Magic? Now that IS poppy! Written by Mike Moran I believe. In order of album release, my top 5. 1. Snake Charmer 2. Run With The Wolf 3. Sensitive To Light 4. Eyes Of The World 5. Black Masquerade Honourable mentions, Run With The Wolf, Freedom Fighter, Bring On The Night, Can't Let you Go, Ariel.
Martin and Pete - another great show. Always like to hear your interplay and choice of tracks but your wandering discussion in the last few minutes was particularly enjoyable to hear. Looking forward to your next show together Thanks, gents, for an entertaining time and a deep list which will be listened to in the near future.
I think I can also speak for Martin here, that if he and I lived closer to each other we'd be getting together regularly to just hang out and talk music. It's always a pleasure having a conversation with someone who is as passionate about the music as I am, and Martin is definitely one of those people.
Great video again 👍 I was a huge Rainbow fan in the 80s but had not listened to them in some time, but then I saw your previous videos on the history of the band and your rankings of the album. Been listening to them a lot these days.
FREE dom fighter yes man what a master solo, of blackmore so INCREDIBLE sound , respect man, this is definitely a solo that few people would recommand , because they are not aware but this few notes in the beginning are so roaring, like a thunder is coming on you ! keep up the good work !
Hello Pete. A great choice. Beside Purple the mighty Rainbow is my favorite Rock band, mostly about Blackmore, but also with great Dio and Powell as a trio infernale. My deep cuts are - Temple of the King, Do you close your eyes, Run with the wolf, the Shed, Makin love, Danger zone, Jealous lover, Fire dance, Desperate heart, Snowman
Pete, Thanks for representing the Dougie years in this. I got the album on the day it was released and I love it and I was fortunate to see them on that tour at Hammersmith in London in November 1995. I’d go for Wolf to the Moon or Black Masquerade. However the drumming on that album is pretty piss poor. But I love the songs Here’s my 5 deep cuts. 5. Snake Charmer 4. Rainbow Eyes 3. Magic 2. Desperate Heart 1. Black Masquerade
DIO era is my favourite . My top 5 deep cuts from non Dio from each album. 1) EYES OF FIRE ( straight between the eyes) 2) DANGER ZONE ( Down to earth) 3) NO RELEASE ( Difficult to cure) 4) HUNTING HUMANS ( stranger in us all) 5) SNOWMAN ( Bent out of shape)
I agree in full with your lists, ten great deep cuts and some other mentions that are great. I only want to ad one song to yours and it is Bad girl, a song I believe (not quite sure) was only released on single in 1979 and then on the Final Vinyl album. A great deep cut for me.
1-Temple Of The King(Rainbow) 2-The Shed(Long Live Rock 'N' Roll) 3-Can't Happen Here(Difficult To Cure) 4-Eyes Of Fire(Straight Between The Eyes) 5-Fire Dance(Bent Out Of Shape) Shoutout to Lost In Hollywood :)
Great Picks, tho I don't think Temple Of The King and Can't Happen Here are deep cuts. "Temple Of The King" is the 2nd most played Rainbow song on Spotify with 21 million plays and one of the most famous Rainbow songs on TH-cam(its lyric video has 32 million views) "Can't Happen Here" was a single with a promo video which was all over MTV.
@@LuchaLibertaria i always considered Temple of the King an underrated song, and i didn't know Cant Happen Here was a single, otherwise i wouldn't have plugged it, i don't pick singles for this, sorry i didn't do much research on this :(
My Top 10: - Eyes Of The World (Down To Earth) - Black Masquerade (Stranger In Us All) - Fire Dance (Bent Out Of Shape) - Freedom Fighter (Difficult To Cure) - Vielleicht Das Nachster Mal (Difficult To Cure) - Makin' Love (Down To Earth) - The Shed (Long Live Rock n Roll) - A Light In The Black(Rising) - Self Potrait (Debut) - Eyes Of Fire (Straight Between The Eyes)
@@LuchaLibertaria So, if the original singer sings it and it's on some greatest hits then it is a deep cut, but if they wait 20 years and a different singer sings it then it isn't...sounds like you're a prisoner of the moment.
@@independenceltd. More like: A replacement singer sings a song, they do a tour playing that song and after that tour is over, they never play that song again for the next 40 years and counting Vs. A song that if a non-Rainbow fan comes across this video and thinks 'whats this band they are talking about' and searches for them on Spotify, it would show up as 2nd most famous Rainbow song.
Kind of surprised to hear you guys sort of talk down the first Rainbow album. I think it’s a classic from start to finish. I love every second of the first 3 albums.
Sea of Tranquility This might be a little blasphemous, but I think the first Rainbow album is the best. There is something “pure” and idealistic/innocent about it, at least to my ears. The second album is darker and heavier, which isn’t a bad thing, but my heart picks the first one.
@@davel7791 Hey, perfectly ok! I know plenty of people who prefer the debut. Nothing wrong with that...we all hear these albums differently, and that's the way it should be.
At last I have found someone who agrees that Lost in Hollywood is the best track Rainbow did..But Light in the Black is still my Favourite..Great discussion, Love all the stuff u guys do. ♥️
My guess about the album "Down to Earth" is that Rainbow, today, is mostly thought of as the start for classic Ronnie James Dio. People who don't like the more sort of AOR direction doesn't give anything post "Long Live Rock.." a chance and therfor the Graham Bonnett album (and the later with Doogie White which definitely does NOT sound like Joe Lynn Turner) get lumped together as "Joe Lynn Turner" kind of music. Sort of an ignorant thing going. Everyone doesn't have to like everything but it's the way people talk about things they really don't know much about that can be negative. My Deep Cut Fiver from Rainbow: - Jealous Lover - Sensitive to Light - Lost in Hollywood - Hunting Humans (Insatiable) - Silence
Here´s the deep cut list from my favourite band of all time: 1. Lady of the Lake 2. Run with the Wolf 3. Rainbow Eyes 4. Love´s no Friend 5. Eyes of Fire Having seen the reincarnation of Rainbow three times I have to agree with you, Pete - you get mixed emotions seeing your hero performing your favourite songs without the heart really being into it. I guess it´s in Blackmore´s Night, nowadays. Still great memories from the shows, though.
I love Down to Earth, and I saw the concert with that line-up, 30 Jan 1980. It was an excellent concert, different and heavy.. (and I saw 24. Sept 1976 Rainbow, so I could compare)
I actually like all phases of Rainbow. I grew up with the radio hits with Bonnet or Turner and later discovered the Dio era. Depending on my mood, I'll listen to something from almost anywhere in the catalog.
@Martin Popoff sorry for the bad langauge martin, but i just dont get the rock critic, if its classical ,like beethovens 6th or bachs brandenberg concerto ,they are masterpieces, regardless of age , when it comes to rock, we go threw life knowing rainbow rising is there best, then 44 years later someone says its not, but then i'm a grumpy 63 year old , who saw rainbow at the hammersmith odeon i 1976, martin , you should have been there, to stand before blackmore and dio in 1976 , the planets were aligned
@Martin Popoff If anyone told me that Rising cold be argued as "not" Rainbow's best album I would simply ask, well what do *you* consider to be their best?
"Temple of the king", from FIRST ALBUM. "No release" and "Vieleicht das nächste mal", from DIFFICULT TO CURE. "Weiss heim", from FYNIL VYNIL. "Anybody there", from BENT OUT OF SHAPE. Instrumental songs are always underrated, so I put them majoritarily here.
Great Picks there but Temple Of The King is not a deep cut. Temple Of The King is the most popular Rainbow song on TH-cam with over 32 million views, and 2nd most played Rainbow song on Spotify with over 21 million plays. It's a signature Rainbow tune. Dio was playing that song on his solo shows.
@@LuchaLibertaria Ok, new times, new information for me! "Temple of the king" was not so popular in my times of teenage and LPs and cassette tapes, early 80's, here in my little city in Brazil... And I should say, I stopped following Dio's solo career by the time of SACRED HEART's release, without seeing a show. Thanks!
@@zeelias_zezito65 I guess thats the case with Temple Of The King, you know sometimes deep cuts get more popular with time. You got great Picks there btw 🤘🤘🤘
You know I found your videos once this covid nonsense started and I've been taking a deep dive into Deep Purple and the whole Deep Purple family tree. It's funny you mention Freedom Fighter. I have been playing that song everyday lately. But I'm one of those Liberty small-government guys so there's that. What I've been doing though is when you do these deep dive shows with your friends, if I don't know the song real well I'll stop the video and I'll listen to the song and then I'll come back and keep going on your video. I've learned it's a pretty cool way to watch your videos. Thank you for all the hard work you do man God bless you.
hi both ... I'm with Martin... Down to Earth is my fave Rainbow album ... and Lost in Hollywood is a barn stormer ... and of course Cozy Powell is fantastic on this album 👍🏻✌🏻
I have to disagree. After Dio left Rainbow I lost my interest. Down to Earth just doesn't have the same magic as the Dio era albums. The Turner era has a couple great tunes but all the best stuff comes from the first three albums, in my opinion.
5) Midtown Tunnel Vision~Difficult To Cure 4) Eyes Of Fire~Straight Between The Eyes 3) Ariel~Stranger In Us All 2) Sixteenth Century Greensleeves~Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 1) Lady Of The Lake~Long Live Rock And Roll
I know I’m odd, but I agree: Down To Earth, my fave Rainbow album. Cozy, Airey, then there’s Glover who without any soul searching, philosophical judgement, seamlessly makes the switch to Ritchie’s new ‘power pop’ style, losing none of his heavy sound in the transition. Graham Bonnet, GRAHM BONNET!?! No one comes before Dio, but from out of nowhere, comes the 2nd best vocalist in Rainbow’s catalogue. Sadly, for only one album. Ritchie is a genius and an unapologetic prick all at once. He somehow realizes the the largely unheard of, punk, new wave styled Bonnet would excel in the new ‘hard, heavy, metal pop’ Rainbow he was envisioning. He was more than right. Bonnet had unmatched range, balls, power, grit and crunch. He could do it all. Onstage, he could regularly turn out the screams within losing any of the grit, very Daltrey-esque. Why was he fired?? He was too new wave-punk..., but Ritchie knew that when he hired him. Shame. Blackmore’s skills shine bright on Down To Earth, perfectly combining heavy chunky riffs, expert lead as well as dreamlike slides. All in all, Down To Earth is hard, heavy, classic Blackmore Rainbow, thinly disguised as ‘Pop’. The only letdown is the somewhat weak, thin production, credited to Roger Glover.
margus kiis You’re technically correct. It’s hard getting to the root of the story. Best I can decipher, Ritchie wanted him out because he refused to conform visually (appearance, clothes, hair length...) to the ‘hard rock image’. Bonnet was showing up at the studio (presumably for the ‘Difficult to Cure’ sessions) and had started writing and recording demos with the band, minus Ritchie. Ritchie never showed. Bonnet could’ve sat waiting in that studio for a year, Ritchie wasn’t coming. In typical Blackmore style, word ‘came down’ (most likely through Glover) that the band would be ‘moving in another direction’. It’s either that or Bonnet got fed up with the inactivity and left. The truth is evasive on this one because there’s a few different versions of the story floating around out there. But the only version that really matters is Ritchie Blackmore’s. And Ritchie has been quoted numerous times saying that he fired Bonnet. He’s even been quoted saying, at the final show with Bonnet (Donington 1980), when he walked onstage he got so angry when he saw Bonnet’s new short haircut, he seriously considered walking up behind the singer and smashing him over the head with his guitar. The absurdity of firing such a gifted vocalist over his short hair and ‘new wave style’ makes perfect sense in Ritchie’s world, so that’s the story I’ll always believe. The one from Ritchie’s mouth: Bonnet was fired. Either way it’s a shame.
@@michaelr4063 RB, like Dio used to talk every kind of shit about some his ex-collegues. I`m not taking it very seriously. Fact is, Bonnet is an amazing frontman and used to overshadow Ritchie a lot. That made RB angry. But he didn`t fire Graham, he just let him go and decided to find another singer. He found JLT, who is a good singer and good looking but very very boring onstage. So Ritchie could shine alone again.
margus kiis Rainbow is Ritchie’s band, he ‘let Bonnet go’. So, isn’t that the same as...? I’ll bow out and say you’re correct. I think we’re both at pretty much the same conclusion, but we’re using different terms. Bottom line is IMO Bonnet was gone far too soon and it drives me nuts because I think the Bonnet fronted Rainbow had a lot more to give us than one album. I’ve been trying to figure that one out for so long, but the reasons, the quotes.., they constantly change throughout the years on all sides. So what I said was the most likely (to me) scenario boiled down to a few sentences. But you may be 100% correct. I’ll never know for sure, I wasn’t there. Gillian left DP, we all know why. Dio left Rainbow because he didn’t wanna sing Ritchie’s new ‘pop, love’ songs, OK. But Bonnet’s departure is a f@@@in mystery. Ritchie loved (still does) his voice and Bonnet loved being in Rainbow. Bottom line is the fans lost out when Bonnet left (I said it. He LEFT lol). You did bring something up that I’d never considered; Ritchie’s ego. I know Ritchie’s an egomaniac, especially on stage, to all of our benefit. But I never considered a lack of confidence, being overshadowed on stage aspect. You may be onto something. Gillian? VERY powerful onstage. Dio? Same, could hypnotize an audience reading the phone book onstage. Bonnet? Such a powerful voice, bright colors, good crowd interaction, fan-friendly. JLT? Powerful studio voice, but weak sorta ‘chick friendly’ onstage. Which is EXACTLY why Ritchie fired JLT, lol. Too feminine onstage! Another story, lol. Long live Ritchie Blackmore. Long Live Rock And Roll. Peace

Personally, I don’t think A Light in the Black gets anything like the recognition it deserves, but that’s life in the shadow of the wizard for you!! It’s clear Martin loves Lost in Hollywood, so we’ll let it go that it was on the Best of Rainbow compilation😉 Lots of great deep cuts from this band, so hard to choose only 5, but here goes (trying to give a shout out to all the singers): Temple of the King LA Connection Danger Zone Midtown Tunnel Vision Black Masquerade Coincidentally, Temple of the King came on in my local pub last week while I was enjoying a cold one (or two)🍺. Doubt there was many in there would have a clue who it was🤘🏻
Ritchie Blackmore can do anything he likes with his bands, because he's Ritchie Blackmore, and the main attraction for me, regardless of who else happens to be sharing the stage. I was very pleased to have the opportunity to finally see Rainbow in concert, and, as far as I'm concerned, the band was far more impactful in reality than it appears in TH-cam videos. I think Cozy, and even Graham Bonnet were bigger losses to Rainbow than Ronnie James Dio. Deep cuts: Lost in Hollywood, Love's No Friend, Miss Mistreated, Tearing Out My Heart, Black Masquerade, Ariel.
@@SamQuentin Yes. Roger was strong in the writing department, which might have been Bonnet's weakness. Joe Lynn Turner was a good writer, if you like that style of music.
before having watched the video, my choices: Self Portrait (more laid-back than the opener, with Dio´s vocals sounding effortlessly heavy) Tarot Woman (ethereal keyboard run in the intro, driving main riff and killer solo) Weiss Heim (B-side from ´78, Blackmore´s love for classical music shines through especially on this track) Snowman (instrumental song again, this one´s quite on the prog side) Ariel (brooding, epic track, with excellent vocal perfomance from both Candice Night and Doogie White)
Lady of the lake Black sheep of the family Self portrait Temple of the king Snake charmer And I like the version they did of Mistreated off the live album
Great choices but "Temple Of The King" is not a deep cut. It's the 2nd most popular Rainbow song on Spotify with 21 million plays, one of the most popular Rainbow songs on TH-cam(its lyric video has 32 million views) Dio was playing that song on his solo shows. Even Axel Rudi Pell's cover of the song has 6 million views on TH-cam. It's a signature Rainbow song.
I only have the Dio era Rainbow. To me that is the best part of the Rainbow years. I've always loved Temple of the King, Tarot Woman and Rainbow Eyes. Three great songs three great albums.
"Gates of Babylon". Best song on "Long Live Rock'n'Roll". Never heard it on radio. Never heard a live version (from Rainbow). "The Shed" "Lady of the Lake" (catchy as hell) "Maybe Next Time" "A Light in the Black"
Although the hit singles come from the latter line ups and albums (Stranger In Us All notwithstanding), a large number of the Ronnie era songs are very iconic and there are possibly more deep cuts later on. 1 Snake Charmer 2 Run With The Wolf 3 The Shed (Subtle) 4 Love's No Friend 5 Danger Zone 6 No Release 7 Midtown Tunnel Vision 8 Tearin' Out My Heart 9 Make Your Move 10 Too Late For Tears.
Mine are 1. Lady Of The Lake 2. LA Connection 3. Lost In Hollywood 4. Temple Of The King 5. Snake Charmer 6. The Shed 7. Run With The Wolf 8. Starstruck 9. Hunting Humans 10. Rainbow Eyes
With bands like Rainbow that had multiple singers and lineup changes, for some folks there are no deep tracks from their favorite lineup but they maybe completely unfamiliar with the songs from a particular lineup that they never got into.
1. Self Portrait 2. If You Don't Like Rock 'n' Roll 3. Run With the Wolf 4. Lady of the Lake 5. L.A. Connection 6. Makin' Love 7. No Release 8. Bring on the Night (Dream Chaser) 9. Stranded
Martin, I think you meant he knows how to 'wring that neck'! Hehehahaha. I always felt that Ritchie was feeling the competition and felt he had to play faster and crazier on those later albums. He had to contend with the Yngwie factor and I think his playing suffered for it. Still... I love nearly everything he's done.
Self Portrait - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow Rainbow eyes - long live rock and roll Freedom fighter - Difficult to cure Eyes of Fire - Straight between the eyes Fool for the night - Bent out of shape.
Did he really just say only 3 songs off Rising are good. Do you close your eyes is a bit filler compared with the rest, but Tarot Woman,Run with the wolf, and Starstruck are killer

Lucha Libertaria - If you click on the TH-cam video in question, you will see it has no likes. Perhaps software was used to manipulate the numbers? Anyway, to my knowledge Temple of the King appears on no compilations or live albums. According to setlist.fm Dio played it only a total of 16 times, mostly on one tour. Also, you’ll notice it was not mentioned by Pete or Martin in their recitation of the popular Rainbow songs, and they did discuss that debut album. So I stand by my pick! Anyway, long live rock & roll!

Lucha Libertaria - Well I’m pleased to see the song has grown in popularity! Honestly though, I’d never encountered that song, and I was lucky enough to have an older brother who had all the albums, and he took me to see them in NYC in ‘82. Even in all the subsequent live albums and compilations I don’t believe that song appears. Yes, I know Ritchie occasionally plays iTemple of the King with Blackmore’s Night, as it’s the Rainbow song most closely resembling medieval music, but needless to say baroque music is hardly mainstream (and any cut from Blackmore past the 80s is definitely a deep cut!). By the way, Ritchie’s wife & singer Candace went to the same high school that I did. They are neighbors of a friend of mine. Small world!

I didn't pick "Lost in Hollywood" cuz it's on...their first greatest hits. I had a feeling Popoff would pick it though, cuz I'm pretty sure I've heard him sing its praises. And I know that it's from his favorite Rainbow album. It's funny that he mentions nearly everyone in the band's performance on the song except for Blackmore's. Cuz I'd rate the solo in LIH as one of Ritchie's top 3 solos. Love it. I almost went with "The Shed (Subtle)" as well, but I felt the need to have at least one from JLT.
The solo on Lost in Hollywood is great. Bonnet is not one of my favorite singers, but he does a good job on DTE,when it would have been tough for anyone to follow Dio.

Thanks for that guys. I probably play the 'Long Live Rock 'n' Roll' album more these days. I like 'Down To Earth,' but as a 15 year old I remember being a bit disappointed after the Dio era. I'm not into 'All Night Long' particularly and I loathe 'Since You've Been Gone, but I really like the rest. I was never a fan of 'Difficult To Cure,' and I still hate 'I Surrender,' 'Spotlight Kid' is good and I like 'No Release' and 'Midtown Tunnel Vision,' but songs like 'Magic' and 'Freedom Fighter' are banal. 'Can't Happen Here' is ok, the lyrics being the best part, but 'Difficult To Cure' is so naff, and 'Maybe Next Time' (excuse not putting the German title because I can't be bothered to keep looking at the spelling). Besides 'Death Alley Driver' (which isn't brilliant but is pretty good) I don't like this album; a track like 'Power' feels so lazy, just knocking out a rubbish filler amongst an album of other average songs. Out of the three Turner albums I probably like 'Bent Out Of Shape' the most, and I think Ritchie is playing better her than on the previous two.I'm not a fan of ballads but I like 'Can't Let You Go,' mainly for Joe's excellent vocal. Without looking at the album sleeve it's not a particularly memorable album, yet, even though this and the other two Turner era albums are way down in terms of quality compared to the Dio material, I still quite like 'Bent Out of Shape,' kind of best of a bad bunch. Ritchie had quite a fondness for playing fourths, especially during this era and so the songs are somewhat predictable. Dougie sings really well on 'Stranger In Us All,' but it's not a great album and it feels very samey. The recent gigging of 'Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow' is pretty bad. As Pete said, Ritchie seems like he's going through the motions. I also think Ritchie is struggling to paly like he once did, which I believe is down to his arthritis, so he has lost quite a bit of dexterity. Ronnie Romero is the best part of the band as the rest is pretty pedestrian, and we don't need female backing singers. It's odd, the band lacks any fullness of sound like earlier incarnations of Rainbow and obviously Purple, and the playing is dull. I love Ritchie but I hope he doesn't do this again, and sticks to his acoustic material. However, he has left us with such a wealth of wonderful music that we still listen to today, it's timeless.
The Temple of the King, Run with the Wolf, L.A. Connection, Eyes of the World, Death Ally Driver. Disagree with Martin don’t see any questionable songs on the first side of Rising. Rising is one of the top ten greatest hard rock albums ever top to bottom.

Lucha Libertaria - Ok but was it ever played live by Rainbow during the Dio era? I can’t find any, remember that album came out in 1975. Maybe we’re just seeing people discovering a deep cut. Either way great song by an incredible band with a catalog full of timeless classics
@@captainbeyond7469 Deep Purple hasn't played Highway Star in over 20+ years, but its still one of the most famous Deep Purple songs.( A song May not be featured on setlists but can still be very popular) Btw, Rainbow was playing Temple Of The King on their 2017/8 Reunion tour. Before that Dio was playing it on his 2005/6 tour and if you watch the live footage, You can see crowds erupting with excitement when they hear the opening notes of Temple Of The King. In 2014,there was an all star tribute to Dio, and it was one of the 11 songs that made the tribute album, it's a signature song. Currently its the most popular Rainbow song on TH-cam (its lyric video has 32 million views)
Lucha-Deep Purple plays Highway Star at EVERY concert they perform to this day. I've seen the band at least a dozen times in my life, and half of those in the last decade or two and Highway Star is always played. As for Temple of the King- never released as a single, not played on radio, not played live by the original band, and not part of classic live albums or hit collections. It qualifies. The current incarnation of Rainbow played less than a half dozen shows in total, so I don't think a handful of live plays or Dio playing it on one tour disqualifies it here by any means.

Martin and Pete another outstanding in-depth discussion. Thank you. Buy the way I agree with Martin and Pete, Down to Earth is a GREAT Rainbow album.
Excellent show. I love to go back and "dive" after you guys are done. Thanks, as always.
Great. really enjoyed listening to you both. I love Rainbow and all the bands in the Deep Purple and Whitesnake family.

Great video again 👍 I was a huge Rainbow fan in the 80s but had not listened to them in some time, but then I saw your previous videos on the history of the band and your rankings of the album. Been listening to them a lot these days.
FREE dom fighter yes man
what a master solo, of blackmore so INCREDIBLE sound , respect man, this is definitely a solo that few people would recommand , because they are not aware
but this few notes in the beginning are so roaring, like a thunder is coming on you !
keep up the good work !
Im like a freight train feelin’ no pain.. love it
But I love the songs
Here’s my 5 deep cuts.
5. Snake Charmer
4. Rainbow Eyes
3. Magic
2. Desperate Heart
1. Black Masquerade
Here is my selektion.
1. Gates of Babylon
2. The Shed (Subtle)
3. Tarot Woman
4. Magic
5. Bring on the Night (Dream chaser)
DIO era is my favourite . My top 5 deep cuts from non Dio from each album.
1) EYES OF FIRE ( straight between the eyes)
2) DANGER ZONE ( Down to earth)
3) NO RELEASE ( Difficult to cure)
4) HUNTING HUMANS ( stranger in us all)
5) SNOWMAN ( Bent out of shape)
Very good choices
I agree in full with your lists, ten great deep cuts and some other mentions that are great. I only want to ad one song to yours and it is
Bad girl, a song I believe (not quite sure) was only released on single in 1979 and then on the Final Vinyl album. A great deep cut for me.
1-Temple Of The King(Rainbow)
2-The Shed(Long Live Rock 'N' Roll)
3-Can't Happen Here(Difficult To Cure)
4-Eyes Of Fire(Straight Between The Eyes)
5-Fire Dance(Bent Out Of Shape)
Shoutout to Lost In Hollywood :)

@@LuchaLibertaria Thank you bro 👍👍👍
Can't Happen Here was on the Very Best of Rainbow. Not a deep cut.
My Top 10:
- Eyes Of The World (Down To Earth)
- Black Masquerade (Stranger In Us All)
- Fire Dance (Bent Out Of Shape)
- Freedom Fighter (Difficult To Cure)
- Vielleicht Das Nachster Mal (Difficult To Cure)
- Makin' Love (Down To Earth)
- The Shed (Long Live Rock n Roll)
- A Light In The Black(Rising)
- Self Potrait (Debut)
- Eyes Of Fire (Straight Between The Eyes)
Eyes of the World is on a couple of greatest hits and was played almost as much as Temple of the King.
@@independenceltd. yeah but the last time Rainbow played that song Jimmy Carter was the president of the USA. 😎😀😀
Kind of surprised to hear you guys sort of talk down the first Rainbow album. I think it’s a classic from start to finish. I love every second of the first 3 albums.
I'm not down on it, just don't think it's as strong overall as the 2nd & 3rd...definitely some classics on it for sure.
@@seaoftranquilityprog Yep, you're right! Love your show. Thanks for the good work.
My Deep Cut Fiver from Rainbow:
- Jealous Lover
- Sensitive to Light
- Lost in Hollywood
- Hunting Humans (Insatiable)
- Silence
Here´s the deep cut list from my favourite band of all time:
1. Lady of the Lake
2. Run with the Wolf
3. Rainbow Eyes
4. Love´s no Friend
5. Eyes of Fire
Having seen the reincarnation of Rainbow three times I have to agree with you, Pete - you get mixed emotions seeing your hero performing your favourite songs without the heart really being into it.
Depending on my mood, I'll listen to something from almost anywhere in the catalog.
is that guys nuts!, side one of rising substandard, tarrot woman , run with the wolf, starstruck, oh my gawd!!!
...but side two is twice as good.
That guy? That's Martin Popoff!
@@Danimal77 never heard of him , i know he's talking bollocks
0:55 ...Funny, I was kiddingly going to put that song in my top 5.
5) Midtown Tunnel Vision~Difficult To Cure
4) Eyes Of Fire~Straight Between The Eyes
3) Ariel~Stranger In Us All
2) Sixteenth Century Greensleeves~Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow

Fav Rainbow Deep Cuts: 1) Lady of the Lake 2) No Release 3) Eyes of Fire 4) Fire Dance 5) Vielleicht Das Nachster Mal
Bonnet wasn't fired. He left himself .
margus kiis You’re technically correct.
Peace

Bringing in Roger helped to offset the loss of Dio. Blackmore Glover Powell Airey and Graham is a hell of a lineup.
@@SamQuentin Yes. Roger was strong in the writing department, which might have been Bonnet's weakness. Joe Lynn Turner was a good writer, if you like that style of music.
Rainbow Eyes is a beautiful ballad...
before having watched the video, my choices:
Self Portrait (more laid-back than the opener, with Dio´s vocals sounding effortlessly heavy)
Tarot Woman (ethereal keyboard run in the intro, driving main riff and killer solo)
Weiss Heim (B-side from ´78, Blackmore´s love for classical music shines through especially on this track)
Snowman (instrumental song again, this one´s quite on the prog side)
Ariel (brooding, epic track, with excellent vocal perfomance from both Candice Night and Doogie White)

@@brucefranklin6295 Absolutely. It's a must have album for any hard rock/heavy metal fan.

Great Picks but "Temple Of The King" is not a deep cut. It's the 2nd most popular Rainbow song on Spotify with 21 million plays, one of the most popular Rainbow songs on TH-cam (its lyric video has 32 million views), even Axel Rudi Pell's cover of the song has 6 million views. Dio was playing that song on his solo shows as well. It's a signature Rainbow tune.
Sea of Tranquility Agree totally Pete.
