    how it is that Mr. Broughton did not get more BIG assignments is more than distressing---it is criminal. He has absurdly talented chops---he is in a league of the best from Korngold and Steiner to Williams and Goldsmith.

    Agreed that Broughton is extremely underrated. Between this, and his scores for "Tombstone," "Rescuers Down Under," and the criminally overlooked "The Boy Who Could Fly," Broughton should be getting as much work as Williams and Goldsmith got in their heyday.

    • @stargazer90363381
      @stargazer90363381 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      His scores are great, but to think he deserves half the recognition John Williams has received is ridiculous. Not to mention John has written the scores to just about every memorable and is the second most nominated for an academy award behind Walt Disney. While "Tombstone" and "Rescuers a Down Under" are good movies they are not remembered for their scores. So, plainly put Bruce writes beautiful music but it doesn't compare to John Williams.

      @stargazer90363381 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When John is writing it is hard to find a job. That is because everyone wants the best. And unfortunately for Broughton he composed in an era already dominated by other composers.

    • @jandreidrn
      @jandreidrn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      stargazer90363381 Why is it ridiculous? John maybe the second most nominated composer but that also means he has the most losses of any composer. Just because Bruce doesn't get any opportunities to score lots of movies doesn't mean he's not qualified to receive equal recognition with John Williams since clearly he's a very talented composer.

      The string section is much louder than the original mix. Since this appears to be recorded by a single microphone in the audience it shows that it is the volume Bruce intended it to be. Strings have equal loudness as the horns and woodwinds. And I could not agree more. The countermelody the strings are playing throughout and especially at the end of the composition are the best ever recorded. It is unfortunately buried on the original soundtrack. Glad someone posted this.

    A masterpiece of film music. With influences and quotes,yes. But Bach, Beethoven and Brahms and Mozart are full with those, who cares after all this time. The final result is much better than the previous music that it quotes. Silverado should have won the oscar and still doesn't matter that it didn't. The composer Mr Broughton is a hero no matter what. It is an ingenious and timeless musical achievement and propells the film to the future in its own right. Mr Kasdan has formed something classic.

    This was of course the same year that Alan Silvestri had the night mainly devoted to his music, conducted by the proficient John Axelrod, and guest conducting the suite from Back to the Future. Reading some of the other comments, I too agree Broughton is an underrated composer, with many of his great pieces being overlooked, and especially this thrilling Western score. The applause at the end of this recital were weak in comparison to those given to Silvestri's works the same evening. I certainly don't put it down to quality of Broughton's calibre of scoring, nor the performance itself, but rather that probably for many in the audience, it would've been a new piece they were hearing for the first time, and it takes time to hear a piece, often a few times, to truly appreciate and love it. Such a shame. Such an underrated composer.

      ChuckRazor ah right I see, I must say I'm not too sure of the concert years and when they made their appearances. My confusion is obviously of 2011 then when they honoured Alan Silvestri. In a part of the footage just after he has conducted his suite from Back to the Future with the ORF RSO Wien, and returning to his seat in the audience, I see him return, and next to him is Bruce Broughton and Alastair King I see visible. I've obviously just assumed that was the same night Broughton performed. Clearly I was mistaken.
      Nevertheless, I maintain what I said about Broughton being an under appreciated composer who isn't given the credit where credit's due.

    • @jandreidrn
      @jandreidrn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aleks Damjanovic Yes I'm also aware of that concert; Broughton was there because he unveiled his new Hollywood in Vienna Fanfare which used a lot of Max Steiner music from Casablanca and Gone With the Wind. But if you read this owner's description, it's stated that this happened back in 2009. That was the year they honored John Barry; you can tell by the various videos of John Barry's scores being performed on the same stage on this page. Nevertheless it was an easy mistake to made and I'm happy to hear more music from Broughton in the comedy series The Orville.

    This sounds exactly like the movie soundtrack, including the absolutely disgustingly failed horn rips at the beginning. I hope that horn player was let go for that. How do you miss that easy fip like that? Also, why do they skip the intro for this piece? There are like 30 measures before this part that the soundtrack skips... idk why. It's a beautiful horn part.
