Ok! believe it or not all the time I have been turning I have never been asked to make a Xmas tree ornament. At 5.30pm I am just about to finish work after an eleven and half hour shift and a friend from the factory nextdoor walks in and says "Can you make Christmas trees for an ornament?" I said watch me. So I put my overalls back on, placed the phone on the 2"x2" and turned one for the very first time straight off the cuff.

I'm 61 and have been a carpenter/woodworker all of my life. I just bought my first lathe last year and and have been inspired by you and how easy you make it look. Watching your videos has helped me to pick up the skew again and give it another chance, I had kinda been letting the carbide cutters be my first choice since they were much easier to use, but the skew seems to make a cleaner and smoother cut. Keep the videos coming

My family members are all getting a tree ornament for Christmas! I have a bunch of cottonwood branches 2” + that will be perfect for them!! Hand wood turning is when you hold hand tools in your hands and turn the wood. Machine turning is when you press the buttons on a machine and the machine does the work.
Are you just being pedantic or genuine as hand woodturning is a very widely used and understood term. As for the analogy of breathing compare it to breathing for your self or being on a life support machine where a machine breaths for you.

This lathe also runs with a loose flat belt that would slip if anything happened. Which has never happened in 39years. But it is advisable to never wear loose sleeves, clothing, rings, jewellery long hair etc.
