The irony of Veruca Salt is how different Julie Dawn Cole was from her. Veruca was a spoiled, only child with a wealthy(ish) father. Julie was a well mannered, second child of a divorced mother who lived in a poverty stricken neighborhood. And the only real confrontation she ever had was competing with Denise Nickerson for the affection and attention of Peter Ostrum. Though I don’t if you could call it confrontational. What’s more, she was often told by the director to be nastier. Clearly it didn’t come naturally to her.
The dentist in Little Shop of Horrors wasn't just cocky, he was a narcissistic sadist who beat his girlfriend (the original Audrey) which was how Audrey II convinced Seymour he was a perfect target
Tim Curry is the most delicious villain both in voice and acting. Jared from Labyrinth is a close second to many of Tim Curry's evil characters, including Lord Darkness who sadly didn't have a song just perfected evil.
I nominate “You’ve Got to Pick a Pocket or Two” from “Oliver” wherein Fagan, the corrupter of children, charms Oliver Twist into the joys of criminality in mid 1800s London.
You sure it's not "Where is Love" thats the ultimate villain song in that one? That greedy little boy, always wanting more - and he just has to get attention too? Jeez! Kids these days... er, those days.
I agree; Ron Moody was brilliant casting. He was nominated for an Oscar as Best Anchor, but lost out to Cliff Robertson in “Charly.” I’d have voted for Moody. A memorable performance!
I still remember when my former godmother introduced me to “Labyrinth”, I used to go to her place, which is in Maine, all the time and I loved doing so. I’m just “sad-mad” that she and my mom got into an argument, and she probably doesn’t want to interact with any of us anymore😞.
Is Jareth really a villain? Sarah wished her brother away, one might sat he was teaching her a lesson (be careful what you wish for). Isn't he more of an anti-hero or anti-villian?
I think Jareth is what some people would call "chaotic neutral"--he isn't trying to be hurtful, he just doesn't follow the same moral code as humans that says "kidnapping babies so you can try to enthrall their older sisters is wrong".
I don't see him as villain. He fullfilled her wish and took Toby away, he gave her 12 more hours, he didn't treated Toby bad (probably even better then his family did... he actually spent time with him, cheered him up, made him laugh while his parents prefered to go to parties and his sister was so annoyed she wished him away)

They don’t follow the same rule ps as humanity… if anyone was the “bad guy” it was Sarah’s parents. She outright voiced that she didn’t want to look after Toby but they ignored her. They neglected her wishes and well being and in turn means they neglected Toby as well (also pretty telling that they rathered go out “every weekend” as sarah states then care for their baby)

I clicked as soon as I saw Bowie. Labrynth was my daughters favorite movie when she was young. . Dance Magic was a great song. Everything about that movie was amazing !!!!
Little Girls from Annie, I hated Miss Hannigan, but now as an adult…I would drink too, if I have to put up with hyper kids that would make me lose my temper and patience
Two things. One. I always think of "Easy Street" as the villian song from Annie. They are singing about pretending to be Annie's dead parents in order to get money. Miss Hannigan had the necklace. She never bothered to tell Annie her parents were dead. That's a villain. Two. The only song I remember from Labyrinth is "Magic Dance". That was my jam as a kiddo.
Let's be fair though its kinda similar to #2 as If wasn't for having it performed by such an epic talented legendary musician it probably wouldn't work (heres at the reboot of hocus pocus coming out without Bette on why it will fail)
David Bowie and Jim Curry on the throne. Not surpised. Just legendary and so deserved. Voices and singing styles so great and unique they make me shiver every time. Love it. And just can't help being charmed by good villains and their catchy songs.
Excellent list! So glad to see Pete's Dragon to get some love; as that movie seems to be mostly forgotten. I suppose animated villain songs were omitted, because Scar and Ursula both have songs that would rank very high on this list.
OMG I remember listening to the song "Every little piece" from Pete's Dragon when I was a little kid. This villain song clearly sets up the nostalgia that came with what’s otherwise an underrated classic live action Disney movie ever.
I say Dance Magic should've been #1. David Bowie was truly a great singer. If only he was more into the Muppets, then we could've had a cool Labyrinth sequel before he died.

When I saw Labyrinth the first time when it came out, that's when I fell in love with David Bowie. I was 7 years old and told my parents that I was going to marry him LOL. I still think Sarah was an ungrateful brat. She asks him to take the baby sl he does and she acts like he's this awful villain, so okay, he plays this out for her and pretty much lets her be the hero of her favourite book and still no damn gratitude. I'm pretty sure he could have easily trapped her in the labyrinth forever if he really wanted to.
Im pretty sure I fell in love with David Bowie at the exact moment he said "Just fear me, love me, and I will be your slave." 😄My biggest crushes as a little girl (like, maybe 5-7 years old) were David Bowie, Tim Curry, Steven Tyler, and Hans Conried (he was the voice actor for _Captain Hook_ and was in Dr. Seuss' live-action _The 5000 Fingers of Dr T_ as the villain, as well). I was a strange child.

I cant help but think of his song Within You, as Sarah gets closer to saving her brother if u listen u can kinda sense that he doesn't want to b alone. He uses his powers to prolong the adventure so there r other humans besides him. The end scene between Jareth and Sarah is his last attempt at not being alone.

“The Wind in the Willows”, has a great villain song. Former Monty python members star in this 1996 film. My favorite is when the villains, including henchmen Weasels, sing “Secret of Survival”, a song and dance routine that makes you like them, even though they are the bad guys.

While I have a deep appreciation for "Sweet Transvestite" despite not liking Rocky Horror (Because I still can't help but love Tim Curry no matter what), for me the ultimate villain song is now and forever "Dance Magic Dance." Labyrinth was one of those gateway movies that helped me figure out who I was and what I loved and gave me the strength to tell all the other kids I grew up within small-town Oklahoma that could go F themselves. I never fit in as a kid, but as an adult I'm having the last laugh.
A villain's presence is not enough unless they have brains, diabolical plan, killer clothes, lethal powers and a phenomenal song. Once the tune us sung, they become *ICONS*

When I first listened to the Harry potter audiobooks, I recognized Jim Dale's voice, but I didn't remember where I recognized him from! And then I realized: he played Doc terminus in "Pete's Dragon"!
I didn't remember him from that movie, I knew his name because I saw him on broadway in 1980 in "Barnum" with Glenn Close. He got the part because he showed up for the audition, tripped on the curtain, fell down, picked himself up, and never stopped singing the whole time. Once during a performance he broke an arm in act 1 and finished the show before he let them take him to a hospital. The man is incredible, and deserves a lot more stardom than he got.
Sweet Transvestite is a phenomenal song (as are all of the songs from that show/movie) and is definitely the most iconic and referenced RHPS number after Time Warp, but I have to say that the whole Floorshow sequence takes the villain musical number prize for me. The sequence is a celebration of his triumph - think about it: he is the only villain out of all of the ones shown to actually succeed in persuading his "victims". No matter how you look at it, Brad and Janet are definitely swayed. Do you really see them just going back to being Sally Sweet and Johnny Goodboy? No way!
I love Tim Curry as a pirate, but there's just something about Tim Curry in heels, pearls, stockings and those heels. And his voice is just seductive in that song. Also, wish they'd put his Ferngully song on this list. His voice is amazing in that one too.
Tim Currys just awesome at whatever he plays. I heard him dubbed "everyone's favorite villain" and I have to agree. Often it seems as if his character is actually a victim not the villain. Excellent list! So glad to see Pete's Dragon to get some love; as that movie seems to be mostly forgotten. I suppose animated villain songs were omitted, because Scar and Ursula both have songs that would rank very high on this list.

OMG I remember listening to the song "Every little piece" from Pete's Dragon when I was a little kid. This villain song clearly sets up the nostalgia that came with what’s otherwise an underrated classic live action Disney movie ever.
I say Dance Magic should've been #1. David Bowie was truly a great singer. If only he was more into the Muppets, then we could've had a cool Labyrinth sequel before he died.
The problem is Disney owns the Jim Henson company now. I don't think David Bowie would agree with all of the woke crap they are doing. None of David Bowie and Jim Henson's ideas would fit the woke narrative now.

When I saw Labyrinth the first time when it came out, that's when I fell in love with David Bowie. I was 7 years old and told my parents that I was going to marry him LOL. And low-key when I babysat my cousin and he wouldn't stop cry-screaming I tried the whole "I wish the Goblin King would come and take you away, right now.", it didn't work. Probably a good thing but I would totally be Jareth's queen. "Just fear me, love me and I will be your slave." um, okay! 😎👍
I still think Sarah was an ungrateful brat. She asks him to take the baby sl he does and she acts like he's this awful villain, so okay, he plays this out for her and pretty much lets her be the hero of her favourite book and still no damn gratitude. I'm pretty sure he could have easily trapped her in the labyrinth forever if he really wanted to.

Im pretty sure I fell in love with David Bowie at the exact moment he said "Just fear me, love me, and I will be your slave." 😄My biggest crushes as a little girl (like, maybe 5-7 years old) were David Bowie, Tim Curry, Steven Tyler, and Hans Conried (he was the voice actor for _Captain Hook_ and was in Dr. Seuss' live-action _The 5000 Fingers of Dr T_ as the villain, as well).

I love David Bowie's Magic Dance it makes me smile. I cant help but think of his song Within You, as Sarah gets closer to saving her brother if u listen u can kinda sense that he doesn't want to b alone. He uses his powers to prolong the adventure so there r other humans besides him. The end scene between Jareth and Sarah is his last attempt at not being alone.
The dragon's name in "Pete's Dragon" is Elliot. Pete is a little boy.

“The Wind in the Willows”, has a great villain song. Former Monty python members star in this 1996 film. My favorite is when the villains, including henchmen Weasels, sing “Secret of Survival”, a song and dance routine that makes you like them, even though they are the bad guys.
By that standard, I think every song in Chicago is a villain song, except for Mr. Cellophane.

No one can ever top Carol Burnett as Ms. Hannigan. She's freaking amazing. Pretty Women was a freaking amazing duet and I enjoyed it. Tim Curry is a freaking amazing actor who plays great villains. Magic dance actually made me buy Labyrinth. I also own Hocus Pocus on VHS.

Bugsy Malone is such an enjoyable movie. And that one song just means more the older I get: "We could've been anything we wanted to be and who's to say we didn't try?" Not the actual lyrics on the latter half but it's how I always sang it lol

Sweet Transvestite is not only the best movie villain song, but one of the most influential on people. I can pretty much guarantee a lot of people in the lgbt community including myself, was awakened to that side of themselves due to it. And who can’t love Tim Curry rocking those tights ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

While I have a deep appreciation for "Sweet Transvestite" despite not liking Rocky Horror (Because I still can't help but love Tim Curry no matter what), for me the ultimate villain song is now and forever "Dance Magic Dance." Labyrinth was one of those gateway movies that helped me figure out who I was and what I loved and gave me the strength to tell all the other kids I grew up within small-town Oklahoma that could go F themselves. I never fit in as a kid, but as an adult I'm having the last laugh.
A villain's presence is not enough unless they have brains, diabolical plan, killer clothes, lethal powers and a phenomenal song. Once the tune us sung, they become *ICONS*

I’d switch out “Feed Me (Git It)” with “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space”. “Feed Me (Git It)” was already from the original off-Broadway musical, whereas “Mean Green Mother from Outer Space” was an original song made directly for the film adaptation. And was the first one to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song, as well as the first one with profanity to be nominated.
Little Shop of Horrors had 2 villians and one became the other's lunch. That said I liked the Dentist's You'll be a dentist as much as Audrey's Feed Me.
Little Shop of Horrors was truly a great movie, much better than the theater one.
What's funny is that for a second I thought you were talking about Seymour. I mean, as much as he needed the money, he could have decided that a plant that lives of preferably fresh blood could only lead to trouble. And that's BEFORE A2 encourages him to kill people for plant food.

Tim Curry begins and ends this countdown. That's pretty freaking great.
When I first listened to the Harry potter audiobooks, I recognized Jim Dale's voice, but I didn't remember where I recognized him from! And then I realized: he played Doc terminus in "Pete's Dragon"!
I didn't remember him from that movie, I knew his name because I saw him on broadway in 1980 in "Barnum" with Glenn Close. He got the part because he showed up for the audition, tripped on the curtain, fell down, picked himself up, and never stopped singing the whole time. Once during a performance he broke an arm in act 1 and finished the show before he let them take him to a hospital. The man is incredible, and deserves a lot more stardom than he got.
Labyrinth was an awesome movie. RIP David Bowie…

Sweet Transvestite is a phenomenal song (as are all of the songs from that show/movie) and is definitely the most iconic and referenced RHPS number after Time Warp, but I have to say that the whole Floorshow sequence takes the villain musical number prize for me.
The sequence is a celebration of his triumph - think about it: he is the only villain out of all of the ones shown to actually succeed in persuading his "victims". No matter how you look at it, Brad and Janet are definitely swayed. Do you really see them just going back to being Sally Sweet and Johnny Goodboy? No way!

Tim Currys just awesome at whatever he plays. I heard him dubbed "everyone's favorite villain" and I have to agree. Often it seems as if his character is actually a victim not the villain. An it's the same for Bowie character. Such a bad little girl.
