It would be more correct to say that Korea is surrounded by those countries, since they're in the right middle of those countries. China in the west, Russia in the north, and Japan in the east.

Actually, Japan's geography is beneficial too. Thanks to it being an island nation, it is nearly impossible to invade it successfully.

Mongols would have taken over Japan if not for the typhoons, I doubt mountains would've 100% stopped them. Especially with japan being so close to the mongol empire.

Funfact - Japan's economic and buisness model is copied all over world , japan would have surpassed USA's GDP in 90's but since japan is satellite country of USA . USA didn't want japan to surpass USA , From there Japan's economy didn't grow and even today after 3 decades still Japan's economy is almost same as it was 3 decades before .

As a South Korean I can confirm Japan basically acts as a geographical meat shield for most natural disasters; most earthquakes happen there, tsunamis are blocked by its land, and typhoons are weakened by the time it, if it even does, reach South Korea.

It can be said that Japan's technological capabilities have developed precisely because of its scarcity of resources.
As Japanese I don’t understand how you internet can be this sure about the positivity about japan without living there. Yep it’s very productive, safe, developed country which has one of the best gastronomy. However it has also the biggest rate of death by overwork, and suicide rate between 15 and 25. I’ve only lived in two country in my life and my annual salary is 4 time less than Japan after my immigration to France, but I can live as human with mental health now 😊
The self-sufficiency is important but it's not all about how the countries work. The rapid decreasing of population seems to be even more serious issue over there than lack of the natural resources. And as someone said, not having the land borders is also an advantage.

Japan might have one of the worst geography but Japan is one of the best country to live in, their food, culture, cities and people are S teir for me. I would wanna travel there one day, people there are very nice and generous their cities are best. Most people know Japan because of Anime or Japan's food but I think the world could learn a lot form Japan its surprising how fast Japan grew in the last few decades after the world wars and the nukes drop on Japan its grown didnt stop the whole would should take inspiration from Japan.

That’s exactly the thing. People either claim that they know Japan from anime or from stuffs like “Why Japan is the best country”. In reality, it’s much shittier.
Harsh working environment, which contributes to Japan’s highest suicide rate and increasing living price (because of how densely populated the cities are) are the two main things I don’t really like about living in Japan.
Besides, Japanese aren’t too fond of foreigners who actually live there. If you are a tourist, okay. But if you settle there, they won’t be too welcoming.

The old empires invaded other countries and still have territorial disputes which is with China, Korea, and Russia. No other countiries in the world have territorial disputes with all three at the same time.
