  • The iPhone 11 Pro has a great triple-camera system, but how does it stack up to a DSLR? Today, Krazy Ken takes an in depth look at the differences between the photos each camera produces. Check below for high-res samples from the video and for FAQ…

    FAQs
Q: Why did you use an ISO of 2000 vs a lower ISO on the iPhone?
A: I used a higher ISO on the DSLR to match the exposure, visually, to the iPhone. Remember, different devices have different native ISOs. If I would’ve matched the DSLR’s ISO to the iPhone, the image would be dramatically underexposed… and useless.
Q: Why not open your lens more, and use a lower ISO?
A: The technical reason: that’s as open as my lens went (when matching the iPhone’s effective focal length). Sorry x_x
Q: Okay… then why not slow the shutter?
A: I don’t like to use a slower shutter because I was holding the camera, and breeze was blowing the pedals. I’d rather correct a little noise than correct shutter lag.
Q: Why not use the same settings on the iPhone as you did on the camera?
A: Again, different devices do things differently. The iPhone uses 3 cameras, plus in-body stabilization, plus loads of post-processing to achieve a single photo, so it can get away with settings like a slow shutter-which would not be ideal on a DSLR without a rig to stabilize the camera.
Q: Why not use a tripod and steady the shot?
A: (I think I mentioned this in the video) but since I was handholding the iPhone, I wanted to do the same for the DSLR. I didn’t want to add extra equipment in the test-which would add even MORE variables.
Q: Why make such an unfair comparison?
A: I explain this in the video, but since you’re asking… I’m merely showing the similarities and differences in the photos. These are two TOTALLY different devices, and there is no 100% fair way to compare them. Most people get the message, but some have a problem with that. I’m okay with people challenging my samples and discoveries, but please backup your theories with samples of your own (which, by the way… no one has done-so I think it’s all hat and no cattle with some of the pedantic folks).
