Been there done that on my '95 Dodge Ram... I tore my front end completely apart including the control arms... Paid sixty bucks for the auto shop to remove and press the new ball joints on the control arms. I installed new control arm bushings, inner/outer tie-rods, pitman arm, idiler arm, sway bar links, shocks & alinement.... cost about 700 bucks all together. Thats been 4 years ago & the old dodge is still steering straight down the road.
Wow must be nice living down south. No snow, Hardly any rust and warm weather. Total opposite here in Ohio. Snow out the ass, Cold weather and all the road salt rusted cars you can shake a stick at. lol. Good videos as always Ryan, Keep them coming!
Yeah MS summers remember them well. 100 degrees with 100 percent humidity do it felt like. Car tags... New cars yeah depends on the age and type. Mom paid 800 bucks for her new tag some years ago. In Texas now. Whole different world. The car was a Buick Roadmaster. Good video
A few things, Bro' put it back together she had more life Very informative! Need to do my 94' Ram And now ya got me thinking if I want to get involved, HA!
If you buy the parts at Autozone they let you borrow the tool for free, i will do the upper and lower Joints on my Jeep ZJ 96 soon, the ONLY parts i didn't change. About 35 years ago i had a 67 Camaro with a worn control arm and brazed in a new ball joint, bottom line it worked but always better to try to do it by the book.
the reason it kept spining when you where done. was because when you pressed it out the way you did. you messed up the whole the ball joint goes into. should not have pushed it up on an angle like that. but other than that your vid was informative tnx for posting.
Mu dodge truck 04 is squeaking driving me crazy is this what I have to do? and it seem likes it just on my side of the truck even when I get out it squeak
So to every one who said never weld on the balljoints, I pressed in new uppers and lowers from autozone made it from my shop to my driveway and one poped out! Got pissed at autozone went to deler, when at deler i was telling the counter guy what happend he says hold on calls a old guy from the back who tells me on 2Gen rams they put three spot welds with a short arc welder to keep the new ones in place. Now im sure if it turned like the one in the video they would replace the arm.
I am a mechanic and have been for 23 years . Every mechanic I've worked with has had some choice word's to say when it's not going right , maybe the part's department has ordered or given you wrong part and will take day's to get the right one leaving the vehicle stuck on your lift . Nobody is perfect maybe you are but give the guy some slack he took the time to make a video holding a light camera trying to do a bitch of a job with the wrong tool's . Oops I said a bad word
