx. I don't have a pair of those (I'm guessing any zero lift shoe like Xero, Altra?, Vivo or even tai-chi shoes would fit the bill), but I do have "drivers" by Rothy's (moccasins with no heal and nubbed rubber soles...works in a pinch, but looks really goofy). I'll probably buy the cheapest zero lift athletic shoe to use for both squatting outside of home as well as walking. Xero supposedly has a 5000 mile sole warranty (hard to believe). As an added benefit, I'll get to see if zero-drop/lift is better for my body than super-cushioned walkers (pricey french brand...Hoka or Brooks).
@@BasementBrandon same, I thought I was going to do more olympic weightlifting and they were nice while I was. Definitely a great shoe, even for leg press
Do humans really need weightlifting shoes? Isn't it most natural for us to be barefoot, and isn't it easier to demonstrate our strength when we are natural? There is an idea I feel the most ground contact and stability when squatting barefoot.
@sotasaito6445 You do need weightlifting shoes for OPTIMAL performance in the Snatch and Clean & Jerk. Klokov has snatched barefoot before, but never in a comp.
Nike Romealos 2 for the win. I've had those for almost 7 years and they keep going strong. I'd grab a pair of these if not for the plastic eyelets.
I liked my Rom2s as well, but after wearing wider toe box shoes for so long, I can't go back to the tight toe box on them.
At about 6:00: "Typically I'm not really a strap-on guy." Either am I, but to each his own.
Always exceptions to the rule.
Glad to hear you're not typically a strap on guy! 🤣I was intrigued by those shoes, but they were released around the time I started going barefoot. Nice review!
Always nice to not spend money 😅
I like the velcro because it means I can skip tying the shoes. If it's good enough for my toddlers, it's good enough for me.
I feel that

Makes complete sense, I should have called that out.

No you got those other new fancy rom hybrids from Cast Iron
The Cast Iron shoes are a half size too big, but I am digging them. I am a sucker for cheap. ;-) @@BasementBrandon
[6:00] How could you say that with a straight face? Are you feeling well? Cheers for your feedback, as always.
😇
I think it’s funny I’m getting all white and black Dodge ram commercials on the basement Brandon video after he just sold his Chevy
They 👀

Right on!
Those look like awesome lifting shoes. I have the inov8 lifters and they are a bit tight in the tow box.
Strap on… haha
They're pretty solid!

I have not used but have heard the Do-wins are better about width than some of the other brands.

Ended up scooping a pair and I like them after using them for a month but back to using the GOAT Rom 2s.
Haha right on!

TBH if you're just starting out you just really need a squat rack, bench, bar, and some plates. I wouldn't aim to break the bank up front.
@@BasementBrandon alright, thank you. Big fan of your content btw
I have been lifting barefoot recently. It has been great. But these shoes look promising for those in the market.
Team flats here!
I lift barefoot too.
Still felt tight to me compared to other wide toe box shoes I've worn. I have 12's would have ordered 12.5's. For deadlifting I use NoBull trainers.
I do agree they're not as wide as barefoot shoes are. My NoBulls were super narrow however.
I would destroy the eyelets. I always crank hard on my shoes when tightening
Strap on guy... noted.

I might look into the "extra wide" version they now offer.
@@BasementBrandon Yes, but based on what I've mentioned, do you think I should go up half a size, or keep my usual? Thank you
@@an.20.24 I'd go up half size if it were me.
@@BasementBrandon Thank you
Do these have an insole with arch support? Like this a lot about my Reebok Legacy Lifter 2. Cheers
They do have insoles, but not a lot of arch support

Wonder how the new Antas would compare to these? I have rom 2s and the reebok cf74 lifter(which the tyr seems to br based off of)!
I've heard a lot of people like the Antas, but don't think I'll be buying any more heeled shoes!
@@BasementBrandon I understand as I can squat in barefoot/flats or heeled shoes! Just wanted to know how their toebox compares!
So what do you compete your squats in ?
Last few meets have been Tolos, Notorious Lifts, Reebok crossfit lite TRs (Power shoe)
6:00 "Typically I'm not really a strap-on guy."
Typically, huh? -_-
The pause lol
What are the models without the raised heel?
Can you let me know what you mean?
Do they run small? I heard they run a half size down and so I ordered a 10 even though im a 9½😬
I didn't find that to be the case for me!
My bodybuilder friends say they're perfect for leg press because of how stable and stiff they are
I would hate to buy a shoe specifically for leg pressing!
@@BasementBrandon same, I thought I was going to do more olympic weightlifting and they were nice while I was. Definitely a great shoe, even for leg press
Here for the shoe consolidation
Haha I've been trimming down a lot of stuff the past month or two, the purge continues!

Since I’m a white Supreme pizza 🍕 I’ll have to get these. 😂

Do people really hate the squat university guy? Haters everywhere I guess
He certainly has a lot of meme power, lol. I like him, his advice has helped me alot on keeping my joints healthy.
I think part of it is when you get to be known as "the guy" for something you tend to develop some dogma.
The width is overblown. It's only 10-15% wider. Barely a toe wider.
But given the option I'd rather have 10-15%
