I had this happen myself. It BAFFLES me having to tell people im ALLOWED to defend my position its a RACE. They think if they get close that means they are entitled to the pass and anything else is you being a bad driver. Its such arrogance.
people like this are toxic. most of these guys dont know how to "race". they may be fast driving solo but haven't a clue how to go about racing and passing people. thats when they get frustrated and do dumb shit like dive bombing you and then blame it on you. worst part is that they wreck you, they get away clean and race over.

Lol on my screen he went flying in the air and did a barrel roll , Fun racing with you Ollie ! - F4 is full of totally entitled 14yr old go kart drivers that ignore iracing netcode and random damage - I think if tires didn't stay over limit and reactions from contacts were less it would be much better / support the drunk go kart driving.
From the audio I've heard of all the i-races ive watched, the voice of the knob that took you out is the same voice that is involved in quite a few other instances of take outs where they didn't have the space to make the move but did it anyway.
The guy annoyed me and I wasn't even racing him.

when i was growing up Karting i was told if you go around the outside of someone expect to be pushed off, i don't really know what you expected, not alongside at all.

The halo bar is interesting in VR as you don't notice it even though it's right there, cause you can look beyond it at the corner in a way you can't on screens.
"It's not that bad ..." Yes, it is. It was a very risky move trying to squeeze into a gap that was likely to get tighter. It's usually down to impatience.

To give another idea of the chaos with this combo, yesterday i was in a 2nd split fixed race, started 14th and finished 2nd having made exactly ONE on-track pass.
Oulton Park is a bin fire. I did one race and sacked it off for the week.
Next 3 weeks will be epic in the F4 though - Road America, Suzuka & Interlagos
I recently started iracing a month or so ago and ive loved the f4s so far but the past week i get people just sticking their nose in anything if i run the slightest bit wide, its been frustrating when im fighting for a podiums and such.
I recognise a few names in this lobby from my time and this chatter was quite common lol
Congrats for racing whilst chat is on. I always have that turned off in this series, too much back and fourth on the comms, I can't focus
I am a B class driver now... I love the F4, one of my favorite cars to race. BUT, the tracks that don't have the courage higher risk corners that stratify the field, there tends to be a lot of impatience... So much so I had to take a break from F4/ iRacing... I think LMP3 and Radical might be better classes since they don't just fall apart lol. Tends to be calmer heads too.

I don't think you over-reacted, 95% of top split are IRL kart drivers who have little race craft, you're right to react in the way you did, think the regulars in F4 need a solid lesson in driving standards as it's turned to pot in terms of quality of standards and respect, I've also been a victim of top split shenanigans, got taken out by Otis Lawrence (the 16 year old who just got banned from one of the biggest e-sports leagues in F1 23)

Yet when you look at the replay even Ollie said he over reacted, purely a racing incident, Ollie missed the apex so the guy behind went for the gap and Ollie closed the door, he makes alot of mistakes himself

Even a half-hearted apology is better than you get from most of these lobbies. But lordy the quality of drivers in the iRacing game is...well, I'm lost for words after another week of horrendous driving standards. I had one guy ask why his car didn't go invisible when he drove into another driver I honestly thought I was being trolled at this point. Good mentally to just let it go and move on wish I could after being crashed or taken out in similar circumstances.
Plus i don't think offtracks would contribute to safety, as they don't make you unsafe, x2 and x4 fair enough, be awesome if offtracks counted towards disqualification still, but only spins n contact affected SR
Out of the series I do (Both Formula Fords, F4, F3, GT4, GR86), F4 has BY FAR the lowest driving standards in my opinion. I've gotten so much better over the last 9 months at choosing my battles in those other series and don't get into incidents on lap 1 anywhere near as much. But F4 I still get taken out lap 1 around 50% of the time. Easy for me to say, but I do also think I am pretty objective after the fact with analysing my own responsibility in an incident (voice chat is disabled for me to give me that chance to chill and then objectively look at the replay haha).
Last two times in F4, the guy in front of me jump started, and then about half way down the start/finish straight decided to park in the middle of the tracks when I was about 0.3 seconds behind. Then next race, a guy gets a great start but instead of backing off when he caught up to traffic in a congested track within the first 3 seconds of a 15 minute race, looked up at the Senna quote framed on his wall and tried to slip through a gap with 0mm to spare, pushes that car into me and I end up beached on the pit wall before turn 1. The car that created the accident drives off into the distance with no issues, chooses not to apologise either now or at the end of the race. That sort of stuff should be protestable imo, there is no difference between an intentional punt and going for a move that has a 99% chance of disaster for all involved, except for intent.
I think standing starts definitely play a part since some people are so much better at them than others but it just doesn't seem AS mad in F3.

You are easy to understand but i have to admit that I have problems to understand clearly what the other players are saying over the voicechat. Maybe its just me, but the quality is very poor. So subtitles would held a lot to get the gist and (maybe) the jokes. best redgards an keep on pushing!

It sucks and its waste of time to even protest. People like that finish in nice positions while taking people out left and right. I dont know how they can feel good about the placement after the race like that. This bs is happening in my races so often and there is not much to do about it. You defend your position and they start to rage and just divebomb you out of the track. Its funny that they dont get any major damage to their car, but mine is always towed out of the track.
My opinion iracing need to ban the mic chat during a race. People talk to much. Not focussing when you do. Ruining my safetyrating 😂

You should at least talk into chat when the race is over, there’s plenty of time before the server close. There’s no need to talk all the race long, keeping the chat busy. I usually turn it off because of this, but it will be useful to have it and should be used only when necessary. And yes, ranting or joking while the race is still on is useless because 1 all the people in the race don’t want to hear it 2 you always have to watch the replay of the crash before discuss it, preferably when the race is over.
So the person who you’re trying to talk to can instantly disconnect? Remember it’s a public race and not some esports event so a little fun never hurts anyone

Races every hour so it doesn't matter if they crash out -- high IR so loosing 100ir doesn't matter, they still make top split -- no demotion back to rookie class so SR doesn't matter -- Fast hot lappers that cant race with other cars that might potentially be slightly slower in some areas -- No stewarding to punish "unsafe" drivers -- Drivers that if you don't do the race like they want to they split their dummy's out.
The F4 is one of the best cars on the service, its a real shame. The open setup needs to be moved to C or B class, longer races (30mins) just like advanced Mazda!

F4 is always a shitshow. The cars are crazy fun but this series is the open wheel equivalent of fixed Ferrari.
Locked up and slid up the corner, giving him a lane......that early into the race, he should have been a lil more sportsman like....
There's wayyyy too much ego at play in F4 and F3 from what I've seen. Puts me right off. If he wasn't so focused on catching the leader and calling people out for defending then he would have a bit more awareness of the situation.
The 2nd incident is annoying too. Tell me you've not practiced an alternative line into turn 1 without telling me 😂

It was pretty bad, jamming your nose in like that right in the middle of a hairpin is just wildly irresponsible. It's nice to see an actual apology for it, though. It's always funny when people get mad that you're defending - does their logic not equally apply to attacking? He could have lifted and you would have taken your normal line. Pure ego BS.
The other incident is obviously pretty bad, too, but IMO you should have known he'd leave no room on the outside after the way he took his line in the last corner. I immediately thought "what if Ollie was still there on exit?" and then got the answer the very next corner.

I had to stop driving these races because of how absolutely horrendous the racecraft is. Genuinely awful and unbearable.
sadly it's the same in nearly every series I've raced in, the only one that wasn't like it was the Radical SR8, any contact was damage, likely a meatball, so there was respect.

You reacted in the heat of the moment, pretty much like any driver would, its only once you watched the replay can you see a different take on it, you did nothing no one else would do
I wouldn't call that an overreaction at all - kind of an underreaction, honestly. I'm not one for cursing people out on the radio, but I can certainly understand if you'd had a much bigger explosion off the mic. I'm primarily a stock car racer, and I am a little less bothered by minor contact than most of the open wheel guys, but that doesn't mean just anything goes. Yes, you drifted a little high in the hairpin, but that was not remotely enough space to even consider driving into - like you'd have to realize it would only result in a wreck. Frankly, given the full context, I think he knew what he was doing and thought he had a right to, because him.
There's a lot of over-aggression on iRacing in general, and I'm not entirely sure what the urgency is to take the risks people are taking - and to drive like absolute clods much of the time. I'm talking about not just dive-bombs like that, but also the blocking, slide-jobbing, and shoving people off the track / into walls - at times, for irrelevant positions early in races.

I would say the reaction was justified. Nothing worse than an MASSIVE MELON with an ego on iRacing. Makes my blood boil when I hear guys in chat asking people to move out of their way or asking why they are defending.
I was accused of “blocking” and threatened with a report because I moved once to cover the inside line lmao people are way to over privileged and think the track is personally their own and everyone should get out of their way.
You're good, have every right to react that way. Protest him and get him banned for a week.
