  • How to wire/ connect/ install a one way light switch.
    In this video I show you the correct way to install a 1 way light switch,. Whilst the 1 way switch is the simplest switch you can connect there is still a right and wrong way to do it, and in this video I show you the recommended way to install the switch.
    This video is suitable for any able DIYer or apprentice looking for the best practice and complying with the IET regulations on the correct installation (wiring) of a light switch in a domestic environment.
    If you are in any doubt about how to anything electrical then please don’t try as it can cause death, so please do employ a qualified and registered electrician. The video assumes electrical knowledge including safe isolation of the circuit being worked on.
    Well I hope that was useful and see you on the next one.
    If you like the video please like, comment and subscribe, and for you thumbs downers leave a comment too about what you don’t like about the video so I can try and make them better in future.

    You didn't show us what wires you put in what holes. Move the camera.Ahhhh

      you have to watch it all and pay attention.. especially at around 2:44

    Why didn't you show us which wire you were putting in where? You held the socket so that we couldn't see the wiring side What a useless waste of my time. You talked as if you assumed we knew what you're talking about .If this had been the case I wouldn't have any need to be looking /watching your video!

      But please do remember that electricity can kill, if you are in any doubt please get a qualified elcetrician to do the work for you.

      I think the original comment was after the same thing as me, which side of the switch were the wires put in. The screws are really stiff on the switch I've got (same model as you have in this video) and I want to know exactly where I place the wires before doing the screws up without stripping the screw. I hope that makes sense.
      We cannot see this in the video as its blocked from view, and a wiring diagram doesn't help with this part of the task. Many thanks!

    U have explained this very well however I did not get a clear understanding of how the live cable enters the light switch and how does the then be transferred to the bulb

    The writing on back of switch tells you it up correct way if using com and L1 if using com and L2 have writing upside down

    the screw on my switch doesn't go down far enough to hold the wire....

    • @MPCpropertydevelopments
      @MPCpropertydevelopments  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like the switch needs replacing... assuming you are using propper sized wire...

      If it's an mk switch, I discovered the screws stop and seem to be fully tightened, but if you keep turning them, they will go slack again and tighten on the wires.

    So on old wiring red and black it doesn’t matter which one goes into the com does it on a one way switch ?

    • @MPCpropertydevelopments
      @MPCpropertydevelopments  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No it doesn't Really matter which way around the wires are.... although it will alter which switch position the switch will be for on and off but you can spin the whole switch plate around like I show you in the video if it is not right.

    Is there a swtich that you connect(in my case a positive and negative) in and then using the switch to change the output between two different sets of positives and negatives?(position one = connected to positve and negative, position two = connected to a different set of positive and negative)

    • @MPCpropertydevelopments
      @MPCpropertydevelopments  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you are doing electronics rather than household electrics… but an intermediate switch would probably do what you want if I understand the question correctly…

      @MPCpropertydevelopments  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      your light switch should have 2 terminals.... so one in each! but if you are in any doubt, please contact an electrician.

    Please could you make a video on feeding cables and how best to carry out that task?

    • @MPCpropertydevelopments
      @MPCpropertydevelopments  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll add to my to do list... but i can give you a tip right now, forget all those fancy cable rods thingys the best tool I've found for pulling cables is the lid off mini trunking... it just has the right stiff to bendyness ratio for pushing under floors etc..

    I can't understand how both cables are live. I thought there was a cable into the switch and then a cable from the switch to the light? Not explained very well at all.

    • @MPCpropertydevelopments
      @MPCpropertydevelopments  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please watch th-cam.com/video/TIa-934lmz0/w-d-xo.html for the lighting circuit design, that may help you understand better.
      Whilst I am sorry that sorry that you didn't understand but these TH-cams are aimed at advanced DIYers and Apprentices, who would have a rudimentary understanding of a basic circuit and what a switch is and does, you must remember that electricity can kill so I’d recommend that you get a professional to help you on this occasion.

    Great video! If you use twin brown and earth then how do you know which one is permanent live and which is switch live, without testing the core? Thanks

    • @MPCpropertydevelopments
      @MPCpropertydevelopments  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could use a tester, but it dosn't really matter which is which, it makes not difference to the switch.... if you want the switch the right way up then twist it around like I show you in the video... 50/50 odds that it will be right!!

      YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO PUT A SMALL AMOUNT OF RED OR BROWN SHEATH ONTO A BLUE WIRE TO LET YOU KNOW WHICH ONE IS A SWITCHING LIVE,OR EVEN USE RED TAPE BUT NEVER LEAVE IT BLANK.
