    I think that you will enjoy the Alligator Farm. It used to be a tourist trap embarrassment. But, it's now more like an instructional zoo. Very interesting. I'm not able to drive yet, or I'd enjoy assisting while in the St Augustine -Amelia Island area. Safe travels.

    You can anchor in St. Augustine, right in front of the Fort. Just outside of the City Marina mooring field, directly in front of the cannons they shoot off several times a day, very cool. Then dingy in and and tie up at the city marina just on the S side of the bridge.

    Have a question for you, I've always wanted a trawler, anyways with just having the single screw diesel and I'm sure no more than 300hp. Are you able to still make way if you get into a situation fighting wind, current and swell?

    • @Tulasendlesssummer
      @Tulasendlesssummer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      120 hp. Our max speed is prob 7 knots but I would never push it to that. I have yet to encounter a 7 knot current except in the cape fear river in NC. If we encountered anything above a 4 knot current I would turn around and try again when the tide switches...

THANKS. i AM LOOKING AT A 32 PACE MAKER TO DO THE GREAT LOOP. KINDA WONDERING ABOUT COST OF GAS GER HOUR AT A SLOW SPEED LIKE THAT MAYBE 5-7MPH AND CAN YOU JUST USE 1 ENGINE AT A TIME AND SWITCH OFF? tHANKS.

    How fast will your boat go if you run at full throttle? How many gallons per hour do you burn while going 5 knots compared to at full throttle?

    • @Tulasendlesssummer
      @Tulasendlesssummer  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      prob 7 knots but would never test it with our old engine. we burn 2 gal/hour at 5.5 knots towing our 16 ft whaler

    • @ShaneMillin
      @ShaneMillin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gotcha. Thanks for the reply. 2gph isn't as bad as I thought it'd be! I hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get the boat fixed. I can't imagine fixing a tranny on an old engine like that is cheap.

    Can newer trawlers (not brand new, but like 90s) go faster than 6mph for entire trips?

    • @1958johndeere620
      @1958johndeere620 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Speed is fuel... Yes, some can go faster, but you go from 3 to 4 mpg at 5 to 6 knots to 2 gallons per mile real fast. The draw to trawler " hull speed " is the lower cost per mile.

    • @samstiglitz8008
      @samstiglitz8008 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So it's possible with more modern engines without overheating? Could an engine go 10 or 15 knots for an entire day without risking mechanical issues?

    • @1958johndeere620
      @1958johndeere620 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hull design has a lot to do with it too. Some boat hulls will do the same speed no matter what. I have a friend that had a displacement style hull and he went from a 454 gas big block to a 135 horse diesel and the boat went the same speed but used 1/4 of the fuel. The more he pushed the hull the more it would dig in. It does seem the newer trawlers do have more power, and may do a little more speed. If you want to go fast go with a sport fish style boat. Newer engines with electronic fuel systems do have more power per cubic inch then the older mechanical engines did. Just remember one thing, if you make 180 horsepower with a engine and then have the same engine with 370 horses it is not going to live any where near as long. A marine 6bt cummins can be bought with horsepower levels from 210 to over 435. The 210 is going to last longer.
