I really think you should listen to some songs from Red in their OG versions. Cause there’s the most emotion there. It’s raw. And when she re recorded it she sound more older, and the emotion is kinda gone because she’s not in that point anymore like at all. Like listening to “All Too Well” the Og version will be more emotional. Cause you can hear the pain.
Can someone appreciate this bridge please, "You show me colours , you know I can't see with anyone else. You taught me a secret language, I can't speak with anyone else. And you know damn well, for you I'll ruin myself a million little times".
it sounds like it’s from the view of “the other woman”. illicit affairs has the best bridge out of the whole album in my opinion always love your reaction to Taylor’s songs!
Hope you'll continue with evermore right after folklore... I personally feel like evermore doesn't get enough recognition from a lot of people (i'll include Taylor cause where the hell is the long pond session for evermore😭) Also illicit affairs is my fav from folklore 🥺
in her old song "you should've said no" she talks about her or the one being cheated on's perspective and in another song called " better than revenge" she calls out the other woman and paints her as the villain. but in this song, she shows how she has matured and realized things aren't as black and white as you want them to bed and that the other woman isn't always the villain. also, she showed in " august" that sometimes the other woman/person is just hopelessly in love with the other partner. in this case, it's illicit and from the lyrics, I gathered there's an age gap and probably a power in-balance, the person speaking here is the young lover bc they say "don't call me kid". also, in the pond sessions, she said that she basically has always seen the other woman as someone who is bad and takes what is yours but she grew up and realized that no one can take what is actually yours and if her lover cheated on you then they chose too, the other person didn't force or steal them.
I complete agree with you about some songs like this one feeling too short because you get lost in it. This one of my favorites, just the guitar is enough to take me somewhere else.
It's all from the perspective of the other woman. But it's portrayed in a way that doesn't make her out to be the bad guy and that she's suffering just as much from the guys infidelity as the actual partner. She obviously loves this man, but she's just this man's side piece and knows that it will never last yet she can't let go. That concept is quite similar in Right Where You Left Me which is an Evermore bonus track where the man has left her to build a new life with someone else yet she is stuck in time and can't move on from him.
Yes -- just, yet, one more example of the lyrical genius that is Taylor Swift! I know very few song writers who could describe things with the words, innuendos, and metaphors that she does all so perfectly! Thanks for another thoughtful and thorough reaction.
@@carolinamansur113 An "innuendo" is alluding to saying something, but very slyly, because the reader or listener has to "read between lines" to understand it. It's hard to explain, but I would say it used more in a passive/aggressive way, then in a positive way, although an innuendo could be used either way. That's best I can explain it. In a way, it is somewhat like a metaphor, just structured differently. Does that make sense? I can't even come up with an example right this moment! I'm obviously not as clever as Taylor is 🤣
I just thought of this -- One example may be saying something that sounds like a compliment, but reading between the lines, you realize it is not a compliment at all, and what is said is a sarcastic way of dissing the person.
There another masterpiece of storytelling in Red.. Starlight it is about Ethel and Bobby Kennedy when they began dating and it brilliant, from Ethel’s point of view and also heartbreaking because we know what happened... It isn’t just Taylor’s lyrics that are pure poetry or her sublime bridges. Every song intro, every arrangement is brilliant and distinctive and a part of the story telling..
i love illicit affairs and invisible string so much (both with an i just like i fell for cruel summer and cornelia street on lover, or champagne problems and cowboy like me and closure on evermore, i might have a pattern) omg i always love your reactions and interpretations and how you pay attention to the lyrics, i can't wait for mooore taylor swift suffi's version
It's funny to see how the word "illicit" or "clandestine" aren't so clear to English speakers (I have seen different reactors look the meaning up) when in Spanish are so easy to understand.
Yeah.... I can say the same about Portugues I was just thinking about it, how funny it is that literally anyone in Brazil would understand those words, even if they knew nothing of English
This song is written in a way that the side chick is talking about herself. That’s why the last part of the bridge sounded heavier because it’s the “revelation” part.
if you’ve heard of the love triangle, in my opinion this song is august’s point of view of her affairs with james. the song august to me is before she finds out about betty and she feels like she’s his, meanwhile i like to think that this song is after she finds out but loves james too much to give it up.
I think the whole song is from a woman’s point of view..she is single and having an affair with an older married man…she can’t tell her friends and she knows that she is ruining herself and her life for a relationship that has no future
where's your dictionary? This is Swift! 😂 Mercurial -- comes from Mercury, Greek mythology messenger/courier god. very fast, but fleeting. now you see it, now you don't. At the beginning, SHE WAS TELLING HIM TO COVER UP. It is all from the woman's perspective.
Totally right. It’s said that she broke up with mr. Styles because of his infidelity. Now pair it with the much more mature Style’s in his song Boyfriends. Interesting. I think this is what Taylor means… She was very hurt. I’m not super Taylor Swift but some songs are great Both. Mercurial here is seen more like a personality trait. Basically is “hot blooded”
I must say, I keep getting shocked about how many people didn't know the meaning of illicit or clandestine. English isn't my mother language and I knew these words, so I was really surprised. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that both words are latin rooted and my mother language is Spanish, which is also latin rooted and maybe that's why I knew the meaning. No offense to anyone! I'm actually curious bc my English vocabulary is not that rich either 🤣
I should say this: I personally would prefer if you reacted to songs (from any artist) *before checking official explanations* and theories, part of the fun of watching reactions is to see what the person comes up in their heads as what must be the meaning behind it. Also, genius explanations are only worth when clicking the lyrics, the small text at the top many times is just an overall resume of what the song is, there are no backstories or "clues" there, so you could be essentially just getting a spoiler if it was a movie, instead of a review full of missed details.
For those of you looking for more Taylor content, Lover, 1989, Red (Taylors Version), Reputation Tour, Long Pond, and more are all up on Patreon

I've been appreciating it with my whole heart since day 1🚶🏻♀️masterpiece
I appreciate it every damn day
It's now my favorite bridge, specially the eras tour version
it sounds like it’s from the view of “the other woman”. illicit affairs has the best bridge out of the whole album in my opinion
always love your reaction to Taylor’s songs!
Yes illicit affair’s bridge is up there with Last Great American Dynasty, Cardigan and August.
I agree with you about the bridge, up there with Treacherous
"Don"t call me "kid"
Don't call me "baby"
Look at this godforsaken mess that you made me"
Taylor Swift's bridges remain superior
another song about being in an affair is "Ivy" and i think it's safe to say it's one of fan favorites. tho i believe that one's on evermore.
yes it is! beautiful song.
Evermore is the greatest- right where you left me will always be my fave
Coincidentally, both are Track 10 songs in their respective albums
Illicit affairs is my absolute favorite in this album and it's criminally UNDERRATED
The entire album is an amazingly therapeutic experience. A masterpiece in form of music.
Her word choices are incredible...Mercurical....who puts into a lyric...Taylor does
Hope you'll continue with evermore right after folklore... I personally feel like evermore doesn't get enough recognition from a lot of people (i'll include Taylor cause where the hell is the long pond session for evermore😭)
Also illicit affairs is my fav from folklore 🥺
I can wait to you get to "Right were you left me" on Evermore, it is a track bonus and is a masterpiece
I am loving this Taylor Marathon!

Lyrically my favorite song on this album. And the bridge kills me every time!
Agreed
(You could've said it kills you a million times, but ok)
My favorite song from the album thiss song is so good its a grower and the bridge on this song is everything. ♡
I complete agree with you about some songs like this one feeling too short because you get lost in it. This one of my favorites, just the guitar is enough to take me somewhere else.
The guitar picking layers are magical
Taylor's songs is kinda like a dictionary 😍
I appreciate her making this, for the ones that made a mistake, and the guilt and shame and sadness that comes with it.
My favorite song😩😩
One of my favorite from the album.
this is the song that i've been waiting for you to react!!!

The best thing is this is available on youtube 😂❤️❤️

I'm sorry, but could you please tell me what is "innuendos"?

I love all the songs on this album. But I really like the second half of this album, the emotions are so deep. Can't wait for my favorite song Peace.
Yes, justice for Peace! It is criminally underrated.
As someone who has been in an "illicit affair" in past. this song cuts deep
Love your reactions, so spot on! :)
i love illicit affairs and invisible string so much (both with an i just like i fell for cruel summer and cornelia street on lover, or champagne problems and cowboy like me and closure on evermore, i might have a pattern) omg i always love your reactions and interpretations and how you pay attention to the lyrics, i can't wait for mooore taylor swift suffi's version

Exactly, when I first heard "illicit affairs" I understood what it was about, but there's some English speakers that didn't. It's quite curious 🤔
Same with exile for me. I was shocked how so many people did not know about it
Yeah.... I can say the same about Portugues
I was just thinking about it, how funny it is that literally anyone in Brazil would understand those words, even if they knew nothing of English
can't they originate in Spanish? Or a previous language to Spanish?
@@jankova0013 yes, they have a Latin root, and like most adjectives they came to English by way of French.
One of my favorites from this album. Enjoyed the reaction!
At first i didn't get illicit affairs as well ....but now its a drug ☺️
We are having Taylor marathon yay✌✌✌✌🔥
It amuses me how many people I’ve seen reacting to this song don’t know what “illicit” means, mainly since English is not my first language
This song 🔥🔥
Fabulous song
This Song can crush you. It's very painful and sad 😔
Mercurial simply means it is likened to the unstable nature of the chemical mercury. Mercury is very unstable and volatile.
This song is written in a way that the side chick is talking about herself. That’s why the last part of the bridge sounded heavier because it’s the “revelation” part.

"A DWINDLING MERCURIAL HIGH"
ayyy 7:33 appreciate the slip of an accent!

'Tolerate it' will be from the perspective of the gf who's being cheated on
Keep a dictionary next to you, especially for "the lakes".
Did you post this on Patreon or are you going to? I can’t find it 🥴
I don't know why but i always think the girl in this song is having an affair with the husband in tolerate it.
Wait what about "the lakes"??
I must say, I keep getting shocked about how many people didn't know the meaning of illicit or clandestine. English isn't my mother language and I knew these words, so I was really surprised. It is a great song and it is not straight forward and being straight forward is not a negative either.
Can you react to just give me a reason by pink
Left and right reaction when????😔😔😔😔
Imagine dragons new album is out.. mercury act 2.. give it a listenn
The sympathy she gained is towards "the other woman" not towards the partner that is cheating.
I'll make the video if your in it
