"its been so long but if you ever think you got it wrong im right where you left me" is the most down bad, depressing lyric ever. after everything the ex put them thru theyre still holding out hope that theyll regret their decision and come back to them. shes crazy for that lmao
@@ZosiaDabrowski dont feel bad about it. i know it could very well happen to me or anyone lol. if taylor wrote about it than its probably more common than you think!
I'm sure you've got a wife out there, kids and Christmas but I'm unaware cause I'm right where you left me - HOW DID SHE WRITE THIS?! And make it a BONUS TRACK?! The greatest song of her discography.
when i heard this song i couldn't BELIEVE that it wasn't on the standard version of the album. it's so fucking good. so sad yet so catchy and "happy" sounding. the lyric "if our love died young i can't bear witness" breaks me in half
'Pages turn and stick to each other' Pages are stories, the turn of the pages represents time passing and new chapters beginning. While pages sticking to each other illustrate how all aspects of the narrator’s life is on halt while others around her moved on to a new chapter.
"Pages turn, pages stick together.." For me, it means buying a new book and excited to read it, but after reading it, you leave it on the shelf and never going back to it, so the pages remain stuck together... This was my favorite line of the song cause WOW! She's describing another thing in life that just goes on... I love to read. So once i read a new book, I hardly go back to that same book. Just moving on to the next book. Taylor's lyricism is beyond mind-blowing. 🤯❤
definitely good enough to be on main album but also love the two bonus tracks being 2 alternate endings for her journey. right where you left me is her stuck in the restaurant, in the pain and the past whereas it’s time to go (the other bonus track) starts with her leaving a restaurant, deciding to move on from the pain and leave it behind
To me, there is no greater songwriter, alive or dead. The ease with which she changes styles, the thought and detail that go into her lyrics, her vocal dexterity, the emotions she puts out there, the ballads that tear your heart out, the songs you need to dance to, and everything in between, ALL full of feels, in one way or another. And we're talking about 16 years of this!! She is unmatched, peerless. This song, on the surface, could be overlooked, but when you listen closely, as you did, it's devastatingly sad. How many people you hear of that say, "yeah, I was engaged once, never found anyone again after that". Great reaction, can't wait to hear more.
i have to agree. before i would’ve called that a dramatic statement, and many still do, but they fail to offer me better options. she’s brilliantly unmatched
The power in the pacing matching the manic energy of the character she’s singing about, I love it. Not only do the lyrics paint a clear picture, the tempo/musical composition- it really makes you feel like you’re listening to someone who’s been made delusional by shock, denial, and heartbreak, unable to accept reality. The way the lyrics & rhythm keep circling and cycling around, just like the event that’s kept her locked in this moment of trauma. So clever, the parts like ‘you left me, you left me (NO!) and ‘I’m sure you’ve got a wife, kids and Xmas… it’s been so long, and if you ever think you got it wrong I’m right where, You left me…’. So good. An oof but poignantly beautiful.
At one point I loved this song so much I considered it to be my favourite song of hers, off of evermore at least. I love the vivid picture, how she creates it with each new detail. She expressed the desperation and resentment in those lyrics so well and even though I can't relate to the story, I just relate to this feeling, especially the lyric "you left me no choice but to stay here forever". I think about my parents when I listen to this song. It's very wrong actually but it's exactly what you want to do in order to avoid responsibility. We blame others for things we should control in our life all the time. It's so true. Thank you for the reaction ♥️
The tempo literally depicts the feeling of the stress and anxiety that is accompanied with being with being in the exact moment of shock when he breaks up with her.
I have never heard that song until you released this video.. and since then I has been playing nonstop (last year it was the top song on Spotify) and for sure it is my favorite Taylor track!
This is my favorite Taylor Swift song of all time. Always on my workout playlist and one of the first ones I like to belt out in the car when I'm stuck in traffic. Gets stuck in my head at least weekly and I'm never mad. Loved your reaction to it! I was shocked this was a bonus track the first time I heard it too!
I think there’s so many different reasons to the “pages turn and stick to each other” line but I think part of it is just explaining time passing. The first verse is all covering how much time has passed since they broke up. An old book often has pages that are stuck together for various reasons. “strangers get born and strangers get buried” also just explains time passing among the other lines with the same meaning. I do think that each line has another more specific meaning as well, separate from time passing
So glad to see this detailed appreciation of the supreme Right Where You Left Me. You mentioned how she didn't even give you a chance to pause, and that hits on the pacing and rhythm that that I immediately noticed on this and also WIllow (every time a verse starts on that, the movement feels like, "and GO!"). They all have this sense that the songs are waves that just keep rolling. In this song, one of the instrumentals actually sounds similar to a train chugging alone, which fits this sense perfectly. Some of her best lyrical and vocal work. 75 out of 10, no notes.
Oh God, I've been waiting for you to get to this song since you started the Evermore album! And I'm so happy you finally got to it. I love your videos(Especially TS13 ones.)
The ticking sound that starts after the bridge reminds me of a big grandfather clock, hinting yet again about someone being stuck in time whilst her partners life is ticking on/continuing (wife, kids and Christmas).
I think you’re spot on about pages sticking together. I’ve always interpreted that line as grudges we hold onto. You cannot possibly move forward unless you let those go and take in the whole story, good and bad.
SO happy to see you react to this. I knew you'd love it. Her bonus songs are some of my all-time favorites. If you haven't reacted to The Lakes yet, you so should! She does it in the Long Pond sessions.
The only reason this is a bonus song is that she wrote it last and there wasn't enough time to finish the track before the whole album was supposed to be finished and so it had to make it onto the deluxe
This is my current theory, that I don't want to forget in the midst of my constantly fleeting thoughts... - this song could possibly be about the moment she was told that Scott was selling her masters to Scooter.. the more I read the lyrics, the less I'm doubting myself on this; there are many phrases that could work in tandem with the relationship perspective she sings about.. "You told me that you met someone" was the line that triggered this though process for me though. In my opinion, this song as well as Closure are about Scott, and the chaotic sound of both songs represents the messiness of this whole situation!
I think pages sticking here refers literally to pages sticking each other. I have seen my fathers really old books like 25-30 years old. The pages turn brownish rusty and literally stick to each other due to moisture and not opening the book for so long. Maybe its just an analogy for showing how long she's stayed there that pages started to stick each other.
Taylor never scrimps on bonus tracks, ever. Wait till you here the extra 7 songs on 3am version of Midnights (they are better than album IMHO). Also, DISCLAIMER: please, please listen to Bigger Than the Whole Sky PRIVATELY, not on camera. That song will either be very cathartic or wreck you completely- no in between, especially give what you guys have just been thru.
I am about half way through the Midnights album 3am edition over on patreon for those who have been asking
Please skip Bigger then the whole sky, after what you have been through.
I truly suggest skipping Bigger Than The Whole Sky
Can you put them on here 😢

Her best song ever
pages of old books tend to stick together so to me that lyric (pages turn and stick to each other) is about time passing.
Oddly enough someone did break up with me in a restaurant but I don't think about that when listening to this? It's just a great song regardless.

You should look up what “hair pin drop” means. She has said it on two songs now. Very important to understanding the full spectrum of the lyrics.
