Hey 2 episodes a week!? We don’t deserve this 😢 . Thank you SA and Connie!
SA is my favorite car channel and deserves way more subsribers. A hidden gem. I never skip an ad in support of SA.
You rock!
Little 3/8" ratchet handles, would be perfect for the rear window cranks. You could use them in 180゚ movements, & the handle would be reversible
you had the same exact idea. hope they see this!
Same thought also, haha! Or just a 3/8 drive socket welded on splined part of crank handle, and cutoff the rest. Can put window up/down with ratchet/impact/etc. when necessary...
Timon & Pumbaa hard at work 😂 Much love and respect to you both ✌🏻
2 episodes a WEEK! hell yeah!
Side note after actually watching the whole video, bring us all the videos! Never apologize!
Have a look at Alfa Romeo sud sprint quarter window handles, they are just round and should clear the cage.
1:22 put a 1/4 inch swivel socket on the window crank, angled stand off bracket and bend the crank handle to match the needed clearance angle zig zag so the turn knob stays straight on the rotation.
The joys of restoring a vintage car. Looking good guys.
Two episodes a week! Woo hoo
For the pillar trim/vent, have a look for vacuum metalizing. It’s a process for chroming plastic parts so there might be somewhere local that can refinish those parts. I had some old plastic BBS center nuts done years ago and it looked great.
I was happy to see the Celica back in the shop, even more happy to see it twice a week!
It's like Xmas in April! Thanks guys!! ❤
This episode absolutely epitomizes the "unseen struggle" of project cars...... awesome stuff!
Fan from Trinidad here. Keep up the great content guys. Can't wait to see Connie rip some vvti.
Big man you getting thru? @bradley
@@mrphiscal yeah man. I ain't publish any videos on my BMW yet. When its running better and i shoot some good content then maybe.
Maybe cut up an old bicycle inner tube to make your door handle gasket?
For the rear window handle crank issue, put a rachet handle on so it doesn't have to spin all the way around 🔧
Helll yea 2 uploads a week lets goo bb u guys are killing it im loving the celica content
Maybe make a window crank out of a ratchet tool? Could be a neat solution..:) great series, I love it!
For the Rear Glass Handle, build a Custom "spacer" that just clears the cage. Easy fix.
Don't underestimate the greatness of those rear windows... I live in south Florida and even without A/C the airflow in these cars with all windows down is great and makes summers not the worst
Good to know! No A/C is a bummer, I am thinking about adding a Vintage Air system eventually, but not this year.
this is such a fun project to follow along on! thank you guys for doing such a fun and thorough job of both restoring and documenting on such a beautiful car
@7:50 that was such gym bro vibes. But @8:05 thanks for not editing out that priceless sound of happy relief
You could modify a ratchet/ ratchet wrench for the rear window cranks..?
Interesting idea. Will take a look at that option.
Custom make some small 1/8 wrachet wrenches for the rear window cranks. Not very restomod, but definitely car themed lol
I've been posting on almost every video "what happened to the Celica", and now watching this videos makes the wish come true.
This is the only 60-70-80-90 car that i would love to have and swap, i'll do it eventually once i figure it out where to save it and where to work on it :)
All that spray on adhesive will let go 100%, its too diluted in a can.. Use the brush on contact adhesive. I had been trimming for over 25 years., Spray on is temporary.
Spray on is highly diluted so it dosnt block the nozels.
Everytime yall drop a video I gotta watch on my TV instead of my PC for that crispy 4k footage
Those door/panel trim parts are nice! This video made me decide to postpone fixing up my rear window area for another few years..
maybe you can turn a small sized ratchet wrench into a window handle for the rear window
There is a process to electro plate those pieces of you can't track down replacements
Really appreciate you posting this, it's great content but also is going to be extremely helpful for anyone taking this on in the future!
Thanks for filming this one guys, need to rebuild my window regulators on mine.
Thailand has a lot of really good replica panel and trim factories for vintage cars now. I almost feel like theyve acquired the old oem dyes and molds for a lot of it.
the hat change threw me off hahahha
You might want to look at some of the US 60s and 70s car window vent cranks. They very are stubby and assuming the interface is roughly the same (clip attachment) then you might find a quick and easy solution to the rear window space issues.
Thanks Chris. I did have a look around online at hotrod window cranks and there are some nice stubby ones out there that would probably fit, just not sure if the spline count and spline diameter will be the same on them as on the Celica. We might just modify the stock ones so that we know they'll fit. Or use vice grips LOL.
@@speedacademydave find a ratchet wrench that fits it and use that
I love the deep dives. It's always insightful. Even if it's for a different project.
I had the same issue with a roll bar and rear window crank handle. I have 3 solutions. 1) convert to power. 2) I kept the stock handle in the glove box or center console and used it in 1/2 to 3/4 turns to lower it and placed a rubber cap over the stud to make it look better when not in use. The third permanent solution was a 64-66 thunderbird vent window crank handle that was only about 2 inches (5cm) long.
Cant wait to see that thing screaming down the track !!! Good job guys .
Put a ratchet mechanism into the handle of the window crank. That would be so trick
My thought too, maybe get a ratchet spanner head to fit in the handle
I just did mine and man it was a pain to do solo even with the great instructions. I got lucky that my bolt in cage didn't interfere.
Good work 👍 I’d use welting tape on the door handles to prevent chaffing on the paint ect. Loving the Connie episodes.
I loved the video as always. It's good to see other people struggle with their builds!
Doing window/door seals is always the worst in the cold. After installing, try to put car in the sun for a bit to "seat" the seals while they are fresh with everything sealed up. Connie is looking great, thanks to a couple dudes that actually care and put forth the work. Good stuff!
FYI, you can make door handle gasket/weather seals out of an old inner tube which will stop water ingress. Which I can guarantee will find its way in even from just washing the car, never mind if it rains.
Love this build!
Need to work on my 65 mustang's window regulators too...not sure I'm up for it watching you two struggle!😂
Digging the music for this episode. Gives me some serious gran turismo vibes. Cheers boys, keep up the progress!
I could watch you build Connie 2 or 3 more times and still be fascinated with it
I’m a Datsun/Nissan Z fan, but I remember those Toyotas and they were sweet cars. One friend had the coupe and one had the hatchback.
At this rate there will be 100 episodes 😅j/k. The joys of restoring a classic car. I'm sure you guys will hit your groove soon and knock this car out! 👍
All good things come God 🙏
Sheesh what a piece of work Connie is going!
I've seen large cylindrical pieces of machined aluminium used as window winders before. Looks cool, is functional, and would clear the cage :)
you should be able to get the window chrome trim re chromed somewhere.
you could also use some thing rubber or adhesive EVA closed cell foam for the door handle gasket. if anything to prevent the paint getting rubbed through.
Ah yes..this fired my ptsd of installing the window regulators on my 510...getting them in wasn't too bad, adjusting them to track right...took so long, then to find if I wind up the driver's window at over 100 kms, cabin pressure/vacuum whatever pulls it outa wack..🤦♂️.
Old cars...gotta love em.
Now the struggle i'm gonna have to go with on my celica for the rear windows....ugh
Putting the rear window in was hard to watch. I was like " I'm so glad it's not me. I'm so glad a camera isn't rolling when I work on my SC300". I had a '77 Celica GT, loved it. The rear windows would work loose, no matter how much tweaking I did to them. Connie could get away with fixed rear windows. Leave all the heavy regulator hardware completely out, shove the glass up tight in the new channel, and some how block it up tight.
It would be a bit of work but if you could convert a ratcheting wrench with a reversing switch into a window handle that would be cool.
Cool idea!
Ha! I was thinking the same thing! Little chrome ratchets would be cool if you could keep them from rattling around.
Japanese cars don't use Phillips screws, they're JIS. Now you can use a regular Phillips head screwdriver, a JIS works much better, JIS screwdriver + JIS screws = no cam out.
Maybe for the cabin vent cover- you can get it 3D scanned & reproduced for higher temp materials & preferred colors?
As someone who has to repair my window regulator a few times, I feel the pain on the rear side windows, oof
Take your time to do it right & share the know how, fellas
Loving this series!
Put a hinge at the base of the window crank so it can swing out and clear the cage? That way you keep the leverage
You can use some butle to seal the handles to the door because there's a strong likelihood it'll let water in there
Being a technician, Silicone Spray will be your best friend for anything rubber. Window channels, installing a new seal it slides in like butter and dries. Radiator, heater core hoses, exhaust hangers. Slides on and dries. I’ve seen people use products like PB Blaster and that’s petroleum based and will degrade rubber over time after contact. SILICONE SPRAY. Even lubricating the window run channels if your window sticks or chatters. It will save you from having to replace a regulator.
We used White Lithium grease spray, which seems to be standard procedure with window rails and sliders.
Weld on a cheap ratchet instead of a crank. You’ll be able to roll up and down with ease and have a cool aesthetic
You can try using old tyre inner tube as gasket for the door handle
For the avoidance of any doubt, after this episode I can irrefutably confirm that I will not be installing a half cage in my ta22! You buys have the patience of saints (on camera at least!)
I like to see the struggle. Let’s me know it’s just not me and my shop. Thanks boyz!
It’d be amazing to fab up a ratcheting crack. Like a ratcheting wrench built in. Probably no way to make it less-noticeable, but it would be a killer mod either way
A big knurled circular knob whould work well in place of the crank. Maybe some OEM seat adjuster knobs would work without any modifications.
Looking good guys
If you take that b-pillar (cabin vent) to get rusty prevention treatment maybe the finish will be good enough?
I am "looking forward" to fitting my windows now ;( Thanks for the pro tips
Good job on the side windows. Mine were such a battle! I’m very happy to be done. Fingers crossed they seal out water. It makes me wonder how they were able to install them on the assembly line where it moves every minute or 2. The headliner installation had me wondering how they efficiently were installed on the assembly line as well.
Love this styling of video!
Slowly, but you guys are making progress! Actually that back vent is made for smoking while driving, cars today are too easy to hotbox!
That rear roller just add a hinge, so u can flip it 180⁰ when it hits the roll cage.
Use a bike tube for your gasket for the door handles
Be pretty cool if you could engineer a small ratcheting spanner with the small black handle from the window winder.
Then you could just ratchet the window up or down without having to go full circle like you would with a winder
Door handle gasket use eva craft foam. it's the same stuff the factory gasket uses.
weld a rachet spanner onto the window regulator. one with a tighten and loosen switch
Connie putting up a fight!
A1 fab work on those door cards PT. 👍🏾. And Dave. Stop selling yourself on TH-cam for car parts. 😂
The rear window winder maybe a 1/4 drive ratchet or a ratchet spanner could be modified in some fashion and the original handle modified to cover it?
This video required a lot of right arrow for me to get thru.
Question. Where the rear window crank handle mounts , can an extension be made for the handle sit further inboard or the handle be bent into an S to clear the roll bar ?
Make an adapter that goes from window spline to 1/4 drive female so you can use a cordless gun or wrench to move the windows. No crank handle needed.
weld an extension into the crank so it sticks past the cage
Turn the window crank into a 3/8 socket and carry a ratchet for a handle 😅
someone should sponsor you a 3d printer- for all the awesome contents you guys created-- - so you can print a rear quater window regulator handle.:P
Love it
Door panels!
Baseball cards lol
No worries!
No, no problem!
I’m old!
Are you going to rust proof the car, since now you have very good access to inner and outer skins of the car?
Yes, we will definitely take the car to Honeyseal for full rust-proofing treatment, though we've also sprayed the underside of all the panels with DEI BoomMat which is kind of like a truck bedliner material, but the more rust prevention the better on a car like this!
New SA shirt design “Will Spoon for Car Parts” 😂
Could a ratcheting wrench with a direction toggle work for the rear window handle?
Is there no kit to convert those windows to electric? Being able to put them all down from the driver's seat on a sunny day would be nice!
What if you made an offset handle that cleared the rollbar, but still gave you the leverage you need to roll the window up/down easily?
I am SO GLAD I never got this far in my Celica days. Might have turned me off modifying cars for good, yikes!
See how good it was for it to go to Canadia? When I get another, and some day I will, those rear windows will come out & never be put back in. Drift missile! 😅
I support this bad decision! 😆
