    Great video. You come across as one of the good guys turning wrenches. I would have no problem letting you work on my Elantra. I always get nervous when I have to turn my vehicle over to a mechanic because I've been screwed a few times by them. I used to do all my own work because of that. Age and health however has caught up with me. God bless you and your family and keep up the good work!

      Hi , im not familiar with that tucson model, but any other car with manual transmission you drain the manual transmission fluid. And for the clutch fluid, if its external you can just put the whole slave cylinder assy to the side,if its internal slave cylinder i guess you have no choice that some fluid will come out. Great video! 👍 Is it necessary to remove the sub-frame because it is an AWD model? Would it be easier to unbolt the transfer case? One of the things I loved about working on Hyundai is that I never had to remove the sub-frame! (None AWD, None DCT).
    Last question, when you're pressing the clutches back into the input shaft, how do you know the depth? Does it just bottom out? Or do you just go deep enough for the snap ring to fit?
    Thanks!!!!!

    • @hyundaitech
      @hyundaitech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi eric feli, thanks for the comment. When i do transmission for me its easier to remove subframe since theres more space when i line up the dowel pins from then engine. Unless i know that theres some components from the subframe that are seize or stuck thats the time i leave the subframe and just work my way around it.
      For the dct installation , i line up the clutch part to the starter housing and i know i have enough space for the snap ring ( sorry its hard to explain) im gonna be doing another dct maybe next week then i will post a follow up video.
      Or what you can do is you can put a marker on the top of the clutch to the transmission case before you remove the whole assy then you can just line up your marking when you install the clutch. I hope that helps

    Great! I am going to have my DC pack replaced probably next week at dealership. It is second DC pack to be replaced during 4 years (current milage: 47k km). First one was replaced because of the vibrations on low speed (bulletin) - so I got revised part which fixed the vibrations issue and it last only 26k km! I am getting second revision of the part now, but still wondering what makes this thing to wear out so quick... I am not an aggressive driver and I think it should last at least for 150-200k km. Do you see lots of Tucson's coming for clutch replacement? What is the average milage?

    • @hyundaitech
      @hyundaitech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the drivers driving habits, if the driver is always on the stop and go traffic usually it tends to fail sooner compare to the driver driving on hi way traffic.

Based on test they performed it shows 80% health for clutch #1 and 60% for #2. The problem is that it slips under the load - when going uphill. 26k km on the clutch pack is way to low! If you understand that a dual clutch transmission is a manual transmission with a computer attached you can adjust your driving habits to a degree. One of the things I figured out is these vehicles come with a 30 second Hill hold function. This is essentially slipping the clutch which causes somewhere and can cause a lot of heat. Minimize your creep to close the gaps between you and the car ahead if they just moved six inches don't move 6 chest. Every time you let off the break and the car moves you end up with that 30 second hill hold slipping the clutch. To be clear I am not a mechanic I have done a lot of work on my own cars but that doesn't make me a mechanic. That makes me gifted amateur. What I have spent over 35 years doing is working with all kinds of computer systems. From the big ones you used to see with in the movies with the blinking flashing lights and the tape drive spinning to ones you hold in your hand. I understand how programmers think I also understand how programming logic works within a system. Free tip Saturday when you're gassing up your vehicle or fueling, when the handle clicks off stop right there just stop. If you overfill the tank you'll destroy your charcoal canister assuming you have one depending on where you live. Not really expensive but not too cheap. Squeezing another cup or two of gas into your tank isn't going to do anything for you. Take care!

      I would think possibly some damage could occur. If the computer doesn't know the point at which contact is made with the clutch to engage and disengage it could try to move the Pistons for lack of a better word too far. Essentially these are manual transmissions controlled by a computer. They don't have tactile since I've touched that you and I have so that we can feel when we're pushing the clutch and when it disengages or when it's starting to engage. I would think it's a critical step. Just my shade tree mechanic opinion. I will bow to the expert as to the validness of my opinion.
